330ml stubby bottle, day 24 of the 2012 Craft Beer Advent calendar. A nice way to finish this ordeal off, what with a rabid-appearing cartoon reindeer greeting me first thing on Christmas Eve morn, and now again right after a shortened work day.
This beer pours a hazy dark bronzed amber hue, with two fingers of densely foamy, heavily frothy beige head, which leaves a decent array of grotesquely webbed lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.
It smells of moderately sweet caramel/toffee malt, some lurking sour fruitiness - plum and apple mostly, a bit of sweet ginger, some very mild all-spice, a cool melon essence, and some ethereal citrus hops. The taste is still quite fruity - apple, cantaloupe and under-ripe honeydew, a lingering sourness pervading all, some muddled cinnamon and nutmeg spices kind of wandering lost among an equally befuddled grainy caramel maltiness, and floral, somewhat perfumed hops rounding things out by shouldering the simmering booze load.
The bubbles are fairly restrained, the body medium-light in weight, and tacitly smooth. It finishes off-dry, but still in the sour fruity sense, the malt and softly bitter hops flying under the radar.
An enjoyable enough warmer, with more old ale or barleywine tendencies than the typical big spiced caramel malt bombs to which I have apparently become accustomed. An appropriate way to bid adieu to this pleasant distraction during the craziest time of year. Cheers, and thanks, Christian!

Last of the craft beer advent calender.
A: Hazy amber with an off-white head, very little retention but it shows a bit of leg.
S: Mango, candied pineapple, papaya, maraschino cherries, sherry-wrapped fruitbread.
T: Nice tropical fruit, golden raisins, hints of fruitbread, balanced bitterness, pleasant alcohol warmth.
M: Well-attenuated, moderate body has a drying alcohol finish.
O: A very pleasant sipper. Definitely more of a barley-wine in style, but the festive fruit cake also comes through.

330ml stubby poured into tulip 26/9/12
A murky dark amber with only a thin film for a head even after pouring straight down the middle and zero lace
S ginger, nutmeg and sweet orange peel come out right away followed by some butterscotch with some citric hops in the background and maybe a little melon
T more spice in the mouth but I can't quite place it but I didn't find it on the nose, everything I smells still there but the melon may have just been in my head but there's some nugget I'm pretty sure is for real
M syrupy and needs some more bubbles but there's enough to give it some life, no heat at all is impressive for the strength
O interesting version of a Winter Warmer, I never figured out the spices and it has a strange hop character and very well concealed booze
worth trying and its working well with this chilly fall evening, a little easy to drink for the Alc% I'd never guess it was 8.34%, 8.17% tops

Dark amber, quite hazy. White off colored foam, abundant.
In the smell cinnamon, ginger, spicy notes, malt, light caramel.
Same notes in the taste, still, well balanced and round. Again spices, pepper. Juniper hints.
Sharp spiciness in the aftertaste, on a good malt and caramel base.
Not a bad beer at all, well hidden alcohol.
