Coronado Islander IPA.

First beer out of this brewery. Not much else to say, so let's get started.

Look - Pours a sunset orange with a two finger well retained white head. Carbonation appears to be on low. Thus far this is a very attractive beer, so let's see how the lacing holds up. After finishing the beer, the lacing stuck around pretty well on half the glass. 4.5.

Smell - Highly tropical nose. Pineapple juice and a touch of grapefruit juice. Banana esters and a bit malty. The nose maybe be tropical, but it isn't big and it doesn't punch you in the face like you would hope. But we're still off to a good start. 4.

Taste - Pineapple swaps out for mango on the palate. Remains quite juicy with an ending of light malts. The flavor isn't overly pronounced sad to say. This would be a tasty all day drinker. Grapefruit juice is there along with the mango at about a 65/35 split. 4.

Feel - The body is medium and creamy with a moderate level of carbonation. The body is very juicy as it lingers. 4.25.

Overall - While this is certainly a good beer that I would have again, the flavors simply lacked the heavy punch that would have made this one a killer. They have all the makings, they just need to turn the flavor profile from a six to an eleven. 4. (1,262 characters)

I bought a bottle of Islander IPA is a bottle shop. Poured in to a tulip.

Pours a bright gold color, clear but for some chill haze, with a modest white head.

Smell is a strong sweet pine aroma.

Taste is a lot sweeter than the smell, with citrus flavors, pink grapefruit and lemons. No malt presence to speak of.

Mouthfeel is clean with a dry bitter aftertaste.

Overall a very good IPA. Clean, clear and crisp with a bit of a citrus bite. I would have this again. (475 characters)

A- Pours a nice orange color with a finger of head that fades into a light foam on top like very lightly whipped eggwhite. It's a pretty beer.

S- Inviting and tropical fruity. Pineapple, mango, sweet pine needles.

T- Lime, lemon, pineapple. Overall a lot of fruity hops. Some bitterness but not a ton. It's nice.

M- Fairly light for how alcoholic it is. More sweet than bitter.

O- I'm enjoying this. It's different as an IPA without being foreign or wierd. Would be very good on a warm summer day, maybe even for the beach. (527 characters)

12 oz bottle. Pours clear yellow gold with a big meringue white head that retains well and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is a little subdued - sweet crystal malts with fruit and piney hops.

The flavor is sweet malts with citrus and tropical fruit and some resiny piney floral hops with good bitterness although a bit chalky. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice fruity resiny IPA. (431 characters)

My local grocer just began stocking this beer. The date stamped on the bottled suggests it's still good for another month. Poured right from the fridge into my pint glass.

L: Pours a very clear golden straw color with about a half-inch of eggshell head that falls fairly quickly to a film but leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Very slight visible carbonation.

S: Citrus/grapefruit and grassy hop notes in the nose, along with some cracker malt. Just a suggestion of pineapple and stone fruit there, as well. Not a very assertive bouquet.

T: Sweet caramel malt flavors at the outset accompanied almost immediately by grapefruit hop notes. There's a bit of herbal/floral and pine hop flavor that develops in the middle and carries into the back. The back end isn't completely overpowered by the hops--there's some definite caramel malt coming through there--but it has a decidedly bitter grapefruit hop flavor at the close.

F: On the lighter side of medium-bodied, somewhat tart and zesty, and quite clean-finishing--there's no syrupy quality to this one. It doesn't register as flat, despite the lack of visible carbonation, though it does feel that it could use a little more effervescence.

O: This is a very nice IPA: nothing world-changing, but it certainly tastes good and drinks very easy. I would probably put this right up there with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as a highly drinkable and steady hoppy beer choice. I will return to this one. (1,450 characters)

A wonderful west Coast IPA. If you enjoy your hops this is a beer for you bursting with citrus overtones with a wonderful bitter piney aftertaste. It is a very drinkable beer. (175 characters)

Very good West Coast IPA. Pours a golden/orange color into a pint glass. Medium size white headwith good retention and thick bands of lacing. Nice aroma of citrus hops. Tastes very good. Citrus hops, right amount of bitterness and no alcohol tastae.
Mouthfeel is crisp and rich. Bitterness is just right and goes down very easy. An excellent IPA!!! (351 characters)

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

My first offering from this California brewery, and, of course, it's an IPA. What imagination. Anyway, this stuff pours a clear amber topped by a finger of dirty white foam. The nose comprises buttery toffee, grapefruit zest, and a smattering of flowers. The taste goes sharply for the fruit, partnered with some mild pine, then allows some meek caramel-y biscuit to occasionally leak through when no one's looking. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a decent IPA, nothing taste bud-changing or anything, but something better than many debut stable IPAs that pass through these parts. (678 characters)

It is a solid beer. A good combination of bitter and hops that has a nice finish. I would suggest and drink again. Not quite a 9/10 but my expectations are high. (161 characters)

Pours a lightly hazy orange with a nice billowing head of creamy white foam, that leaves behind excellent delicate lacing in the glass.

Aroma is fairly subdued, the pungent Columbus are noticeable in the mix though. Caramel malt sweetness, a light grassy skunk.

