I make this trek every three months are so. Small seating inside by the bar, but a nice quaint area outside in the patio area when you want to avoid the squeeze. The service is always great and nothing beats fresh Alpine IPAs on draft. Hoppy Birthday, Nelson, Duet, etc... One of the top 5 IPA breweries in the world imo and the growler fills (hit or miss depending on availability) make it well worth the trip. For any visitors from out of state you have to come here and visit. The food is also great as are the sauces.

Great spot nestled out yonder. Wish I lived closer! Came on Wing Wednesday..wings were a full wing so they are extra filling. Flight was in a cupcake tin which was clever, and sums up the great character this gem of a brewery holds.

Entrees are not the greatest, but finger foods are pretty good. Last time I ordered a pulled pork sandwich that was OK and my GF got a grilled cheese that was burnt. Fried pickles were damn good though. But we're here for the beer and the atmosphere!

about a 35 minute drive with some traffic from Mission Beach/Sea World. Easy to get to Alpine although I drove right past the brewery since it is small and nondescript. Food in brewpub was great and very reasonably priced - my wife and daughter who are not beer people enjoyed it so the food is legit. Beer is fantastic, had a flight of Hoppy Birthday, Nelson, Duet and Pure Hoppiness which will never be duplicated. I didn't realize the store closed at 6:00 and I got there at 6:01 with the door locked but they let me in, god bless them. 100% must do if in San Diego.

I am in love with Alpine brewery. The tavern is a great little diner with some of the finest beers around. The food could be improved. Very little to choose from for vegetarian folks- even the green beans had meat in them. I forgive this sin in the name of The Duet, The Nelson, and The Pure Hoppiness.

My first time up to Alpine did not disappoint. The pub was sort of cramped--as it was pretty busy--but, it still had a nice inviting atmosphere. Despite the crowd and the size of the pub, it wasn't suffocating. The menu consisted of a fairly standard pub course, but the taste and quality was outstanding. Of course, the beer was fantastic.

Stopped by here on a beautiful sunny day while driving to Julian.

Walked in on a wed afternoon and to our delight it was wing/pitcher wednesdays, $1.50 whole habanero honey wings that were amazingly tasty and $13 pitchers WOW.

Started with a 4ct taster; Duet, Nelson, Pure Hoppiness and Laupulin Star.
All amazing and complex brews. Settled in with a pitcher of Duet and a couple pints of Nelson which I dont need to tell you is all that and a bag o chips.

Great small town atmosphere, attentive servers who know the beer, and not a hipster douche bag vibe of any kind. Employees were also very welcoming and friendly on the brewery side where they offer growler fills and bottles to take home.

Great beer+great food+great atmosphere= Alpine Beer Company.

Drink Alpine Beer or go to bed!

Beers are great and they have a lot of them on tap (Duet, Nelson, Bad Boy, Pure Hoppiness, San Diego Surprise, BA Odin's Raven, and more).

Food was pretty dang good too (had the bbq pork sandwich)

Prices are reasonable

Only negative was the wait to get seated - I would say get to the restaurant when they open (11am) if you need to do an early lunch or go at like 2pm after the lunch rush if you have to go on a weekend. We went at noon and had to wait a while but by the time we left it started to die down.

Overall it was worth the drive from San Diego and I will be going back.

hands down one of my favorite bbq spots in san diego. any time old buddies are back in town, this is usually where we meet up. i typically go on the weeknights to avoid the crowds, but even that is a crapshoot, so plan accordingly. the smoked wings (ask for them well done) are life changing!

Couldn't believe how small this place was. Very much a little neighborhood bar feeling. Patio out back, but I didn't stay out there. Sat at bar, staff friendly, guy that served me all night was very friendly, gave a couple samples, talked about the beers. All very good.

Food was standard pub fare with a lot of BBQ Type stuff had the pulled pork, a duet, a Nelson, a pure hoppiness. All very very good.

