On-tap at the Local Taphouse in Darlinghurst.

Deep amber colour, quite dark, but the hazing fractures the light coming through it. Looks delicious. Head is full and fine, lace is frothy, patchy and complex. Looks good.

Nose is hoppy, but a little generic. Not particularly sharp, with a bit of crisp green appleskin. Touch of talc to it. Quite smooth and integrated, but missing something.

Taste is slightly sweet and full-bodied, but balanced with a good, direct but again generic hop bitterness. Sweetness is almost cherry sorbet; as though the sweetness itself lends a little astringency.

Nice beer. It's truly a Double IPA—the sweetness and depth to the body ensures that. There's a strong enough bitterness to balance it, but the focus is having a big malt presence.

Pours dark amber with a small, lasting head.
Nose shows tropical fruit, mango, lychee, floral notes and a lot of caramel and toasty malt.
Similar flavours but not so much fruit. Lots of caramel and toasty malt along with piny hops and a hint of soft fruit.
Too much carbonation.

A: Very deep orange/light brown colour. Very cloudy with hop particles in the dense long lasting head.

S: Hmm, nope. No hop aroma. Not sure if it's an old bottle or not.

T: Muddy flavours. Bit of orange/marmalade. Tiny bit of pine. Not very bitter.

F: Nice mouthfeel. Tiny bit of alcohol warming on the finish (8.5%)

O: Dissapointing after having their IPA which is fantastic.

Thanks to MrKennedy for the bottle
Poured into a tulip

A-- Poured a really dark amber color with some ruby hints? Sure this is not a barleywine?? Obvious big malt body. One finger off white, more tan head, Slowly faded to a ringed collar and film. Nice. Good head retention as got two fingers of head on swirling. Head does not last long though.

S-- Scorched toffee, BBQ'ed pineapple, abused orange and some pine to back it up. I think the pine was not abused or harmed in this. The rest sure was. Quite medicinal and syrupy smell and gets like old band aids. Not going well.

T-- Syrupy orange, Scorched toffee and pine. (I was wrong, the pine was harmed). Yeah a big malt body but this is seriously over the top and nearly undrinkable.

M-- Lower medium body and low carbonation. Body is correct for a DIPA. Pretty decently oily but this is just a mess. Nothing about this screams a DIPA.

O-- Terrible. Makes me want to quit drinking craft after that. Yea a big malt body but this was wrong on every level possible. Just make a barleywine instead as that could be more justified by the body. I am sorry but this was awful and not touching another Melbourne made beer other than Mountain Goat.

A: Pours a mahogany color with a tan head that fades to some lacing.

S: Aroma of pine, some malt/caramel sweetness, some fruit and bit of grain in the background.

T: Taste of pine, caramel sweetness with some fruit and grain, Nice bitterness and a dry finish.

F: Medium body, quite smooth and a bit creamy. The 8.5% ABV is very well hidden. Very nice balance.

O: Very enjoyable beer. A solid offerinng for the style. Well worth checking out.

Bottle from Local Provisions.

A - Pours a hazy dark copper. Decent carbonation and a one finger beige head. A few rings of lace and a film of retention.

S - Strong citrus and tropical fruit, some bready/fruitcake notes as well. Citrus and apples.

T - Boozy pineapple. Citrus. Some toffee or sweet fruitcake. Sweet resinous pine. Lot's of malt sweetness. Too much rough, candied pineapple sweetness.

M - Strong carbonation, medium to full body and a decent bitterness.

O/D - An alright DIPA. I was expecting alot more, especially with the limited availability. Not a bad one but certainly doesn't stand out.

A - Pours a huge soapy eggshell head over a dark jarrah honey body with particles of sediment swirling throughout and sprinkled on top like milo on soft serve icecream. Clumps of lacing cling to the tulip.

S - Big tropical fruit hop aroma from a couple of feet back, stonefruit and citrus.

T - Peach, apricot, pine resin dominate. Plenty of bitter kick here also. Nice.

M - Medium bodied but slightly overcarbonated I would say as evidenced by the humungous head from a gentle pour. Dry finish.

O - Good stuff.

Pours a burnt amber hue with a two finger head and lacing all over the place, the smell is pine, grapefruit, sherbet and candy and to be honest not as full on as i was expecting or hoping for,the mouthfeel is just over light bodied and abit light for my liking of the style and has tastes of grapefruit, passionfruit, guava, light sherbet, burnt toffee and finished with a light pine bitterness and overall its a weird drop this one i mean its better than average and easy to drink like a IPA but lacks what im used to and like in a DIPA and i could think of alot better ones going around at the moment cheers.

From iPhone notes - on tap at Taphouse

Cloudy burnt orange copper.. Head looks good on initial pour but fades

Aromas of caraway seed - like rye bread, and some stone fruit / papaya. Lack of citrus for an impact

Taste is complex and firmly malt driven - a little in the line of ICON. Well balanced so nothing jumps out. Hint of grapefruit comes throw after a while. Merest hint of pine.

Low carbonation - ok for style

Good overall Imperial IPA

A - Dark copper with a 2cm off white head that slowly falls away.
S - Stonefruit & a bit of piney hop character. Some sweet maltiness and a touch of acetaldehyde.
T - Quite sweet malt in the taste but at least it seems it's not from an overuse of crystal malt which is the downfall of some other Australian Imperial/Double IPAs. A fair amount of stonefruit and piney hop character also in the taste.
M - Medium bodied, low carbonation. Bitterness is there but I was hoping for more.
O - Good to see MP bust out an Imperial IPA this early in their life. Worth trying & hopefully it will become a semi-regular and more refined as they brew it more.

Thanks to MrKennedy for sourcing from Slowbeer

May I say that I am extremely excited to try this after Pat's (mulder1010's) review :)

Pours a dark-brown/chestnut colour with nice head and lacing. Loads of floaties. Maybe they darkened the body in an attempt to hide them.

Smell is pine mixed with a slight brown ale note. I do get a little bit of the things complained about- some Fisherman's Friend and some hospital ward, wintergreen, rotting rockmelon, bad breath and minerally notes but they are honestly quite subtle, and soon disappear if they were ever there to begin with, leaving a nice Galaxy-rockmelon impression.

Taste is a lot better. Rewardingly smooth- resinous, sweet, bit bitter. Nice malt and hop flavours. Nothing to complain about here.

Mouthfeel is also good. Feels silky with nice tickly carb.

Overall this is really a good Double IPA. I was primed for disaster but it's actually really quite enjoyable, and I would gladly drink again.

Cloudy dark amber colour with a big creamy, light tan head. Decent head retention and some nice lacing.

Plenty of malty sweetness on the nose. Some light grapefruit and orange citrus. Earthiness and a touch of phenol.

Big malt with a hefty phenolic note. Some citrus and lots more bitterness. The phenolic lingers alongside the bitterness. The sweetness doesn't quite balance it out.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation. Slightly astringent.

A half decent IIPA. The phenolic is a problem but I don't mind the overall flavour. I just wish there was some more hop aroma here.
