Bottle schlepped back from CA by my brother, thanks Mike!
Pours a solid black color with a huge creamy tan head that persists forever. Aromas of chocolate and roast with some creamed coffee and molasses in there as well as some toasty raw graininess. I'm not finding very much barrel influence in the aroma. The flavor is sweet and rich with lots of chocolate and caramel. More creamed coffee and hints of dark fruits with some molasses or treacle and solid hits of earthy hops and alcohol. There's a faint bit of oxidation in there as well. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy slick mouthfeel. This is a decent beer, but its big in abv and it shows. It would be nice to see what some age would do to this beer.

From 22 oz bomber, wax-sealed, to snifter.

12% oatmeal stout? I understand this was brewed with oatmeal, but this should be categorized as an American Imperial Stout.

A: Jet black as expected, the beer forms a pretty frothy head given the size of the beer.

S: Chocolatey, toasty nose but surprisingly subdued. Creamy, sweet bouquet, very little noticeable alcohol.

T/M: Chocolate and anise upfront. Stodgy, chewy complexion, lightly carbonated. Super smooth and creamy, alcohol is incredibly masked. Some notes of vanilla, coffee and oak pop up throughout the sip. Singular on the palate...not very layered or complex, but highly quaffable.

This might not be the most memorable BA Stout, but wins big points for drinkability. Has to be one of the least boozy 10+% brew I've had.

First things first... there are many, many beers released with wax sealed caps, one of which is this beer. However, most beers wax seals are made from a nice, soft WAX that is easily peeled off. Not this beer, oh no. Figueroa decided to dip their bottles in some high impact witchcraft of a plastic that made for the most drawn out and frustrating bottle opening I have ever experienced. Seriously... Opening a bottle should not be that difficult!

Anyway, on to the important stuff. This beer looks great, spot on for an imperial stout. A deep dark brown compared to the usual colorless maw, viscous with a huge khaki head. Smell is good, but more subtle than I expected. Lots of oats and coffee, with a faint hit of green banana. Personally, I like a huge nose on beers like this, so I knocked a few points off. Taste is a frontal assault of delicious roasted malts and chocolate. Leaves some toasted notes and boozey warmth after each sip. Feel is mildly carbonated and smooth, but overall a bit thinner than I was expecting, and doesn't really coat the mouth and tongue like some other huge RISs or Oatmeal Stouts. Overall, there is some huge flavor here, and it is deceptively easy to drink. With no real boozey flavor or nose, that respectable 12% ABV can sneak up on you.

Reviewed from notes. On tap @ the Daily Pint. Aged in Cutler's 33 bourbon barrel, Makers Mark.

A: Pours black with a one-inch thick mocha head that fades slowly to a thin cap and rim leaving rings and spots of lace.

N: Roasty malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, honey/brown sugar and coffee, and trace woody bourbon.

T: Follows the nose with cocoa, coffee and roasted grains being more prominent. Well balanced.

M: Full body and medium carbonation. Rich, creamy and smooth. Barely there ABV. Finishes roasty with some charred wood, and buttery fudge.

O: Easy drinking for the ABV. Nice. Congratulations on your third year.

On tap at The Glendale Tap in Glendale, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oats, cocoa, vanilla, and slight bourbon aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly tart apple, cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty and woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but seems to have a slight issue in terms of the apple taste I am getting.

A- Black in color with a nice finger of Tan head

S- Deep dark chocolate, huge fresh coffee grounds, vanillia, and a touch of that tasty barrel presense in the nose. almost no alcohol

T- such a tasty stout. roasted coffee up front with a nice sweet vanilla/lightly browned marshmallow taste that that fades into a perfect balance of booz and barrel notes, then finishes with more roasted notes and a light coffee after taste.

M- Fuller side of medium, Coats the mouth nicely and again so tasty!

O- Very happy with this beer and hope Fig Mt. does more stuff like this.. gonna open the bottle I got very soon and gonna go pick up a few more as well.