Stopped by this pub the following weeks after the Expo Hoppiness event since it was just too crowded that day. Its a small spot..prolly seating roughly 20-30 inside and a decent sized patio in the back to relax. (I think I was told that no beer is allowed in the back, but only in the pub)

The selection for the food is pretty good..seemed to be mostly BBQ infused types of food from what I remember but prices are about on par from what you'd expect from a brewery. Got the pulled pork sandwich and it had great heat.

Beer on tap is also available with either 4/6 samplers and Id suggest you try them all if you can handle it! The service is very good and I think it was Danielle who helped us and she was very friendly and always checked up on us.

I came in during the opening hours and it was dead, which I usually like but within an hr the place was already getting packed and this was a Friday around 12. Make sure to walk down the way and check out the brewery and pick up some bottles/growlers!

Stopped in here yesterday on the road back to Arizona, probably my most anticipated stop in the greater San Diego area. Atmosphere was pretty dead when we arrived thanks to it being just after they opened but once some more people showed up it got much better. Quality was quite high, my food and beer were great and the space was well furnished in their signature style. Service was awesome, she spent as much time as she could talking to us and I never had to wait for anything. Selection was a little picked over, they had all of their typical beers on but nothing overly rare. Was really hoping to at least try one of the tap only hoppy beers but it just wasn't meant to be I guess. I went with the brisket sandwich which was excellent. Prices were a touch high on the food but I have no problem paying for quality so it wasn't a huge deal. Overall an awesome little pub with some world class beers to choose from. Glad I could finally check it out, and I hope I can return in the future.

Alpine Brew Co. Is about a 30 mile (60 RT) bicycle ride from my house in central San Diego. On a hot or cold day its worth the trip. I have never driven there, but i really should so i can bring home some bottles and growlers. The Tasting room and bbq house are separated by a christian book store, which is disappointing but after having a few Duets you can retire to their back patio garden and forget about all the crazy people in the world.

They always have a great tap selection in the tasting room and restaurant, the bbq is excellent. Some of my favorite beers in San Diego, maybe even the best IPAs. I recommend Alpine to everyone who likes beer and BBQ, especially if they enjoy riding bicycles.

The only disappointments, I drove up once with my wife and our dog and they said we could not sit on the patio with the dog, so we had to drive back to the city for lunch, then i road up 2 weeks later and there were 3 dogs on the patio. They have a limit of 4 tasters, in the tasting room, but unlimited in the restaurant.

Stopped in here on a trip to San Diego and split a buffalo chicken sandwich with a friend. The sandwich was excellent and the waitstaff was very helpful despite the large crowd. The outside of the building is unassuming and if my friend hadn't pointed it out, I would have missed it. I had a flight of their 4 beers on tap (Hoppy Birthday, Pure hopiness, Duet, and Nelson). All of them were outstanding but the Nelson was the best in my opinion. They could stand to expand their cafe to accommodate more people since they were overcrowded on the day I visited but for a small town, it's to be expected. Overall, worth the stop.

Dragged the wife and our four month old daughter here on a trip to Los Angeles. Just about a two hour trip from Irvine. Well worth it if you have the time.

Very unassuming little place right off the highway. Blink and you probably miss it. They have a beer store and pub/taproom separated by a couple shops including a book store and hair cut place. Beer store has what you would expect - growler fills, bottle sales (3 per person per beer when we were there) and swag.

When we arrived at the taproom we were warmly greeted by the bartender and offered a seat. Very relaxed atmosphere with what seemed like a local crowd having a beer after a day at work (this was a Thursday afternoon around four). The pub didn't have anything out of the ordinary on while we were there but that was just fine as I had not yet had any of their offerings. You can do a sampler flight of four or six beers. We started with the six before I settled down with a pint of Pure Hoppiness. We had the veggie nachos and a couple of different salads. The nachos were good but the wife and I really enjoyed the salads.

