Have now had this beer on tap and out of the bottle and there's no getting around it. This is a damn fine beer from Coronado Brewing.

On tap at the Drafting Room at Exton.

The beer pours a rich golden peach color with very good head retention and lacing. The nose is gorgeous as well, with peach, apriocot, honey, white pepper and hoppy citrus. Flavors on the palate replicate the nose very well, with the beer displaying a wonderful wash of hoppy bitterness on the finish. It really does an excellent job of cutting and countering the moderate sweetness in this beer, giving the beer an attractive, drying finish. Mouthfeel in this excellent beer is also impressive, and is fairly full with hoppy bitterness everywhere. Drinikability is pretty good, with the relatively high alcohol well disguised.

Just an all around terrific beer from the folks at Coronado. Impressive.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a clear brassy hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured clean esters, candy sugar and a potent herbal hop.

The taste consisted of a clean herbal hop, fresh grainy malt and lingering ester.

The mouthfeel was remarkably clean for the style.

Overall a very tasty and user friendly IPA.

Hazy amber colour with a thin lace of white head. Good retention for the meager amount of foam off the pour. Light malty flavour sits underneath a combination of citrus and resinous hops. Highly resinous bitterness with a citrusy hop flavour. Light sweetness most of the way through, finishing on the dry, resinous side. Medium body and carbonation. Dry, resinous texture. Overall, the hops really overpower the malt base, but it's still a nice beer.

The one thing that usually gets me about BIPAs is the Belgian side of it. Many have too much yeast and biscuity sweetness that overpowers the hops. This one is different.
A cloudy golden pour with a sticky head. Rocky mounds of foam spring up. Lacing is great.
Aroma is crisp hoppiness with undertones of biscuit and coriander. A blend of mint, grapefruit and pear. Floral as well.
Refreshing taste. As the aroma of floral hops still lingers the tongue is hit with a smack of citrus. Grapefruit, juicy. A subtle but strong malt backbone is key here as the hops try to dominate, but are pulled back just at the bite goes deep. Sweet biscuits and light toast come into play at the end. Alcohol is well hidden and warming.
This is a great beer. Very good aroma, flavor, feel and finish. Wish I had more of these!

Always been a fan of the Belgian IPA substyle - Coronado's version is a nice textbook version - citrus hops, honey, yeast, flowers, a little alcohol bite. Paired nicely with a catfish poboy covered in hot sauce. A nice beer - lots of hops, yeast, clove and spice.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 25/3/13

A very slight haze in a golden yellow body, a few tiny bubbles but a large well sustained head leaves a few thick rings of lace followed by random patches, thin film stays to the

S sour apple's stronger then I'd like with some lemon honey and herbal tea, the yeast profiles there but I'm not sure that I should be getting banana, there's some cereal and citrus with some clove and spice, good but not great

T lime and lemon rind with more yeast and even a little pine, faint booze and a peppery spice I wasn't really smelling, less sour apple then the nose and its quite different to my surprise and a little better

M slightly syrupy at first but bubbles fluff it up after its in your mouth, thick with a little heat and a long finish

O it hits the spots but still missing something I can't place but I enjoyed it nonetheless, double speak

I've had some good luck with this brewery and I'll keep paying 10$ to try a bomber but I slightly overpaid for this one

Appearance is clear gold with a small white head leaving light lace.

Smell is earthy, hops and esters, a light sweetness, herbal, light alcohol vapors. A little marshmallow vibe to it.

Taste is similar, it's phenolic, the esters are a little fruiter than the nose. Hops are earthy and herbal, modestly bitter. Something about this is not coming together for me.

Mouthfeel is dry yet slippery, fully carbonated.

Drinkability is OK, it's pretty digestible, and the taste isn't overbearing, but I'm not loving it and wouldn't re-buy.

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, goldenrod coloring with a TON of white, fluffy, foamy head. This one had head coming out of the bottle as soon as I popped the top. Aromas of bread, honey, yeast cake, esters, and some berry highlights. Smells are light, but tasty. Flavors are light and crisp, with a buttery, cracker, and floral blend on the forward tongue, with some more honey rich notes in the backbone. Smooth, light bodied, with a softness throughout. The aftertaste is more of the Belgian yeast strand, with fruity notes and funk. The finish is smooth and clean, with a subtle spice linger.

A: Poured from a bottle to a goblet. Had an amber color and a thick consistency. Some floaties. There was an inch and a half of foamy, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A sweet, fragrant smell of hops, citrus and malt.

T: Tasted of hops, grapefruit, malt and a grassy element in the finish. Hoppier than you might expect for a Belgian IPA, but not overwhelmingly so. Almost closer in character to an American IPA. Still, very flavorful.

M: A highly carbonated beer with a somewhat slick finish. Medium-bodied.

D: This is a well made, drinkable beer.

