It is a porter that pours dark brown to almost black with a slight hint of crimson. It has a very light head of creamy beige foam. The aroma is fully of mocha, chocolates and coffee. The flavor is consistent with the smell. Nice solid coffee and chocolate flavors. It is mildly carbonated with a smooth full mouthfeel. The finish is dry and crisp with a mild bitterness.

The beer grain build is that of 2 row, pale ale, chocolate, coffee and black malts. The hops are East Kent Goldings and Northern Brewer. And it is also brewed with New Orleans Coffee Company mocha and french roast coffee. The IBU is 35

Poured from a can into a snifter, made a lovely, fleeting head.

Appearance - Deep black body, tan and wispy head.

Smell - Cocoa, chocolate and a little vanilla very nice. The smell is the best part of this beer.

Taste - Cocoa mostly, rpasty aftertaste. Very typical for coffee porters.

Mouthfeel- Somewhat light for a porter, but that viscous nature is still present though not as dominant.

Overall - A nice beer, reminds of me of Victory of Sea by Ballast Point which is the benchmark for coffee porters for me. It doesn't stack up, but for a local beer it is quite good. The best way I can describe is that it starts out very strong then peters out kind of fast. The finish is its weakest point still a very nice beer. I'm proud to see this from Louisiana.

Had this one while visiting New Orleans for Cantillon Zwanze Day! Served from tap into a nonic. Poured a deep red-brown with a half finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and coffee. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, coffee, and powdered chocolate. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. I’m a pretty big fan of coffee porters and this one was definitely a good example of the style. Very nice notes of coffee and sweet chocolate going on here that made it rather easy to drink and very nicely balanced. A well done brew that I wish I had steady access to, if you do, I suggest you take advantage of it.

Pours a dark brown colour, some clarity. First pour, got a near finger head, second, about a finger and a half...I think the keg was nearing completion. Colour was tanned.

Aroma had a very nice roasted coffee, chocolate and roasted malt smell. Slight sweetness.

Taste was also nicely coffee, roast, chocolate, caramel, and very mild bittering hops.

Body was upper medium, creamy, good carbonation and soft feel.

Great coffee notes without seeming at all stale or over sweet. Great local coffee porter! To hell with seasonal, brew it all the time!

Tin Roof Parade Ground Coffee Porter has a medium, beige head, a dark, but not hazy, standard brown appearance, visible clinging bubbles, and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, medium-roasted barley malt and a faint coffee smell. Taste is of the same, but the smooth coffee is more pronounced, here, than in the smell. Bitterness is present, but mild. One will also pick up some sweet creaminess, but no alcohol. Mouthfeel is light and a touch slick, and Tin Roof Parade Ground Coffee Porter finishes mostly dry, easy drinking, and rather refreshing. I would like to see them do a coffee and chicory porter. Overall, this is worth checking out.

Maybe mine was out of date or something but there was no coffee flavor whatsoever and the mouthfeel was extremely flat, watery and thin.

I understand why a lot of the reviews for this beer are much lower than I feel this beer deserves. People are used to their coffee style dark beers being smoother or sweeter with a touch of milk or perhaps would prefer a barrel-aged beer. They may even think this beer is not substantial or heavy enough for a coffee porter.

I am here to tell them that they are missing the point. I think with beers it is important to evaluate the brew for what it is trying to accomplish in and of itself outside of your usual preferences. That having been said, let's discuss what Tin Roof is actually trying to accomplish here - a drinkable porter that is both sessionable and hearty. A beer that can be drank in Louisiana where the weather fluctuates like a schizophrenic man living under a bridge. A beer with all the characteristics of black, gritty, strong drip coffee. I think this beer hits all of those points and then goes above and beyond.

It succeeds in being both substantial and drinkable, with being flavorful but not overwhelming, and by being both very unique and a great representative of Louisiana craft brewing. For all of those reasons, I give this beer a 5/5. It is a shame that it is not brewed year round. I would love to pair it with Louisiana oysters for a new take on a traditional pairing.