Taste is pretty clean, malty with a somewhat bitter aftertaste. Grass, cantaloupe, dandelion greens. Light bodied and fairly drinkable. Hints of dank greenery, but again slightly faded. This stuff is new to the market with no dates, so I have to assume it's fairly fresh.

Paired very well with Hooks 7-year aged cheddar, thanks Jay! (600 characters)

Hop bomb. This is a bold ipa that doesn't take hops lightly. Minimal head, but the aroma hits you from a considerable distance. A west coast ipa for sure, in the vein of a Lagunitas or Stone offering in terms of the hop bias. Carbonation is minimal in appearance but more apparent in the mouthfeel. (298 characters)

Poured a beautiful orange-gold hue with a faint haze. The foamy, white head slowly dissipated, leaving some fancy lacing. As far as freshness, the bottle had a date stamped at the bottom. I am not sure if this is a "bottled on" or a "drink by" date; if the latter, it is almost two months past its prime.

The citrusy aroma is typical of the style while the flavor profile is strongly bittersweet, tropical fruit with some lingering marmalade and citrus; not much piney influence which is fine by me. The grapefruit flavor is not as prominent as other IPAs I have tried.

The body is rather light and the flavor profile is short-lived on the palate; just enough carbonation to keep it refreshing.

This is a very mild and quaffable IPA for 7.0 % ABV, but aren't they all? They should really say what the date means on the bottle. Worth seeking out but costly, at least down here in the Florida panhandle. (912 characters)

Pours a hazy orangey gold with a thin white head that leaves the scene very quickly and leaves a little sticky lacing. The aroma has some nice lighter fruit notes (thinking pineapple). The taste is a little anemic, with just some nondescript hops and malt flavors. The body has a nice weight and a crisp finish. (311 characters)

Poured into a Double Barley soda-can shaped glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Citrusy hop aroma with some soily yeast tones and minimal malt backing.

T- Smooth hop flavor with mild bitterness. Slight suggestions of tropical fruit. Alcohol is decently masked.

M- A bit sharp from the hops with medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- A good IPA to offer someone as they're becoming accustomed to a higher level of hop content. Easy to drink with a subtle bitterness but it still has plenty of flavor. (741 characters)

Pours a rich golden hue, slight haze with a big white head. Smells piney, spicy and floral. Spicy, piney and resinous up front with moderate carbonation, fades to nice floral taste. Excellent lacking all the way down the glass. Medium body. Aftertaste piney on the tongue and a spiciness lingers in the throat. Heavy caramel notes emerge as it warms up. Grapefruit rind/pith on the tinge in the aftertaste. (406 characters)

Not great head retention or body feel. Kinda straw/yellow colour, with a real lack of carbonation. I couldn't tell the age, but I'm guessing it's an older bottle but the mediocre flavour and lacklustre finish (208 characters)

Poured a straw color from the bottle in to the shaker pint glass. 1 finger white head that dissipated quickly. Light aroma of citrus. Taste was also light with pine resin at the front and citrus notes underneath. Finish was an unpleasant type of bitterness with some chemical tastes. Not enjoyable. (298 characters)

L - Good, but cloudier than expected. Lace is very good. Nice head. Lasts a good bit.
S - Good, smell hints of coriander and nice hop aroma with a citrus element.
T - Has a bite that lingers but more pleasant than others out there e.g. Stone IPA. Also, back end is not as pleasant as the taste, but decent.
F - Very good, but a bit too much carbonation in my opinion. Good malt to hop balance.
O - Really a solid beer and I used to drink it a lot. I think this won a gold at world beer cup. Good for them, but there are others I prefer. (538 characters)

This is a really good beer, but it doesn't compete with many of the other standard IPAs that I would score in the 4-5 range.

Pours a beautiful golden color. Very clear. Nice, thick one-finger head on aggressive pour.

Aroma is your classic citrus/pine west-coast American IPA aroma. That said, the citrus in faint and doesn't hit your senses the way some IPAs do.

The taste is, again, very light. It is not as light as a session-able IPA. Nothing like Lagunitas DayTime or Founder's All Day IPA. Not that light. It's just a little lighter than I prefer my standard IPAs to be. Citrus flavors. Bitter back end. A bit bland. I would have liked the citrus to be more pronounced: some grapefruit or pineapple to balance out the biscuity bitterness.

The mouth feel is okay. About standard.

Overall, this is a good standard IPA. Would I seek this out? No, not really. Would I drink it is I was at a friends and that's what they had in their fridge? Absolutely, and I would enjoy them. This would be a great beer for a hot day when something heavier would be too much. (1,070 characters)

Coronado islander served in a bottle! Pours a darkish copper and instantly smells of piney bitterness. Defies the west coast style IPA paradigm here with english style heavy malting and minimal flowery aroma. Very bitter, medium bodied with harsh biting carbonation, and a nutty overall theme. Among the sea of IPAs saturated in the CA market, this almost reminds me of a mediocre rendition of a Drakes IPA. The 7% alcohol is also very noticeable here and somehow combines with the malt character to give a punch in the face. Not my personal favorite but It's probably good enough for some to enjoy. (599 characters)
