Poured into a pint glass.

3.0 A: Black color. First pour gave me a huge head and the second pour resulted in two fingers of tan, foamy soda pop-like head. Retention was not good, but the last quarter inch made a good effort to stick around londer. Sparse and irregular lacing.

3.5 S: Dry, cocoa powder chocolate vibe. Roasty with hints of coffee. Minor crystal malt sweetness. Pleasant, but simple and borderline boring.

3.0 T: Taste is like the nose. Calm, simple, and reserved. Cocoa powder again is the frontrunner with roast, coffee, and crystal sweetness to follow. No sign of hops again.

3.0 M: Light body. Carbonation is a good bit higher than what is preferred. Not creamy at all, but smooth.

3.0 D: I'm not pissed that I'm drinking this, but I really doubt I'll ever buy another bottle. There's too many good beers out there to drink a boring one.

22 ounce bottle poured into snifter

A - deep black with a two inch caramel colored head , not much retention, good lacing

S - subtle nose, rich chocolate and honey notes along with fresh baked cookies.

T - chocolate, caramel, toffee, roasted nuts with a clean sweet finish.

M - thinner than I would have thought, but pretty yummy

O - good, but not great offering, maybe just a smidgen too sweet.

Poured from a 650 ml bottle into a tumbler.

A: Black. Pours a 1+ finger, foamy, tan head. Settles slowly, and lingers. Light lacing.

S: Coffee, dark chocolate, and fresh tea.

T: Candied malt. Raisin, caramel, and a little peat.

M: Thick and hearty. Has something of a synthetic feeling sweetness that lingers on the palate.

D: Sessionable.

Atmosphere is okay. Fair head, and some light lacing. Nose is characteristic of the style... coffee and chocolate most notably. Roasted malt, with some unusual fruity sweetness and a bit of unwelcome pungency. Overall, this is an okay quaff.
