Purchased in the Outer Banks during my beach vacation. Poured into a wine glass. Beautiful bottle.

Tastes like an Irish stout, but is categorized as an American stout. Easy drinking. IMO do not drink this one too cold. Let this one warm up.

A - Pours an opaque dark brown with half a finger head, which dissipates almost immediately. Well carbonated so you call always swirl to bring back the head. 3.25
S - Nice roasted coffee and malt. 3.25
T - Cold coffee, bitter, burnt malt, tinch of sweetness, faint dark chocolate. 3.75
MF - Thin(-), medium light, dry finish. 3.5 (573 characters)

Poured into a Dogfish traditional oversized snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a mostly opaque black color with a 1/4 inch light tan head that retains a bit before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a swirly pattern of sheer surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Nice mocha coffee aroma that's moderately sweet. Like I'm smelling a Dunkin Donuts mocha iced coffee.

T- Flavor doesn't quite live up to the smell. More of a straightforward roasty character with only hints of coffee from there. Sweetness continues

M- As other reviewers have stated, quite thin for the style. Medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- Starts out nicely with the aroma but goes downhill from there. A serviceable coffee beer but nothing particularly impressive about it. (832 characters)

Pours black with a half inch thick beige head. Smell of fresh ground coffee and roasted malt. Taste of cold coffee, roasted malt and a just a tiny bit of tart sour. It has a light to medium (more on the light side) body with a moderate mouth feel. Like others I agree this is more like a porter then a stout but it is well done (which is why I scored it low as a stout). (370 characters)

A- Pours with a thick caramel colored head that eventually settles into a thick layer over the brew. The color is deep coffee brown and almost borderline black....there is no seeing through this one! Cant tell what the carbonation is like but I'm guessing by the head that its mellow. Lacing is pretty decent as well with many sticky small patches clinging to the glass!

S- Awesome dark chocolate and dark roasted black coffee aromas dominate the nose with hints of burnt malt, earth, raw vanilla bean, blackstrap molasses and perhaps some licorice root. The finish is dry and not very bitter, just dry-ish!

T- The flavors are primarily of coffee, muted dark chocolate, molasses, charred malt, and some toffee sweetness to help balance everything out! Everything is a little lighter than I anticipated.....not as robust as the aromas let on, so slightly disappointing on that front but nothing that breaks this one.

M/O- Again, not what I expected.....leans towards the light body end of things and the carbonation is more zingy than I thought it would....much more cleansing than a normal stout but not offensive....just different. Overall this is a good beer in terms of looks and aromas, the flavor and mouthfeel is slightly underwhelming but I have had worse. I still recommend this and would probably get it again....would probably be a great addition to a stew base! (1,383 characters)

Pours deep dark brown under a 1” fairly persistent, lacy foam cap. Starts on the palate creamy and grainy and then shifts to coffee and darker roast grain. The coffee and roast are not bitter or harsh and are well balanced by the grains. Average to a little above average carbonation, medium to a little above medium body. (324 characters)

Poured dark, almost black, foamy head head quickly dissipated into a slim halo.
(May be poured too cold)
Quite strong coffee with some roasted malt, maybe ahint of dark chocolate.
Thin to medium mouth feel, taste didn't live up to the initial aromas, slightly dry lingering after taste. (287 characters)

A: Pours an opaque but still clear very dark, almost jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and some cola brown highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of very thin film and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of freshly roasted coffee beans over the top of lighter aromas of roasted malts and just a hint of cocoa.

T: Upfront there is a light flavor of lightly roasted malts with a very light hint of cocoa. That is followed by moderate lingering flavors of freshly roasted coffee which imparts a light amount out bitterness. Hints of earthy hops are present in the finish but do not linger.

M: Light to medium bodied with a light to moderate amount of carbonation. Slightly dry.

O: This is an enjoyable beer assuming that you enjoy the taste/aroma of coffee without any associated sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden and the beer borders on being sessionable. (1,068 characters)

When I saw "coffee stout" I expected more of a sweeter beer. Not so the case with this one, tastes exactly like a cold brewed coffee with fizz, if you like that taste this one hits the nail on the head. For me this would do much better on nitro, or at least with less carbonation, other than that I probably would get this again, I guess the low(ish) review has to do with my expectation more than the actual flavor (415 characters)

Was expecting a run of the mill stout, but actually very flavorful and smooth going down. The coffee taste is very noticeable in the beer. Also sense some light bitterness and a little sweetness. I enjoyed it and would get it again. (235 characters)

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium creamy tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is fudgy chocolate malts with a lot of nice roast coffee.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malts some some slightly acidic roast coffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly watery.