Sample at Stone. This brew is a clear copper color with a medium and fluffy white head that dissipates slowly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and grass. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with grassy hops, citrus and light malt flavors. Slight spice and yeast are present as well. The finish is hoppy and leaves a mild spice and hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle courtesy of Dunk poured into a pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a small and short-lived white head that recedes to a small ring quickly and leaves almost no lacing.

The aroma has no doubt lost some of its hop character as the sweetness of the malts and light fruit dominate with only a bit citrus in there on top of some healthy Belgian yeast presence.

The taste is also very sweet up front with lots of apricots and pears with strong Belgian yeast characteristics as well. As in the aroma, the hops have died down a good bit in the taste.

The mouthfeel is slick with decent carbonation and leaves lots of sweetness on the palate.

This is a decent and very drinkable Belgian IPA, though I really think it would be better fresh as the hops have faded a bit. As it is, this is a light and fruity sweet take on a Belgian IPA.

On tap at the Coronado Brew Pub.

Poured a medium golden color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, citrus and some grass. Tastes of the same floral hops, citrus, light caramel, and some pine.

Notes from: 12/1/04

I'd like to get a bottle of this to compare to my earlier rating from the Brew Pub.

Pours dark amber with a large, white head.
Very Belgian aroma, very phenolic with some spicy, herbal and grassy hops too alongside a little light malt.
Similar flavours; spicy and herbal hops, spicy Belgian notes, and a very dry finish.
Too much carbonation.

Bottle

Holiday Wine Cellar
Escondido, CA

(I don't typically review the same beer twice; I only do so when my experiences between serving types are vastly different. My experience was much better on tap compared to my bottle of this beer.)

A very dark amber. This beer is nearly brown--and there's so much sediment in the beer that it almost looks like an auburn brown sludge in my glass. Huge chunks of sediment swirl throughout the beer and it looks thick, murky, and heavy. Huge, thick head and lots of lacing, sure, but this beer looks quite unappealing. A completely different experience than my on tap one!

Particularly tangy and spicy yeast character in the nose--far more than I remember in the on tap version. It's so overpowering I can hardly keep my nose on the beer to try and pick out more. That's not to say this beer smells bad, but it's certainly a completely different animal than the version I had previously. There's some citrus elements but the tangy, spicy yeast is all that's easily accessible.

Citrus hops and Belgian yeast character are here, but there's also something unpleasant. This beer is unappealing, and I was looking forward to this bottle all day! I wanted to enjoy this beer, but this I don't enjoy. There's a dish soap and an unappealing tang that has me smacking my lips after each sip wishing it would go away.

Too thick in the mouth, yet acceptable.

I'm not going to finish this beer. I didn't enjoy it at all, and not liking this beer shocked me! I had this on tap and it instantly became my favorite American Belgian IPA. This bottle, however--not good.

A bad bottle, maybe?

Appearance - pours a golden caramel color, two fingers of white, creamy foam above. Nice stick to the lacing as it makes clumpy waves on the glass up top, and full sheets going down. A steady bead off the bottom of the glass makes for a great looking beer, and considerably cloudier with the bottom pour added.

Aroma - initially has a burst of orangy citrus. Some light wood and earthy Belgian yeast as it settles along with subtle alcohol vapor.

Taste - malty, sweet caramel at first, quickly overcome by citrusy, sparkly, prickly hops. Grapefruit, lemon, pine and a warming abv as well. The Belgian yeast makes its way through all that on the aftertaste, impressive. Dry, bitter, boozy finish, even a warm grainy exhale at times. Good beer.

Mouthfeel - creamy, well-carbonated but not interfering. A good sturdy body that keeps up with the beer's profile.

Drinkability - a fine Belgian IPA, a great change of pace for an IPA beer tasting.

Orange-y amber with a soapy head top. Sticks awesomely. Nice carbonation rush from the base of the glass.

Pine and citrus hops with an assertive spiciness grinned the Belgian yeast used. Smells purty good.

Piney and spicy hop overload. Tons of bitterness and a nice hit of warm booze from the first sip. This American version is wacky on the hops. Some bitter orange pith, spruce, coriander, and malt sugar. Great bite at first, and everlasting finish. Not a super familiar Belgian yeast quality; barely a Belgian IPA and more of an American Double IPA. Dangerous to slug back in this tall pint.

Decent feel. Thank heavens for the bubbly scrub, or else I'd have finished this one off by now. Body is an almost-medium. Pretty appropriate.

I'm in love with this beer. It's heady, which is to say that it's a little hot. But, a great aggressive hoppiness and interesting spice character with makes for a delicious spin in a Belgian IPA.

A -Wonderful bright honey, large head, beautiful spider web lacing.

S - Floral, hoppy and fruits.

T - Served warmer than I usually do, very complex flavor. Sweet malts, you do get the Belgium yeast notes, including tropical and banana flavors, then the pine and citrus hops.

M - Thick and creamy mouth, good carbonation, good coating. Personally, I thought the balance was pretty good.

D - Fun to try.