Service was prompt and friendly. Food and beer were very affordable. Of course, I'm used to the Chicago gouging, so this was refreshing. Picked up some bottles of Nelson, PH, and Duet on the way out. Each under $6.

Really cool little place. Would definitely do it again if we could work it out, though it is a bit off the path, especially from LA.

This was my must stop on my way to San Diego.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Drank some tasters before just settling down with some Duet from tap and talked to the locals.
Great local vibe and incredible IPA's. Bottles to go were for sale (2 per kind, per person). I walked aways with quite a bit of Duet and Pure Hoppiness. On my way back out of town i stopped in again and grabbed a few Nelson.

Well worth the little detour out of the city if you like awesome IPA's.

Alpine makes the best IPAs in the world. Its definetly worth the trip to fill growlers and or have a meal in the BBQ house that is now attached. Some of my favorites are: Duet, Nelson, Pure Hoppiness, Exponential Hoppiness, Bad Boy, actually just try them all..

Alpine had Nelson, Pure Hopiness, Magnificent 7, and Duet on tap when I arrived. They were some of the best IPA's I've ever had the pleasure in drinking. Between how fresh the beers were and the atmosphere of being secluded in the mountains around random people are some if the nicest and most inviting people you'd ever meet, I recommend for everyone to try to make it here! Their grilled cheese is spectacular as well!

One of the highlights of my San Diego trip and well worth the drive out of the city. The brewery and brewpub sandwich a small bookstore in a relatively small roadside building. Grabbed bombers of Pure Hoppiness & Duet to bring back to the east coast with me before heading to the brewpub.

Sat at the bar with my wife in a couple of relatively uncomfortable bar stools. Ok, maybe I'm just looking for anything to critique about this place. Pint after pint of Pure Hoppiness, Hoppy Birthday & Duet alongside the best chicken wings I've ever had. Maybe it was the beer, maybe it was the smoked then sauced (food, not me) combo, but those bbq wings were tremendous.

So if you're in the San Diego area looking to check out a brewpub making some of the best IPA's in the world.... take the trip out to Alpine!

Great beer! Good food! Overall having to patio to wait for a table and to just have a beer is a major plus. The food is upscale "pub food." The service has always been good, and the atmosphere is what you would expect from a mountain-esque pub.
EDIT- Open the brewery on Sundays!

After hearing so many great things about Alpine and being lucky enough to try a few of their beers at tastings, this was something I was looking forward to. I was still impressed, as although I like a little more balance to my IPA's in general than most west coast folk, the IPAs here were some of the best I ever had. I only wish I had a chance to try all of their rare releases that I haven't at tastings. The taproom was plenty full for a place that seemed to be more of an outpost and the service didn't suffer that much. Make no mistake, this is not just a business venture here, they are passionate about beer. I would gladly visit again if I ever get the chance.

Great place. Little mountain town about thirty minutes east of San Diego. Pub is located just a few doors down from brewery. Get your growlers at the brewery and get some great food and beer on tap at the pub. People are mostly very friendly. The beer alone is worth the trip but the food makes it an awesome experience.

The beer is fantastic, but Alpine has grown too large for its britches. The only reason for the low marks is because of the high traffic volume in such a small place. Alpine was too crowded, too loud, and the service was mediocre at best. The latter, of course was due to the crowds, not to the servers, as they were all quite personable and nice, and food was good local pub fare. What matters at Alpine is the beer though, and it clearly shows. Definitely recommend the Token for porter lovers, and Nelson for those hopheads in the group.

When we visit San Diego county we always make a trip out to Alpine for dinner. The guys love the beer that comes out of this small brewery and the food in their pub is excellent. I usually have the BBQ because I just love great BBQ. The last time we were there it was Taco night and everyone else in our group had the tacos and said they were very good. The pub decor is sort of 50s retro and the only complaint I have is the pub is to small. Hopefully they will enlarge it someday. They have a overflow garden to wait in on warm weather days that is nice. The value for what you get for the money is fantastic. Also the water is great, no clorine taste.