Overall, a decent coffee stout. (346 characters)

Look: Pitch black, poured into a snifter with little, and quick fading head. Fades to a ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell: Fresh roasted coffee. Has a sugary sweetness to it, like sweet cream, almost like a milk stout.

Taste: Deep roasted coffee flavor, a touch of chocolate, and sweet cream. Very little hop bitterness, which I like. All the bitterness come from the coffee beans, as I feel it should with a coffee stout.

Feel: Very full bodied with medium carbonation, just the way I like it

Overall: Excellent beer. Better than I expected. I'll likely go out and pick up another bottle eventually. (614 characters)

I don't like that Beer Advocate has changed their format for reviewing. Not cool But here we go.

A (3/5)- Black with a red-ish hugh around the bottom of the glass. Has a thick tan head when poured down the middle of the glass, and just a fine rim when tilted. Looks like a traditional stout for sure.

S (4/5)- Dry for the most part, but it is semi sweet. It's got some milk chocolatey sweetness and dark roasted coffee in there. A swirl of the glass brings out the roasted coffee notes more. The scent is front and center, but it doesn't overpower at all. Has the dry roastyness like a Guinness or Murphy's as well.

T (4/5)- Coffee flavor is not as smokey/dark roasted as in the nose, but roasted coffee is there for sure. Sort of has a melted milk chocolate bar type flavor as well. Light dark fruit towards the end, but I might be stretching a tad to find that. Hops are not detectable, but I think that is just the style to not be hop forward. Outstanding! Drink this when cold!

M (3.75/5)- Body is towards the medium side. But it is still a very drinkable beer. Pretty crisp and carbonated as well. Finish really is dry and slightly watery like a Guinness, but not too thin. Can't complain on the mouthfeel.

Another awesome beer from San Diego. I'm convinced any beer brewed in San Diego is going to be amazing, and this one did not let up. This beer is absolutely amazing in every way possible. Would I want it on a hot day to cool me down? No. But it's a chocolate and coffee lover's dream come true. If you like Young's Double Chocolate Stout, this beer is very comparable to that, and that's my favorite beer of all time! GO GET THIS! (1,649 characters)

A: This poured a nearly opaque black garnet with moderate tan head.
S: It smelled like bold coffee and cream, with some dry dark chocolate and smoky roasted barley.
T: It tasted like bitter coffee and sweet cream and dry dark chocolate. It had a clean bitter aftertaste.
M: It was watery with lots of carbonation. Fizzy body.
D: This was a good coffee stout with simple but solid scent and taste. The body wasn't right, but the finish was smooth, so it was fairly easy to drink. Nice to try, but maybe not top tier. (515 characters)

On tap at the Orange Street brewpub location.

Pours black with a good, durable tan head that leaves lots of sticky lacing.

Aroma: black coffee with a trace of hops.

Taste: black coffee; touch of hops; faint dark roasted malts. Medium bitterness. Good coffee flavor. Very good sweet/bitter balance.

Feel: thin body; smooth; medium carbonation.

O: Well-crafted, light version of the style that's is heavy on the coffee flavor (432 characters)

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours very dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, light char, light nuttiness, light herbal, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of coffee and dark/roasted malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light caramel, light nuttiness, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roast/coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, toast, dark bread, light nuttiness, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance and robustness of coffee and dark/roasted malt flavors; with decent complexity and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice coffee stout. Good balance and robustness of coffee and dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. Pretty one dimensional, but nicely enjoyable. (1,325 characters)

This pours a nice chocolaty malt brown with an off-white head tinged with light chocolate brown colors – A delight to look at

Chocaolate milk, roasted malt, coffee, and for some reason which made me smile, canned corn. Caramel

Velvety mouth- feel that lies on the heavier side and is quite welcomed. Initial dark roast flavors, malt and some slight fruit notes that fades into caramel and coffee flavors and eventually finishes slightly bitter and palate cleansing and yet leaves notes of coffee on the tongue which is really nice

This is a really good and enjoyable coffee stout. It’s not so heavy to where you’re full after drinking but also heavy enough to let you know it’s a stout. The roast flavors and coffee are rather subtle and it is balanced but perhaps a little one dimensional

Poured a dark coffee color in a snifter with a 3F head. Very nice looking beer in a snifter.

