The beer poured into the glass slightly hazy brown with an amber highlight and a tannish head which only rose slightly and fell quickly as it tried to lace the glass.

The aroma was lightly tart and slightly acidic in character. Some caramel was present and a light bit of chocolate, but most everything was masked by the tartness.

The flavor was malty with a chocolate and light coffee flavor. The acidic nature of the aroma had not affected the flavor except to dry it out. The chocolate and coffee of the flavor would make this a Porter and not a Dopplebock.

The finish was dry with a lasting light chocolate, coffee and very, very slight tartness into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a low carbonation. This would have made an acceptable Porter but was not much of a Dopplebock at all. The malt, if ever present, had decayed due to the acidity in the beer. Skip it.

12 ounce bottle. TCD-08 on label.

Pours out a deep maroon brown with a lovely patch of dimpled khaki foam.

Slightly oxidized maltinesd with brown bread kilning, sourdough crusts, Scotch ale meatiness, and a depth of sweetness reminiscent of raisin.

Failed. Overly oxidized and cardboard-like. Malts tried to stay intact, with rickety foundation. Chewed over by apparent time. Dark fruits almost gone. Tinny flavor and aged hop rot preside.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD USE BOTTLE DATING!!

Tsk tsk, TC. This totally should have been called radpidator or paddlator or some other made up word with ator at the end.

Pours a deep black with a deep tan head. OK lacing. Bonus points there, too many "dopplebocks" are too light in color IMO. Nose is toffee with hints of caramel and coffee. Taste is roasted coffee forward, and really seems to miss the dopplebock sweetness. Mouth feel is spot on though, super crisp and refreshing.

Overall, a fine beer, but the lack of sweetness on the palate with refreshing quality pushes it more towards the taste profile of a porter than a dopplebock to me.

12 oz bottle.

pours a very dark brown, almost black. nice pleasant rich malt aroma, a bit nutty. same with the taste. smooth and nice flavor, but one-note, not overly complex. easy to drink for a stronger beer. on the thicker side, low to medium carbonation level.
