Thanks to kyle2k10 for this bottle with a great name. When my daughter asked what we were drinking I said “Stupid Stout” & she said “Why, does it suck?” Out of the mouths of babes. 22 oz. screen-printed bottle split with my wife.

The pour is appropriately dark-sider & would look good as a Depeche Mode album cover. Very low carbonation to the eye. Nose is full & rich, great roast twined around a vine of chocolate. I like the preview.

Stupid Stout should be re-packaged as Raisin Stout. First sip has a solid core of Raisin Bran Crunch without the bran & crunch. Liquefied raisins ambush the senses, slaughtering the roast & chocolate that can barely be groped underneath. Bit of licorice comes through. Half a bomber is more than I could readily stomach, but man up, max12! This gotta go down.

Weird & not very appealing, too much raisin & not enough of that beautiful nose comes through in the taste. I heard it through the grapevine that this is a mediocre beer. Shrug.

Big viscous brew pours thick and pitch black in color, large texture mocha tan head swells up above the rim of my chalice. Fine speckled lacing coats the glass evenly as the foam fades down.

Aroma dark chocolate, soy sauce notes, intense roasted malt profile creamy notes are in there as well...evident alcohol but not booze ridden. Definite roasted coffee qualities not sure if there's any coffee but it smells like coffee! Hints of anise arise as the beer warms up a bit!

Flavor creamy chocolate notes hints of caramel roasted malt and coffee notes acrid dark roasted malts blend really well, slight umami soy sauce characteristic is definitely there. Drinks really smooth, sweet chocolate encompasses the palate finishing like a dessert beer.

Mouthfeel is full bodied able to chew on this beer, big ol' imperial stout. Really goes down smooth across the palate, high calories substantial beer here...really good offering from Coronado excellent silky smooth textures and even carbonation.

Overall, impressive beer from start to finish very good stuff, world class imperial stout from San Diego imagine that!

650ml bottle. I enjoyed this brewery's offerings while on honeymoon in Hawaii last year, so it's weirdly cool to now see it in Alberta. Thanks be to the State of California for its warnings on the label - I shall endeavor to keep my very pregnant wife from licking this vessel. Whew.

This beer pours a dark, brown-tinted void, with very slight basal cola highlights, and three fingers of densely foamy, puffy, bubbly Nesquick brown head, which leaves some rather attractive wild honeycomb lace around the glass as it gently recedes.

It smells of sugary black licorice, roasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa, concentrated tropical fruit chewing gum, light nutty notes, somewhat bitter leafy, earthy hops, and a burgeoning, though mostly restrained alcohol warming. The taste is lightly toasted caramel/toffee malt, solid medium baker's chocolate, earthy, chalky licorice strands, sweet orange and muddled tropical fruit, indeterminately bitter hops, and an herbal liqueur sniffing about.

The bubbles are adequate, with a piqued perkiness here and there, the body just on the low side of medium weight, especially for the style, and smooth enough, I suppose, as the zingy hops and alcohol take their veritable pound of flesh. It finishes on the sweet side, with a hefty hop essence that might take issue with that proclamation, but it is so - the chocolate, caramel and licorice (and booze, don't forget the booze!) just don't lie, baby.

An aptly named, if pithily so, big stout if there ever was one. It's a little one-sided (ok, two-sided, if you count the ABV), but it also does well enough to keep the beefy ABV in check, and promote the chocolate and anise notes in lieu. Large, yes, and imposing, but with a sidestep from the normal, which may very well be the antithesis of 'stupid'.

on tap at churchill pub. Big roasted aroma and taste, coffee and chocolate. Balanced but just fair for the style. Black bodied, a small amount of head. Medium mouthfeel, Expect bigger bodied for the style. not that complex or tasty. Drinkable is alright. A tad boozy.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a medium khaki head. Medium collar.

Smell - Slightly fruity. Caramel and some dark fruits. Maybe some cherry.

Taste - Fruity. Licorice and cherry. Coffee roasted malts. Nutty in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Too fruity for my tastes.

22 ounce bomber served into a wine glass. Stupid pours black with just a hint of ruby around the edges in the light. Mocha cap offers good retention and lace

Aroma of deep roasted malts, chocolate and coffee and a background hint of dark cherry/caramel. Dark fruit and chocolate carry to the taste, bit jammy on the finish with a nice depth to the malt character throughout. Touch of alcohol on the aroma at times but not so much on the taste, nicely balanced yet not too sweet or too roasty either. Offers a good feel and finish. Right on style and drinkable without any overbearing tweaks in character.

A - solid black, big thumb of brown head that held strong at a finger with complete lacing all around
S - big chocolate and licorice with a little perfume and fairly warm alcohol scent
T - big playoff of chocolate malts vs. perfume hops, hints of allspice, charcoal, leather, and mild pine and alcohol sweet finish
M - big chewy stout feel matched up against some hop bitterness and alcohol dryness
O - it in your face and massive all around, but it manages to work itself into a level of balance that I did not think it could, but in the mutually assured destruction sense of the term .... my kind of stout

Pours a deep ebony color with a small, beige head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of deep roasted notes, almost like burnt coffee.

Tastes of the the deep roasted notes. Espresso and bitter chocolate notes abound with some molasses sweetness to it. An oat nuttiness comes through before leading into a bit of dark cherries. An earthy bitterness is present throughout with a touch of fruity hops coming in. A bit of booze comes on the backend, along with some lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel is full with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is an enjoyable beer, but the inclusion of fruity hops has me scratching my head. They get lost in the mix and it feels like they are wasted here.