Aroma is strong roasted coffee, which lingers for a while during the tasting.

Mouth feel: moderately carbonated.

The taste is more mellow coffee than the aroma. I would have liked to taste the intense
roasted coffee of the aroma. There is also a light, almost vanilla-like quality to the taste which mixes well with the coffee.

The finish is quite good- roasted coffee on the back of my tongue.

Overall: a very good coffee stout. San Diego coffee works well in this style. I would like a heavier roasted coffee taste in future brews. (631 characters)

Dark brown and clear with a ruby hue when held up to the light. The one inch cap fell relatively quickly to a thin skim of fine bubbles and a solid coating of lace on the sides of the glass. Coffee and roasted aroma, malt and brown sugar, a bit nutty with some chocolate character. Chocolatey flavour, moderate bitterness, brown sugar and roast, bittersweet, pretty straightforward. Medium bodied, creamy carbonation, dry on the palate. I enjoyed it. (450 characters)

Small tight-bubbled head. Leaves some ring and spotty lace. The liquid is dark brown but a bit of light comes through on the bottom of the glass.

Strong, harsh coffee ground aroma. Very bitter. I'm not a fan of coffee and I think this too much.

The flavor has the coffee dialed down. It's still strong and dominant but not overwhelming. The body is on the thin side and the carbonation on the high side. Overall, a bit of a one-dimensional beer--coffee without sugar or cream. (478 characters)

A: Pours a very dark brown with a one and half finger tan/mocha rocky head.

S: Aroma consists of coffee, dark chocolates and some earthy notes, maybe a little nuttiness in there too. Some dark malts are present as well.

T: Delicious. Notes of coffee are present but not overwhelming. Additionally, there are notes of dark roasted malts, some lactose I think, a very slight oatiness and like the nose, some earthy nuttiness.

M: Great on the tongue, not particularly carbonated, works very well with the flavors that are going on, a little slick, not too thick though.

O: Quite good. I very much enjoy this beer. This is the second beer from Coronado that I have had and it is very tasty, would definitely buy it again. (722 characters)

Pours a tan colored small fizzy head, fades at a med pace with no lacing, leaves something to be desired, very dark molasses brown color.

Nose brings a lot of coffee, just like pure coffee extract almost, a bit of a roasty toasty coffee, little earthy, quite nutty with a bit of a peanut butter note, a bit of a roasty malt and hint of char, hint of an acrid black malt note, mild chewy malt as well.

Taste brings more coffee syrup, a bitter tannic coffee, with sweet syrupy flavors and a little chewy creamy oat feel, mild fluffy nougat but not much. Lots of nutty flavors again, peanut butter, bit of a roasty malt and hint acrid black malt, mild char, and just a touch of a chocolatey fudgey note. Finish is sticky and syrupy, little acrid coffee roast, bit of an earthy hop bitterness late, more fudgey notes as well.

Mouth is med bod but chewy and a bit creamy, lighter carb through all that.

Overall mixed, coffee seems almost like coffee syrup or extract but has a roasty tannic note as well like hot brewed and condensed, the fudgey chewy and creamy oat aspect is nice, but the sticky syrupy isn't, some nice flashes and some not so nice. (1,150 characters)

Poured a clear deep brown (not black) with a what I initially thought was a fizzy head. The head however settled into a creamier consistency and had great retention and some nice lacing. The aroma was fairly weak, with only some mild coffee notes and a slight earthiness to it. Taste-wise, there was a little more coffee flavor, especially up front, with some more pronounced earthy hops towards the finish. There was a decent fullness on the palate and a little bit of a crisp hops bite on the finish. Not a mind-blower but a decent beer. (539 characters)

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer pours a very dark, molasses-brown coloring with no head. There was no sound of carbonation when I pried the cap, either. This beer pours smooth and slick. Aromas of rich toffee, bitter coffee notes, some molasses highlights, subtle roast character, and a creamy sweetness. The nose leans a bit more to the sweet side than I was expecting, but smells good regardless. Flavors are slightly roasted forward, with a subtle coffee bitterness in the backbone. Some sweet highlights throughout, but mostly the coffee notes shine through on the palate. Very dry and smooth bodied, with no frills to distract. The aftertaste is a building roasted coffee bitterness as you go. The finish is slick and dry at the same time. Like I said, no frills, but this is a solid, drinkable brew. (823 characters)
