Islander IPA is a blend of honey and apricot tones (and has the kind of clarity you'd get putting actual honey and apricot together through a blender). Despite the beer's natural haze it has more than enough shine to fit the 'tropic island' motif. Indeed, it's entirely clear skies - there's not even a bubble, much less a puffy cloud of white foam.

A hop bill comprised of the three C's (Columbus, Chinook, Centennial) results in three P's: pink grapefruit, peach, and passionfruit. These citric and tropical fruit flavours are laced throughout the beer, from first sniff to final sip, but are appreciated most in the bouquet.

On the palate they have to compete a little more with very toasty, light-coloured maltiness and the biscuity, bready flavours that imparts. Don't let the floral and fruity ambrosia fool you - this graininess can hold its own. It's hefty. But ultimately it is the hops that win out; the finish tastes strongly of melon and orange, with just a hint of pine.

If not for a pretty appreciable 75 IBUs and a not-so-hard-believe 7% alcohol, this has enough rose-like floralness and refreshing citrus fruitiness that it would have very broad appeal, especially in hot weather. Alas, it's not something for casual drinkers. Still, for my tastes, its lemony tang and crispy malts make it a very refreshing beer indeed.

Well done American IPAs can transport you to another place - typically somewhere tropical. And Islander IPA certainly has the citrusy hoppiness needed to "evoke imagery of swaying palms and sun-kissed shores". That being said, these visions might not be vivid enough to satisfy diehard hop-heads, but I sure felt like I got a nice vacation out of it.

Not sure why people rated this beer so low. I know better. On nice warm day in So. Cal this has the best balance of taste and IBU. Hoppy the clown it's not, but it's so good, no kidding. I go to the local craft brewer that have great beer, The Institutional brewery in Camarillo, Surf and Anacapa breweries in Ventura, but sometimes I need a quick pick 6. The Islander is a great choice without compromise. IMHO

Served in a large snifter at the Union Brewhouse in Weymouth.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale orange color with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Resiny pine, citrus, tropical, floral, grassy, caramel, and some toasted malts.

Taste: Tropical, pine, and citrus with some caramel and toasted malts. Some bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied, tingly bitterness, a little chewy, and medium carbonation.

Overall: It's good to ser their stuff here in Massachusetts. Will be enjoying more in the near future. Pretty solid and enjoyable.

Copper colored beer with great clarity. A minuscule layer of white head is on top. light Brussels lacing Intense pine hop aroma greats my nose. I get a strong burst of pine hops flavor at the front of the palate. There seems to be bit of an imbalance here as I don't get much malt coming to back it up. Mouth is moderately carbonated and there's a lot of bitterness pricking the tongue.

Poured from a bottle, light copper color & large white bubbly head. Aroma is terrible, musty and funky. Smells more Belgium then Cali. Taste is about the same, bitter with no fruit or spice. Decent carbonation and smoothness but overall this is the worst IPA i've tried in a while. This brewery is new to my area and came in with a bit of hype, I tried the "Idiot" the other day and thought it was decent at best. After this purchase i'm done with Coronado. Pissed their are 5 more in the fridge.

Yellow/gold and hazy with a short whitish cap of fine bubbles. Lots of lacing, good head retention for what's there. Sweet, tropical fruitiness, mango and pineapple, with some citrus and faint malt. Lots of hop character without being sharp. Same in the flavour -- soft hoppiness abounds, without the harshness that sometimes creeps in. Sturdy bitterness with more tropical and citrus fruits, mild maltiness. Medium body, moderate carbonation, decent texture. I enjoyed it. A solid West Coast IPA.
