The atmosphere is very reminiscent of an upscale chain brewpub, with a large bar and dining room and fairly generic decor. The service was prompt and friendly and the staff seemed to be quite well informed regarding the house beer.

Beer selection is pretty decent with a quite a few different beer styles represented. The house beer is fairly good, though not quite on the level of some of the more standout local competitors. They distribute across the country but the pub location seems to have a fair amount of seasonals and one offs that don't make it to distribution, at least not where I live. I didn't try the food, but based on everything else I wouldn't hesitate to eat here. The only real drawback to the place is the location, which is convenient if you are riding around on the San Diego tourist trolley, but a bit out of the way relative to everything else in the city. (883 characters)

Easily acessable from the ferry form the convention center. It was a packed bar around 3ish, I got the last seat. I just ordered a sampler it was 10$ for 5 4 oz pours. You could only get the regular lineup. Thankfully that includes the Islander and Idiot IPAs, the rest of their beers sucked, but they know IPAs. They had a few other IPAs as specialties, didn't try them though. The service is friendly. One of the bartenders was interested that I liked beer and got me a brochure. There were tons of locals getting growler fills. (530 characters)

I stopped here for lunch recently while visiting San Diego and spending an afternoon on Coronado Island. The place has kind of a generic brewpub/sports bar feel and was bustling on a weekday afternoon.

Service was ok I guess, took a while for the hostess to show up and had a friendly but somewhat flightly waitress who wasn't particularly well informed about the beers on offer. That's fine, I can figure this stuff out on my own. Fodd was well made and tasty bar menu food; excellent beer battered onion rings, also had a delicious chicken calzone.

The beers were solid and I enjoyed the fact that you can get them in small pours or full pints. Had the Idiot DIPA which I thought was very good and should get more attention than it does, there's just a sea of stellar IPA's available in San Diego. The cherry porter was quite nice as well, while their Four Brothers was serviceable.

Prices were fair I'd say, nothing outrageous. Worth a stop if you're on Coronado. (970 characters)

Came here for my birthday a few weeks back and was very pleased. great location on Coronado, Very close to the fairy and the bridge Parking was a little rough on a weekend, Food was Amazing, great Pizzas and appetizer, the waiter was very honest and tried to get a feel for what you liked and would make suggestions around that. Not to loud inside, some outside dinning available, and a couple families spotted around the restaurant, A bit of a drive for me but a good stop if I'm already on the Island. (503 characters)

Stopped by for a few beers and some food on a Tuesday, early afternoon...

A: Kind of your typical family-restaurant-but-a-bar look/feel. Lots of families there eating, but lots of guys crowding the bar as well. Certainly not uncomfortable. VERY small deck with only 3-4 tables, if that.

Q+Selection: Plenty of their beers on tap... I think they had a few guest taps as well. I had a few of their beers, which were actually very tasty. The Islander IPA was great.

Service: Took awhile to get waited on at first (we were at a table), but once we did our waitress was very friendly and fairly prompt. No complaints.

F: Split a couple of appetizers... they were pretty tasty, and very reasonably priced (it was after 2 at that point, and they were on happy hour prices).

O: Nice spot on a really nice little "island". I'd go back if I had the chance... it's only 8.50 for a round trip ticket on the ferry to Coronado. (918 characters)

Stopped here on a recent baseball+beer weekend in SD. Really just wanted to taste the Idiot at the source but stayed for an hour or so picking at appetizers, which were tasty enough to provide soakage for the pitcher of double IPA. This restaurant is located where the outside sun is alone worth a million dollars, yet the place was a little like a cave, with waitresses dressed in tilted-kilt outfits. Busy even at an off-hour with families drinking soda and iced-tea, with maybe the man of the family having a blonde light ale or maybe something with a lime. Essentially no real bar seating area, just a nook with a couple of stools. That says it all, really. Love the Idiot though. (684 characters)

Stopped here for lunch with about a half dozen folks during the 2011 NHC event in San Diego. This is a decent place with about 6 or 7 drafts on tap. Beer selection was somewhat limited, compared to other brewers in the area hovever, the service was attentive and helpful, the atmosphere was busy but casual, the food was good and I would certainly go back. Not the greatest selection or quality of offerings, but certainly a place worth checking out. I had a cup of NE clam chowder ($3) along with the Tent City spinach salad ($11). I enjoyed both with a pint of the Islander Pale Ale. (585 characters)

