12oz bottle with no date.

Beer pours a brown with red hues. Full finger of off-white head and tons of lacing.

The smell is mostly caramel malts and some earthy, piney hops (not much here, as far as an IPA goes)

The taste is the same as the smell, but amplified. It is a malt bomb and no where near an American or English IPA in terms of hop presence.

It is well carbonated, but too sticky and under-attenuated for the style.

This is a very subpar IPA (would fit better as a brown ale), and doesn't have the dryness that I would expect/desire.

Poured out of a bottle into a pint glass, 11/6/14. No bottled on date. Pours a golden color. Medium carbonation. Tastes fine enough, but wouldn't call it an IPA. Somehow bitter without being hoppy. No hop flavor or hop in the nose. Malt character comes through more in the nose and taste than hops. Wouldn't seek it out if I was in the mood for an IPA. Could work better as a Brown or a Red, but just isn't those colors.

For the Trekkies out there: it's like Synthale, like a computer tried to make an approximation of an IPA but can't quite get it right (SynthIPA?)

At Thomas Creek right now...don't know if its permanent, but they've changed up the recipe for Class Five. Its much more balanced and better hopped with a bigger citrus flavor. It has changed enough for me to up my rating! Stop by the brewery for a fresh taste, may take a little while for bottles to start circulating. Edited 9/12/14

On the drive down to Florida from Canada I wanted to explore some of the local beers in the states we crossed...

A- nice light golden amber, weak off white head not retained very long
S- malt character with a subtle hint of hops aroma
M- moderate carbonation, not over powering
T- good balance of malt and hops, but also nothing to bring to the forefront.
O- the more I drank then less I found. The beer kind of faded into the abyss of every other beer that tries to be craft. It is drinkable, on a hot summer day, just not memorable enough to have much cause for concern. Sorry South Carolina.
