Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #26:

Impressive lacing on the glass forms a slowly disappearing tan head. A shade or two away from complete blackness. Nice aromas of burnt sugar, light charcoal, caramel and a quick woody/herbal/citric hop kiss on the nose. Creamy smoothness shows the thickness of the medium body. Slight char, caramel sweetness and orange herbal hop oil to kick things off. The roasted character resembles bitter dark chocolate, faint dark-roasted coffee and toasted bread. Some oily, slick flavor comes from the hops, with a leveled bitterness and flowery, citric and herbal flavors. The roasted grain flavor lingers for a while in a pleasant way, as does the oil hop. Finishes a little dry.

Not too robust; easy drinking, yet still offers levels of simple complexities. This one really shows that you can have a balanced Porter with a heavy hand of flavor.

Bottled Dec. 31, 2013

Pours a deep nearly opaque body with ruby hints through the light. Thin light tan head. Nose is light roast with hints of chocolate. Palate is a ton of roast, bordering on burnt ash - but it is thankfully mellowed out by some bready-biscuity english malts on the finish. A slight hint of powdered cocoa flavor comes through as well. Finish is light a crisp as a porter should be.

Overall, a very solid porter, a bit over done on the roast for me, but solid beer.

Pretty much black, in color, or lack thereof. Head is a thick two inches of lumpy beige foam that sits for awhile. Lacing is well above-average.

Tinny, semi-oxidized malts. Some dry cocoa and earthy/floral hop interplay. Hops might have gone a little south.

Strange. No bottle date info to determine what's what, but this is one cardboard-y porter. Hops have been dissected and spoiled with some bitterness and a good bit of oxidized papery notes. Roasty, but flatlining. Weak body and showy carbonation. Drainpour. A waste.

A - Pours a very dark almost black with a very thin dark tan head that disapates quickly

S - Aromas of choclate and coffee. I also detect a slight nuttnes, pecans perhaps

T - Big tastes of chocalate with a slight coffee background. Also detect a hint of smoke

M - This is a very smooth porter. I would call it medium to heavy bodied. Has a cooling effect on the mouth as it goes down. A very different feel!

O - A very enjoyable porter. Not as much flavor as some of the others I have had but still very nice. Its a good sessionable porter if there is such a thing. Its not overpowering!

A - Poured in a pint glass, black with a tan head that has pretty decent lacing
S - Smelled of molasses and dates with some dark roast and mild cocoa nibs. Smells rather sweet actually.
T - I always like porters that are easy to drink and this one is great. Smooth chocolate notes, mild roast in the back end, almost milky.
M -It has a rich silky mouthfeel but kind of watery making the 6+% go down easy.

Overall kind of an above average porter but nothing I would seek out again. Willing to try their other experimental offerings to see if I can find a new favorite,

Pump house porter

Smell - like real fresh barley and malts in raw form - just like when you roll up to your favorite brewery. In the glass the hops come out much more.

Appearance - medium thin pour. Smokey brown head with huge bubbles. Wholesome black tone.

Taste - the fresh barley taste is pretty pronounced here. Light milky chocolate notes. Kinda hoppy - that goes with the fresh flavors. Not as earthy as I would have hoped from this style though. Coffee comes to the front as it warms up. Hops pop on the finish.

Mouthfeel - smooth and medium light body. Quite drinkable but not something that urges a chug.

Overall - considering TC's interesting offers this one is quite tame. It's a sessionable milky porter with some decent coffee and hop flavors going on.

A: The beer is clear but very dark garnet red in color (black when viewed from afar). It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that gradually died down and left a large collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of roasted malts are present in the nose along with some hints of chocolate malts.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell and has a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a little shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The relatively light-bodied nature of this beer makes it easy to drink. I could easily have a few of these in one sitting.