Stopped in here for dinner on a Monday evening. The place was only about half full including the outside seating. Upon entering, there is a large dining area to the right, the bar and a smaller section of tables and booths are to the left. About a dozen or so tables outside for enjoying the beautiful weather. The beers I had were fresh and tasty. The Idiot IPA was much better fresh from the tap than the bottles I have had. The food was decent, too. I had the turkey burger which actually had some flavor to it and wasn't dry like many are. The service was so-so. Our waiter had his good moments, but seemed to disappear for extended amounts of time. He also failed to mention the special and seasonal beers on-tap even after I asked him what else was available. Not a bad place, overall. I would give it another shot on my next visit. (838 characters)

I was in San Diego a few weeks ago, and on my last day I went over to Coronado with a random guy I met up with on the ferry over, he just happened to be at the same conference as me, and a beer lover as well. We were both looking for a quick lunch and a pint and this place was well suited.

We sat outside, but the overall atmosphere from walking in and around a bit was of a decent brewpub, nice music, nothing that really drew my attention either positive or negative.

The food was good, and the beer was pretty dang good too, I had the Idiot IPA, and it was incredibly fresh and hoppy. Damn that was tasty stuff.

Our waitress didn't really pay us much attention and wasn't exactly great, she was pleasant, but over the course of the meal she only came to check on us twice including bringing the food and the ticket. Somewhat frustrating.

Great beer selection, the one IPA that I had was fantastic, and they had a few other guest taps from local breweries, notably Stone's 14th which I had a small sampler of. I was impressed.

Food wasn't bad by any means, I had a BLT with Avocado and it was fresh, and tasty, and a pretty good portion too. No glaring issues with the food.

Overall it was a lot cheaper than the other places we had been to that entire week in SD, especially for being in a somewhat "touristy" area. I think for my pint and sandwich it was around $14, really reasonable.

Definitely recommend stopping by if you're on Coronado and are looking for a pint and some food. (1,501 characters)

Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon. Place had a fair number of patrons. The atmosphere was generic chain eating establishment (think Applebees). Probably would have been better to sit out front on the patio. Selection of all Coronado beers plus a handful of local/regional beers. Ordered two appetizers, the hummus and guac. Both were tasty and well prepared. The biggest disappointment was the server, who didn't have much beer knowledge, and seemed to be in a hurry to get us served and out the door. Would I return? Sure, decent beer, food was good. I'd make sure to sit at the bar or ask for a different server, though. (624 characters)

Had a good vibe to the place felt like a spot for the locals and still felt welcomed.

The food was pretty good and so was the beer. Everything was decent and really enjoyed there only barrel aged offering.

They took care of really nice people, got to meet the owner which made us feel like home after. Nice experience.

The beer selection was like an average brewery slash restuarant. Basic styles, there IPA was decent nothing out of the norm.

didn't really get to hit the menu like we should have but the chicken tenders were good with there volcanic spicy sauce. Defenitely would wanna have some more of those. Reasonable prices for the quality of beer and food that there producing. (689 characters)

A fine afternoon when dragonWhale rolled across the water to coronado. The heat was perfect, the sun direct and our souls libidinous. The cool tap house served up fast pints of a delightful hefe, a fine IPA, and a few tasters.

A lady, mid thirties, two divorces, early onset diabetes orders a mixed drink, wyders pear cider, sprite, and ice. The bartender doesn't blink. It shall be done. That is some damned fine service.

We tour the brewhouse, meet the owner. It's beautiful, things are looking up on this sunny island nestled in the arms of San Diego. Giddy, happy, good day fine people, you are some of the finest.

We celebrate the pint by dragonWhaling one of the cities finest in his black and white. (711 characters)

Fresh off the plane from Honolulu, HI, Cuz Colby picked me up at the airport, whisked me to the Home Brew Mart, then here for lunch.

