This stout pours a pitch black color with a somewhat thin, foamy tan head. The smell is a little faint, but it is malty and maybe a little of coffee. The flavor is malty of course, with some nice roasted grain flavors, and some coffee and dark chocolate flavors which aren’t overwhelming at all and are very well done. Despite the darkness, this stout is actually a little lighter bodied than some that I’ve had, almost somewhere between an American and the lighter European stouts. It has an exceptionally smooth finish. I really like some of the beers from this brewery, it is definitely one to watch.

I was excited to try this beer after seeing the GABF medals — those really mean something. But I cracked open my bomber and the beer (best by Nov) and it's oxidized. There's a lovely, smooth cocoa flavor behind the sweaty cardboard. It finishes on the sweet side, but isn't too thick. It's probably lovely when not spoiled, but it is. Alas, this one's headed for the drain.
