A DIPA featuring a unique blend of Kiwi and other less commonly encountered hop varietals with good 'ol tropical Citra as the backbone, this brew pours up a sunset-like golden orange-amber hue with a copious quantity of beige foam. Aroma is plenty assertive, dominated by dank tropical fruit juice, pot resins, and an oddly sweet doughy malt. I get tons of fermenting pineapple juice and musky guava, orange and grapefruit rinds, and a rosewater floral note ... The palate captures this picture quite closely but with even more of a medicinal, herbal, spicy character. Mixed fruits, including under-ripe apricot or peach, sour white grapes, bitter lemon-lime citrus pith, and pineapple skin dance on top of a bed comprised of zippy pine/menthol, mixed peppercorns, herbal tincture, rose water alcohol, unlit cigrarette tobacco, and licorice. Bitter and not particularly sweet, which belies the old rank pineapple smell. Lots of different hop elements making their presence felt, and to top it all off the malt backbone is odd, mirroring the sweet white bread dough from the nose as opposed to the usual crystal malts and toffee flavors. The malts are buried under the hops, really. Thickish chalky body that coats the mouth, with a long finish that somehow manages to retain many of the hop flavors from the main course. Certainly interesting if lacking balance.

I almost didn't buy this beer, and actually waited until the very last bottle at my go to bottle shop. A trusted IPA friend said that this wasn't the typical west coast IPA from Coronado, but more similar to the lighter hopped, strong sweet malt style I love from Florida and the east coast. I definitely appreciate him telling me to buy this. The only bad thing about this beer is the appearance. The color is a nice orange, but even after several vigorous pours, I got extremely little head; and zero lacing. Th smell is of bright orange, slightly boozier than I'd like, quite floral (hibiscus/orange blossom), and a tinge of hop bitterness. Taste follows aroma, but less boozy. Mouthfeel is light and hoppy but not light in a watery kind of way. Really enjoyable brew; probably my favorite from Coronado so far!

On draft at Duckworth's, Charlotte NC.

Pours with a foamy head atop a light, pale orange body. The nose is fantastic, citrus and pine dominate and the taste follows suit, very tropical. The mouthfeel is slightly oily, not as much as I'd expected. The booze is well disguised.

Quality beer.

22oz bomber - nice to see Coronado's seasonals getting some play up here. Happy anniversary, happy anniversary - well, y'all know the tune.

This beer pours a clear, pale golden yellow hue, with two fingers of puffy, but mostly just bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some strange Finger Lakes splattered lace around the glass as things bleed away.

It smells of acrid, somewhat sharp pine needle and orange citrus, a bit of indistinct tropical fruit, crackery caramel malt, further herbal, leafy hops, and a touch of dry alcohol astringency. The taste is a little more sweeter from the more assertive caramel malt, now tinged with subtle toffee notes, and a fairly complex array of pine resin, muddled citrus pith, herbal tincture, leafy mint, exotic fleshy fruit - lychee, pineapple, and a bit of guava - and some bristling, but politely so, booze warming.

The carbonation is fairly unobtrusive, the body a decent medium weight, and pretty smooth for all that hop and alcohol insurgency. It finishes off-dry, the malt holding out for last rites, while the many-toned fruity hops and alcohol poke and prod to the end.

An agreeable DIPA, suitable enough for the less than notable '17th' - this isn't a teenage girl we're talking about here. More hoppy than malty, with a burgeoning herbal character. A pleasant attention diversion on my last night in my downtown 'bachelor' condo, before moving whole hog to a family-friendly, mid-town house. It was indeed a good run.

Pours orange/amber with a large white head.
Nose shows sweet malt, booze, pine and some sweet passion fruit and orange marmalade too.
Similar flavours, lots of sweet clean malt but lots of piny, resinous hops and a little pear and lychee too.
Could use a bit more carbonation.