We entered from the rear, but I'll reorient for my loyal audience. Entering, the m.d.s. was just inside the door slightly left. The entry was lined on either side by a garden of various plants and flowers. The undulating brick top of the building was reminiscent of an old Spanish mission. To the immediate right was the restaurant area with booths along the wall, standard tables and chairs left, and a copper chimney for a working fireplace. The short bar was on a right oblique with a mix of booths and standard tables and chairs on a left oblique with the kitchen just beyond, still left. Continuing aft, down a pathway, were the lavs with the back parking lot just beyond. The copper-clad brew house was aft the back bar.

Lunch was a crab and shrimp melt sandwich (!)

Beers: Coronado Golden; Thundering Third Ale; Island Weizen; Rock Bock; 4 Brother's Pale Ale; Mother Pucker; Islander IPA; Mermaid's Red Ale.

Islander IPA would be my pick. (1,083 characters)

My girlfriend took me here after a day at the beach in Coronado, walked into this brick building and saw what looked like a nicer restuarant, brewing equipment behind the bar in the middle to the back, crazy how a small place like this can bottle their beers and keep up with all the demand, cool atmosphere that has a mix of tourists and locals, which I could tell from all the people with growlers, service was good and they were helpful the majority of the time, I had a glass of the 13th Anniversary Smoked Brown Ale which was pretty good, other things they had on draft were a wheat, Red Devil, Islander IPA, and a few guests including Airdale's seasonal Holiday Porter, they had a special for growler fills the following days for six dollars two liter fills, which was a nice deal I would take advantage of if I lived in the area, food looked good, saw a lot of either fish and chips or chicken strips going by, prices were reasonable and especially for the area, I would go back in the future, recommended (1,012 characters)

I recently went to Coronado during a family reunion and absolutely had to get away...my father and I stumbled on this place.

I was not impressed with the atmosphere...while the bar itself was pleasant enough, the presence of "amusing" signs regarding the bar's policies counterbalanced any positive feeling I may have had for the ambiance.

The service however was fantastic, the bartender was extremely attentive, quite knowledgeable and a great conversationalist. After discussing the merits of their "Red Devil Ale" and "13th Aniversary Smoked Brown" (of which there were quite a few) he gave my father and I free half pints of their "Octoberfest". He also pointed me in the direction of some other brewery's in the area which I'll be sure to visit the next time I'm in San Diego.

The selection of beers was wide (they had 14 listed), my father and I tried 5...of which 3 were very impressive and two were good.

I certainly enjoyed myself. (947 characters)

Coronado brewing company is in an excellent setting, but in the end falls short of what one would consider a great place to drink a beer. expect many families and patrons who do not drink regularly; actually, think of the clientele at Applebee's.

atmosphere is similar in decor to an Olive Garden meeting a Chili's. a kind of quasi beach mexican feel with louvered windows out front and a general hue of deep red. tables and booths are throughout with a small bar area as one enters.

quality and service are decent. the waitstaff do not know much about beer and are pretty slow with service. the beers themselves are all served in tumblers, and none of the four styles that this BA tried were anything of note.

selection is good. ten or so styles with three seasonals and seven standard brews.

food is along the lines of an Applebee's or a deep bar menu; nothing special.

overall, this place feels like a chain, with a very non-local aura. very odd since, the location and nature of the establishment could be wonderful. if one is in the area, make a stop, but there are other better options in San Diego. (1,110 characters)

Coronado island is great for touristy stuff such as viewing the San Diego skyline, and this brewery is a 2 minute walk from a nice lookout across the water.

Nice brick structure with ample seating for the volume of customers. Most beers were rather average, as was the food. This is one of those places with the (supposedly) funny signs about free beer tomorrow, if you don't like the service then you can leave, etc.

Service was good though, and prices were very reasonable for San Diego.

Although beers are average overall, their red is above average and worth seeking in the bottle. Seasonals on tap are worth trying also. (631 characters)

Stopped in while on the island.

Nice building inside and out. The service was very good, but was a bit let down when they were out of the IPA, Porter, and DIPA. I settled on the Irish Stout which was okay. The wife had the orange beer which she enjoyed.

We stuck to soup and salad which was pretty good. Saw others with full meals which appeared to be nice portions and tasty.

The prices were a bit pricey, but nothing too overthetop.

I was a bit let down that the three styles I seek out were not on draft the day of my visit.

