Also known as Red Roost Al" at the Clam Catcher restaurant in La Jolla, CA.
Mermaid’s Red
The Siren's Calling.
Inspired by the siren song, Mermaid’s Red lures you in with sweet toffee malts and seductive red hue. But don’t be fooled, this hoppy red is dry-hopped with a blend of Pacific Northwest hops for big citrus and pine aroma and a lingering dry finish.

Pours an amber/auburn color from the bottle. Nice and creamy foam. Malty sweet, more caramel malt aroma than hops. This didn't come together for me, unfortunately.

Pine, caramel, orange peel, and oolong tea in the aroma.
Appearance is copper, clear, with light tan head.
Flavor has medium caramel, moderately bitter hops, citrusy pine, coffee-like.Balanced with semi-dry finish.
Interesting fact: it used to be called La Jolla Red, as the recipe is originally from the infamous La Jolla Brewhouse, which Coronado acquired.

Mermaid's Red pours a crystal clear, copper color with a tan one finger head that's tight and fluffy with spotty lacing. The smell is bready malt with a caramel sweetness and a faint hint of fruits with a bit of hops. Taste starts out bready with a caramel sweetness folloed by some stone fruit and an ever so slight hop aftertaste.

Packaged on 3/8/2019; consumed on 5/5/2019 - poured from a 12oz can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.
Dark carnelian body with terra cotta highlights and good clarity supports two fingers of cornsilk tinged dense foam. Thick rocky lacing; superior retention.
C-hops and plenty of specialty malt in the nose with characteristic citrus, pine, and caramel/cracker notes. Woodsy and well balanced aroma - very inviting.
Unapologetically bitter palate entry with a spicy/malty flourish. Cascade indeed takes center stage here, though the malt is never far behind. Some floral and notes as the beer warms - finishing crisp and dry, yet earthy. Potent yet well balanced and integrated.
Medium-bodied, well carbonated, faintly warming.
Reminds me at times of what I used to think of as "Northwest" style IPA, although the malt is of course more assertive here, as you would expect for the style. Excellent if easily overlooked beer from Coronado. Pleasant on its own, but even better paired with food (e.g. a spicy chicken katsu sandwich?).

Smooth and pleasant tasting. Different bottle than posted calling it a Hoppy Red Ale with Malt, piney and citrusy.
Being a malt loving guy didn’t notice any heavy hoppy notes.

Dark amber, almost no foam.
Malty smell, a hint of roasted and dry fruit, then american hop.
Malty taste, caramel, good amount of flavouring and bitterness hop.
Some hazelnut in the aftertaste, a hint of sweet cocoa and caramel.
Then balancig bitterness, citric notes.
