had this on tap at hamilton's tavern in sd. a red or imperial/double red?
a -- nice full red color, a little murky with some sediment/tannins.
s -- beautiful smell, a bit nutty, certainly hoppy, with burnt qualities.
t -- wow. one of the best reds i've ever tried. very, very bitter, aggressively hopped, and balanced out with a toasty malt flavor that brings it all back home. i also taste (and smell) some kind of cold-cut/meaty quality in there somewhere.
reminds me a bit of stone oaked arrogant bastard, some similar notes in taste and smell.
m -- full and chewy.
d -- very drinkable. alchohol notes were subdued, not overly hopped... just a fantastic beer.

Geez, only one other review of this beer? I wish I'd made better notes now. Tasted on tap at Downtown Johnny Brown's, San Diego...
A: Slightly hazy, dark deep-copper body with a red cast beneath a khaki head that holds well and leaves wide streaks and big spots of lace about the glass.
S: Malty and caramelish with a subtly roasty edge. Hoppy - minty/piney.
T: Deeply caramelish with a bit of a burnt sugar and toast edge. Hoppy - mint/soft pine, not citrus. Bold bitterness. Finishes dry with lingering bitterness and hop.
M: Medium-full bodied. Median carbonation. Gently bristling on the tongue.
D: A solid, full AMP hop ale. Balanced between firm malt and solid bitterness with lots of hops mashed in-between. The alcohol never shows, and it's not overly done. Drinkable. I'd easily go for two in a row. Kudos on this one!
