Inspired by the poppies growing on Figueroa Mountain, this West Coast IPA features Cascade, Columbus and Centennial hops. Bursting with a floral bouquet and notes of citrus and pine, Hoppy Poppy is a balanced IPA for any beer lover.

Here at Story Tavern in Burbank and this was the darkest beer from the Golden State on tap. Never had anything from Fig Mountain before but this was a decent first offering that represented the Golden State well!

Can’t say that I know what poppies are like in beer (if they’re ever utilized) but this was plenty floral from the get-go as the aroma had a strong presence of it along with some dry, bitter hops that were persistent and pleasing. A bit of pine and pithy citrus were right underneath that as the taste was a bit more well-rounded. Earthy, metallic, and backed by a nice burn, this was an IPA straight out of these parts - down to its waxy mouthfeel and strong pine forest aftertaste.

The carbonation was lovely as it smoothed out the edges of this and the suds on top of the liquid never fully settled either. It was easy to notice the alcohol although I never felt that this was too strong. Yeah, lots of hoppy beers in these parts tend to blend into each other but if you like your brews with orange, tangerine, pine, hops, and a lingering burn and mint liveliness after the last sip, you’ll like this. Although this was textbook, I enjoyed it and I’d have it on tap again if the opportunity arose!

Pours a golden color with a sudsy white head that lingers a bit and provides moderate lacing. The nose is very floral, with a bit of pine.

The taste features the floral hops primarily with a bit of resiny pine, and a smidge of biscuity malt. The very definition of “easy drinker.”

The mouthfeel is medium and on the dryer side, per the WCIPA style. This is a nice “fridge IPA” that I’d gladly revisit.

Out of the Costco sample pack, this is my 1st favorite for flavor. Very floral and California IPA.

Didn't get a good lock at the beer before drinking it from bottle, but I have had this beer before this review and I remember it having a crisp albeit unremarkable look. Has a nice crisp smell to match. Overall the beer lives up to its name: it's a hoppy and tasty beer whose taste does not dissipate. It's also a smooth beer that's really easy to drink. However, it lacks much complexity. Overall it's a good beer excellently executed you should seek out to drink in the nice Californian breeze but doesn't deserve an excellent rating.

12oz bottled 8-7-19, opened 11-18-19.
1/2" off white head on a amber gold not quite clear IPA...so-so retention, head falls quickly to a solid cap. Wispy lacing all the way down.
Sweet, bready malt with floral and piney hops, hint of citrus peeks out at the end.
Very similar to the aromas, big malt backbone with the traditional WC flavors of pine, floral, grapefruit, and orange.
Full body, medium carbonation, long finish full of hoppy piney bitterness.
Good to Very Good, full of flavor and drinkability...would have another if I had one. Will seek out and try again in a fresher state.
