Had on tap at the Fish Market in San Diego.

A: Pours a medium red amber with a medium off-white head, minimal lacing.

S: Nothing overpowering here. Some malt and sweetness from the caramel.

T: Very malts, but felt like this one was missing something, The malts lacked more sweetness or hops to back them up. Almost felt a skunky taste coming from this.

M: Medium-bodied, fairly smooth, has a creaminess to it, medium carbonation.

O: Was very underwhelmed with this. Tried many great beers on my trip to San Diego, this was not one of them though.

Had on tap at Yard House in San Diego.

Beer pours a nice, rich ruby color with about a finger and half or so of white, foamy head. The head lingers throughout.

The beer smells a bit like raisins.

The beer tastes initially very sweet of raisins and figs, followed by a good amount of a hoppy finish.

Slightly thin mouthfeel.

Overall a solid red ale.

glass: nonic

Ruby, brown appearance with a thin bubbly head. Hints of cocoa, lavender, grape, date on the nose. The taste is, light floral hops, brown sugar, cocoa, date, grape, plastic. Finishes with a decent bitterness. Body is light-medium with medium carbonation. Very drinkable. Decent red but tastes too much like an ESB.

Glass - Nonic

A - Cloudy amber colored brew with a sticky looking 2-finger head. Head retention seems to be very good, and I got some nice lacing on my glass.

S - It smells very ESB like to me. Upfront I get lots of fig, plum, and raisin. I also pick up a bit of floral and lemon citrus hop characteristics. Toffee, caramel and brown sugar qualities underneath.

T - Hmm, tastes a little like an ESB as well. I get lots of plum and fig upfront. Rind like hop flavors quickly follow, and it finishes very dry with more plum and lots of brown sugar. Bitterness is moderate for a Red Ale and it lingers a bit.

M - Medium-full bodied with a smooth and chewy feel. Lite-moderate crispness. I actually like the feel of this beer.

O - Well I like the beer but I think it's a little too sweet for me, and it also comes off like an ESB more than a Red Ale. I also didn't like the finishing flavors of the beer too much, it's kind of mineral like to me and un balanced. I'll pass on this one next time, but it's worth a try I'd say.

12oz bottle poured into a wine glass. No date.

Appearance - Hazy medium amber body. Tan-yellow one-finger billowy head with great stick and decent to good retention.

Smell - Slight hay hop. Light and refreshing. Honey sweetness.

Taste - Moderate honey sweetness. Slight spiciness. Mild to moderate hop presence.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Slight chewiness which is partially washed away by slight solvent character.

Overall Drinkability - Great session. Pretty decent tasting beer.

Wow, this is now for me, top tier beer! Maybe the best red ale I've ever had. Poured with a huge, foamy, frothy, fluffy, billowy, light tan head that lasts a long time and great lacing. Color is a clear copper red with lots of small bubble trails. Aroma is malt, caramel, toffee, roast, hint of fruit. Flavor's like nose, but with all of those qualities much more bold and the roasty/dry character adding that perfect quaffing attribute, that for me, is dynamite. Perefct carbonic tang to enter into the mix for a supremely drinkable beer. Excellent body and carbonation. Finish is like flavor and of average length, but leaving the desire for another swallow (not sip). Sure wish I had easy access to this.

Brown red color. Thin tan head with good lacing and retention. Aroma was very malty with some brown sugar and raisin, also a hint of nuttiness. Flavor leans to the sweet side with some traces of toffee, a bit of tea, some nectarine fruity sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and fresh. A good red. The second beer from this brewery. Both respectable. I will try more.

14th Review – from notes
On-tap into pint glass at House of Beer (Orlando, FL)

L: Dark maroon and 0.5 fingernail head.

S: Fruity and sweet with slight hint of malts. Nothing special here.

T: Over-bearing fig and plum taste somewhat balanced by slight bitterness. Not what I was expecting from this red ale; however, it was not bad either.

M: Rough up-front, yet balanced on the back-end. Quite weird, yet unpleasant at the same time.

O: As mentioned previously, not what I was expecting from this beer. Almost drank like a quad with a bit of funk – cannot say that I will seek out to return to this beer.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look - red/coppery in color, maybe a little dark and murky, with about two fingers' worth of frothy light khaki-colored foam that dissipates somewhat slowly.

Smell - fairly hoppy, but at the same time with a pretty strong bite of barley.