Would give them another shot if in the area though. (585 characters)

This is in a nice touristy area across the way from the San Diego marina. It hase the typical wood and brass decor. A very small bar...maybe sits 8. Then they slap a 3 drink max on you. I did only have 2 beers: 1 being a Stone black IPA(VERY tastey) and then an IPA. The beer selection was limited but looked good. No beer engines that I could see. Nursing a hangover I just went with the peperoni pizza which was good but nothing to write home about. The service was good, and friendly.

I would reccomend this place if you are in Coronado, but it is more of a family brewpub with a 3 drink limit. =) (602 characters)

Excellent atmosphere. Open-air brick seating are with indoor bar area and a huge fire pit. Food is pretty good, especially the grilled tuna salad sandwich. Staff is typical restaurant, nice, but nothing to get excited about. Most have no idea what the beer is about. Beers are mostly average, but every now and then Coronado will pull out a good one. Obviously can get rare ones here that aren't bottled. Problem is the bar limits you to 3 pints per visit. Are you kidding me? And since its Coronado, be prepared to spend more than you want. (541 characters)

Nice little local brewpub on Coronado Island. I would've liked a taster, or the ability to drink more than a few beers. Had the Red Devil and the Imperial Stout, both were good. They didn't have the Idiot IPA, which is the beer that I desired the most. They also had a three drink limit, which I found odd. Food was very good, although I cannot recall what I had. The service was pretty good, our waitress was a bit lacking on beer knowledge but the bartender was very helpful. Will visit again next time. (505 characters)

nice relaxing place. fire place when you walk in, looks just like your typical restaurant.

service was good, attendants were attentive and helpful.

selection of beer was okay, they had there own brews and then a few others to choose from.

food was great! had a nice steak, something that i was craving after been without for 6 weeks, being out at sea and all.

the price was what you would expect from coronado, a little bit pricier than other communities. course this is were all the richie riches live.

overall it was a pleasant experience, the beer is not that great, good but just nothing to remarkable. (611 characters)

This place is easy to find whether you take the ferry over or you drive.

Remember that our "value" score is based on the price vs. what we actually got for our money. I think what we got was pretty much sub par, maybe it was just a bad day.

This was our second visit, the service was horrible. This girl kept forgetting about us, our appetizer (quesadilla) took considerably longer than a quesadilla should take and then it wasn't anything special, not that I expected a quesadilla would be. The rest of our order was also slow in arriving at our table(grilled ahi salad and blackened ahi cesaer). Nice attempt, but both were lacking something.

At least the beers were good. We had some samples and ultimately ordered a few full pints. We also ordered a barrell aged Super Stoopid Stout. Pretty good, but because we let it set on the table to warm up and then we were sharing it and sipping it, the waitress asked if it wasn't our cup of tea! I think we said something like "no, this is a sipping beer...to be savored, we are just enjoying it" She smirked and wandered off again.

When we were ready to go we had to find someone else to get our check for us so that we could leave. she was no where to be seen. Finally she reappeared to take care of our check.

Not the first brewpub I've been to that has had questionable service and waitstaff members that haven't a clue about the beer they serve. I probably won't waste my time to go back the next time we go to San Diego. (1,480 characters)

This place is actually located across the bay from downtown san diego, i was staying at the marriott marina, so i walked down to where the cruise ships left and took a ferry across the bay, about 3 bucks each way, easy walk though.

great spot right in the middle of the island neighborhood of Coronado, a great island in the heart of san diego.

the service was nice, tv's above the bar for sportcenter viewing.

The food was great, high end appetizers, had the tuna scewers very tasty.

They had a great selection of their own beers and even some guest taps from other local san diego brewers. (596 characters)

Solid wooden brewpub atmosphere typical of mid-90s brewpub ambience. A couple of TVs with ESPN on. Can't go wrong here.

Selection has about 8-10 house offerings plus a few guest taps. I like the Respect Beer aspect of 3 max-why not? House beers are solid if not spectacular-nothing wrong with that especially with friendly atmosphere...but the Islander IPA is quite nice. Service was quite friendly and helpful...crowd was about mid-30s in mid-PM which is fine for me. 5 per pint is right on par but dig the 3.25 afternoon pricing. If you're on Coronado stop in for a pint or 2 or 3 (but apparently not 4!). Good place. Edit: did family dinner here a couple of days later-solid and reasonable also. (699 characters)
