My Stone rep told me about this brew. Seemed kind of gimmicky, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Pours a clear pink with a bright white, 2 finger thick head. Smells beautifully floral (imagine that). The taste is unique and quite delicious, you get more of the earthy/bitter from the petals of the hibiscus vice the sweet nectar, and compliments the hop character perfectly. It has a clean and dry finish. Probably my favorite aspect of this beer is the fact that it is only 4.9% alcohol yet is an extremely floavorful IPA. This is a great beer to spend a lazy day by the pool drinking.

Colloboration beer with Maui (HI) Brewing.
IBU = 40

Pours medium amber with a good, durable head that leaves some sticky lacing.

Aroma: floral hops

Taste: ample floral hop flavor with some herbal aspects. Hint of baked bread.
Medium bitterness.

Feel: medium body; smooth but slightly sctringent.

O: Well-crafted, slightly distinctive, IPA

On-tap at Thirsty Monk, Asheville, NC

A: The beer is clear amber in color. It poured with a thin white head that died down, leaving lacing on the surface and around the edge of the glass.
S: Faint to light aromas of hibiscus are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but the hibiscus flavors are a lot stronger. Neither hop flavors nor bitterness are noticeable, although as the beer warms up slight hints of bitterness become noticeable.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I wouldn't have guessed this was an IPA if I was given it in a blind taste test as it seems to taste more like a fruit/vegetable beer.

A: Pours a golden red-brown with 1 finger head.

S: Very floral, filling olfactory visions of sunsets and orchids and persuading you to recall the purple wildflowers of early summer.

T: Light hop as an afternote after the floral light lager feel on the front end.

M: Perfect for a summer IPA, light wave of hops on the tongue with some sense of lager flowers.

O: Very delightful beer for a light IPA full of floral flavor and easy to drink. Definitely worthy of an enjoyable summertime treat.

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium copper-ish amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass and some burnt orange + ruby red highlights. The beer has a one and a half finger tall fizzy sudsy white head that slowly reduces to a mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of hibiscus over the top of lighter citrus/grapefruit hops. The hop aromas strengthen as the beer warms up.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of slightly sweet caramel malts that is nicely complemented by a light to moderate flavor of hibiscus. That is followed by moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit and citrus/orange zest hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness that fades sort of slowly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp upfront with a touch of smoothness in the finish.

O: I thought this beer was quite nice and paired very well with some Thai food this evening... I like the hibiscus flavors in addition to the more traditional aromas/flavors of the citrus hops in an IPA. I would definitely have another one of these.

22oz bottle shared into a PizzaPort nonic style taster glass
Notes taken on 02/01/14

A: Pale and hazy caramel amber color. Has some whimsical soft peach and pinkish tones. Light course sea foam white lid with hints of pink to it as well. Lower retention noted with some splotchy patches of lace left clinging to the glass.

S: Smells of citrus hops mixed with some wildflowers mostly. Not a particularly potent bouquet. There is some light pine and herbals with earthy grass as well. And a bit of underlying malt sweetness coming through. Touch of oven fresh bread even. A fair aroma overall with a more restrained approach to the Hibiscus it seems.

T: Tastes like a standard American Pale with some delicately infused Hibiscus. Subtle and flowery but not terribly perfume like. Some muddled hops of citrus fruit, pine, and earthiness. There is moderate bitterness to the beer and a lightly bready malt base with a dash of caramel sweetness to it. Well balanced with the alcohol kept in good demeanor. Interesting enough to be pretty good.

M: Smooth with a light spritz from the carb. Moderately filling with a touch of drying at the finish. Slight resinous linger on the palate. Pretty clean overall.

D: This was a nice restrained approach with the flower additions. Delicate and well balanced. Not overly used to the point of tasting like a potpourri basket.
The Mrs. is digging on this one for sure.

A - Very rich mahogany red. Nice thick head with big bubbles that faded away pretty quickly. When held up to the sunlight the head is very bright and honestly had a pinkish tint. Very intrigued at the appearance. Very dark for an IPA.

S - Smells like fresh floral hops. Lots of flowery hops in there followed up with bready malts.

T - Blah! I knew by the ABV that the taste wasn't going to be intense, but this is the blandest IPA I've run into. Where's the bitterness? Where's the citrus or pine? Drinks more like a Yuengling or a light amber. Not sure what there were trying to get out of this, but I think this is just a poor representation of an IPA. Kinda surprised because I'm a big fan of both breweries. Oh well.

M - Medium bodied with loads of carbonation.

O - Just not at all what I was looking for when I picked up this guy. Thought the hibiscus would really add some floral flavor and really bring out the hops. That didn't happen. I think Lagunitas Daytime is a much better representation of a light IPA.
