I'm really not sure why Magruders hasn't been talked up more; it's great. It might not get everything that its neighbor, Chevy Chase Wine and Spirits, gets but it's pretty close and a better atmosphere. I picked up some GL Blackout and a 4 pack of Ten Fidy that had been on the shelves for a while (2010 vintage) and paid 4 bucks less than I would've at CCW&S. I got to some 5 week old Lagunitas Sucks, too, although it wasn't in the cooler. I didn't have a chance to talk to anyone in the store, so I can't really comment on the staff, but they were around and seemed to be open to questions. It's a well organized store, and while they're six-pack heavy, the bomber selection isn't the worst I've ever seen. Overall, a good store that provides an alternative to CCW&S for more mainstream brews.

This is now my go to DC spot. Just started shopping with them recently and their customer service blew me away. Their selection is as good as can be in DC and they get all the limited releases for the area. When the limited releases come around, they do an above average job at fielding the phone calls. Well done, Magruders.

I am surprised that this place hasn't been reviewed yet. It's basically a friendlier, cheaper alternative to Chevy Chase Wine and Spirits.
First off, it's a local chain. There are Magruders all over the MD area, but this one is the only one I have seen so far with really quality beer selection. They do have a market attached, but they are primarily a beer, wine and spirit shop. The last two categories offer great selection, prices and weekly deals, but let's focus on the beer.
The selection is separated by beer type in the refrigerated section, and by brand in the warm section. It's well lit and has a pretty open floor plan comapred to some of the tiny bottle shops, so it's less stressful than some places, like Cairo.
They have a pretty good selection of local and West coast brew, mostly in 6 packs, but with an ok bomber selection. They have a good selection of Green Flash and Duck Rabbit that I have not seen many other places. Their big weakness is the relatively sparse import selection, but again their local selection is great. They always get the seasonals in on time, and frequently put them on sale. Unlike some places, Magruders doesn't tolerate beer sitting on the shelf forever, and is willing to make a deal to move it if it's old.
The staff isn't very knowledgeable, except for the main beer guy (Brian?), who knows everything and is super friendly. I went there recently for BCBS, and I called ahead to check if it was instock. He hid a 4 pack for me to pick up when it was convenient!
Also, this place has some of the cheapest prices I have seen in DC. Generally if you see it in Chevy Chase Wine, you can get it in Magruders for 1-3$ less.