Taste and Mouthfeel - hops are pretty prevalent, but the taste is masked by a sweetness to where I'm not able to tell that it's Cascade hops being used. I do feel a little bit of the chocolaty feel in the middle and toward the finish, where there's a little more bitterness felt again from the hops. Texture is pretty well-balanced, leaning just slightly more toward the watery side.

Overall - pretty interesting brew...both good-tasting and interesting to think about.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Slightly hazy amber with two-finger, white head that diminished in a few minutes. Nice lacing.

S: Fruity. Caramel malt. Slightly toasted aroma.

T: Moderate sweetness and a subtle hop bitterness. More spice than bitter though. Sort of toasted malt flavor. Pretty good.

M: Light to medium bodied. Sort of oily, creamy. Not watery. Refreshing. Nice carbonation.

O: A very drinkable red ale that looks nice and is not too bitter. I like the spice.

A - Darker brown/tan/red. Small head and some good lacing.

S - Fresh brew-day malts, caramel, sweet hops mixed with some pine hops. Little bit of raisin/spice but not much.

T - Taste is rich caramel malts, has a great initial burst. Hops come second with a nice bitterness of grapefruit, finishes strong with a bitter after taste. Caramel, grapefruits, and big malt profile. Can't believe this is only 5.7% ... tastes stronger.

M - Nice, goes down easy with some fizzyness going down, first is medium, nice aftertaste!

O - Overall a really good red ale, one of the better ones around. I like the amount of bitterness mixed with a complex maltyness. Tastes stronger than it is, must be the larger amount of hops in the recipe. Almost like a red ipa, as that is what I would call it. THUMBS UP!

Random single from holiday wine cellar, thought I'd give Coronado a swirl.

A: Looks like a mix of iced tea and cola. Reds and browns shine revealing softer tones of yellows and rustic oranges. Off white head of about a finger leaves pan scrambled egg lacing.

S: Mildly sweet toffee and caramel malt. Rustic bread crusts that crack to reveal the cherry inclusions in the breading. Hard red candies throughout, while maintaining an in check sweetness.

T: Rustic bread crusts with a chile sweetness suggestive of chocolatey moles. Deep dark rustic malt flavors that augments the notes in the nose to be tangy and savory. Cherries become chiles, candies to bitter chocolates, and a hop bitterness to give a rustic feel. Malty, but not too sweet. Sweetness similar to sun dried chiles. Cardamom, clove, and banana are in there as well.

M: Medium-full with a decent chocolate sauce feel that thickens the modest carbonation. Wateriness breaks through in spots interrupting the illusion, but consistently thick sauciness. The creamy feel does well with a lightly drying mouth, which really  allows the hop bitterness to shine.

O: I really like the savory chocolate malt flavors in this red. The hop flavor is a bit absent in the front for me, but the middle flavors are superior. Combined with relatively full body makes for a solid drinking beer. Love the rustic bread notes, and nuttiness/savory over sweet. A pleasant surprise from Coronado brewing company.

Appearance: Odd color for a beer. Light amber, almost purple. Some particulates, but overall it's quite clear. There is a thick layer of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Thick tan head, awesome lacing. Impressive retention.

Aroma: Grapes, tomato, lighter malts, mostly pale with some caramel malt. A bit roasty, must be a bit of dark malts as well.

Flavor: Pale and caramel malt. Almost tomato-like aftertaste. Some mild hops, but a strong vegetable taste. A little astringent, and some DMS.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, on the dry side.

Overall Impression:
Kinda regret getting the 22 oz bottle. I got excited when I red the label and it mentioned roasted malts, rich chocolate, caramel and spice. I didn't detect much of this, perhaps it wasn't fresh? The worst part of this was is the aftertaste. It's rough due to the DMS. It's strangely easy to drink, as long as you don't take a long time in between sips. Not the way I want to enjoy a beer though.

A: Amber with crimson hues. two finger frothy head leaves decent amount of lace and nice retention.

S: Spicey, mildly piney hops with sweet grapefruit and orange mixed in. Nice mix.

T: The smell is the strong point as the taste, though good, lets you down after that aroma. Lots of hops up front with complex lemon/orange with pine mixed in finish.

M: Medium to high carbonation. Medium bodied.

Overall: I think the aroma is under rated for this beer and the taste is excellent.
