Drank more like a straight up chocolate stout.

Light banana notes on the nose. I think calling it a banana split was a bit generous. Got mostly dark and tart chocolate notes.

All in all, a tasty beer though. Would have liked to have tasted a bit more banana though.

Dark chocolate pour with just a hint of brown. 1-finger mocha head, but no retention and very light lace.

Roast malt and dried, candied bananas come out in the nose. Rich, bitter chocolate underneath. Not a big banana fan, but this works ok for me.

Sweetness from the bananas hits first. Chocolate malt and light roast malt come in midway. Bananas come back into the finish with light citrus hops and bitter chocolate. Bananas are a little too strong in the end.

Feel is rich and thick, even cloying. Don't know if it is all the bananas, but definite sugar feel comes to play.

Overall, an interesting experiment but one I probably would not get again.

Served this 750 mL bottle in a New Belgium globe. Artificial cork. The body was a deep brown with a creamy tan, irregular head. A film remain.

The smell was banana skin and cocoa. Primarily banana.

The taste was also banana with a chocolaty finish. Vanilla and cream. Some saltiness in there too. Finishes a bit powdery and drying. Not cloying.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied. There was a slipperiness in the texture. Adequately carbonated.

750ml bottle to pint glass

a: very dark, light brown head

s: smells very chocolaty with a slight hint of bananas

t: starts with chocolate and malts followed with a very small banana taste.

mouth: middle of the road mouthfeel

overall: I was kind of disappointed with this beer, I gave it average ratings but overall I was expecting a lot more chocolate and bananas. Not a bad beer, probably wouldn't buy it again.

Smoky, chocolaty aroma has a strong overtone of banana - hey, I love bananas. It pours a deep, warm sable with a decent tan head that doesn't last but leaves some decent lacing. Smoky flavor has chocolate and banana notes - banana split indeed! - plus hints of caramel, bread and coffee. It is a little sweet, but not cloying, and rather lip-smacking. Smooth, heavy texture is a bit syrupy and somewhat fizzy, leaving a satisfying smoky, tingly finish with a strong banana note. Go bananas over this one!

750ml bottle - Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe in Alpharetta, Georgia. A pesky bottle to get into. The wire on the cage had been way over twisted, I just had to cut it off. The rubber cork was crammed too far into the bottle, requiring a wine open to wrestle it out.

Appearance: Slips out a black body with a couple of inches worth of craggy, tan-hued foam.

Smell: Sweetish, smelling of shaved semi-sweet chocolate, but also roast and just-cut, ripe bananas. Lesser notes of dark, plum-leaning fruits and caramel.

Taste: Sweet, roasted malts with flavors of chocolate syrup, caramel, smoky-toned molasses, burnt toast, and modestly roasty coffee. A few dark fruits to latch onto, but, then the banana comes in. It's a bit slight, for me it's ample, but, with a yellow label and a big-ass banana-woman hybrid, you may be left wanting a bit more. Again, it was enough for me. Then, as the banana slowly dies away, it's back to the chocolate coated roasted grains until the smooth, yearningly creamy finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, soft mouthfeel.

Overall: It's not overtly banana-esque, like that Wells Banana Bread Beer, as the subtler banana inclusion has some strong, roasty malts to compete with for your attention. I enjoy it - passable banana flavors over a solid stout.

32oz growler filled 2 x on consecutive evenings

the pour is beautiful and the head is mocha, light brown colored and voluminous, smells of banana split and all of the accoutrements thereof, really.. taste is like a porter, i'd have to say, and even the mouthfeel is a little thin for a stout.. tastes of malt, possibly some dark elements of fruit in there, but mostly malt and the banana flavoring is the overarching element, in my opinion. the mouthfeel is a little thin but still enjoyable and overall, got it 2 days in a row so it is palatable, however, i dont think ill be trying this one again, more of a novelty brew if you ask me..

Thanks to advent for sending me this growler as an extra!

32oz swingtop growler shared with Brez07

A: The growler was a short pour but still opened with a loud pop. Good sign. Dark brown hue with a 1 finer mocha head. Decent retention but no lacing

S: Actually smells a little like a banana split. Mostly artificial banana with some marshmallow/whipped cream. Once it opens up a little you start to get milk chocolate

T: Remind me of a nice roasty porter. Some bitter chocolate and a coffee-like finish. A little sweetness in the form of banana [This was very heavy on the roast, but I honestly thought it was still all in balance]

M: Medium, light carbonation (could be from the container)

D: Enjoyable, but nothing to go crazy about. Very interesting idea that worked well [With the somewhat recent fade started by places like Short's and Funky Buddha the name makes you expect a little more than what it actually is. Ends up being a pretty well made porter though.
