Thanks to Eric for this one! Canned less than a month ago (!!)
Shared at Decofest, served in a tulip. Quick review from written notes.

Saturated orange color, sturdy layer of creamy meringue foam. Lacing all around the glass.

Dank and resiny aroma, simultaneous citrus and green botanicals.

Very dry and bitter in the aftertaste, full of resiny green hops. Pine, botanicals, floral, dandelion greens. Substantial feel, though light and drinkable, again with a huge hop bitterness. Resinous feel that sticks in the teeth. Overall a great IPA from New Mexico.

Appearance: Nice clear, light orange color. Definitely light malts in this one. Big fluffy white head with solid retention.

Nose: Big and dank. Lots of Simcoe pine and fruit with some light malt backbone and some vegetal oniony-type undertones.

Taste: Big, sharp bitterness. Lots of earthy, vegetal onion-type flavors. Pale malt just barely holds everything together. Bitterness eases over the course of drinking, opening up a lot of pineapple and grapefruit. Finishes bone dry with some lingering vegetal bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Nicely done here. Carbonation is right on point. Not quite prickly, but lifts everything off the palate nicely. As mentioned, finishes bitter and bone dry. Keeps this beer from being a huge palate wrecker.

Overall: Reminds me in a lot of ways of Head Hunter. The Summit/Columbus hop vegetal/onion notes I get out of this keeps it from reaching true greatness, but I'd happily reach for this beer anytime I was looking for a bitter, dry hop bomb. Nicely done.

Pale orange, almost a sickly yellow. One finger head, solid lacing, quickly fades to a thin white line. Nearly opaque and pulpy.

Bright and hoppy: citrus, maybe tropical or floral in the background. Almost insignificant malt presence. Not a huge aroma overall.

Dry and bitter; citrus and grassy, with a hint of wheat or even rye (slight spice), and perhaps a hint of pine. Almost pungent, with a not-unpleasant citrus peel washing over the tongue and cleansing the palate for the next sip.

Medium feel overall, with a lively, sparkly feel. Despite being hop-forward and dry, the feel is fairly heavy for the style, but smooth. Lingers with some hop oil residue very pleasantly.

La Cumbre advertises some major hops in this IPA, and they're not kidding! ABV of a single IPA; hoppiness of an Imperial IPA. Complex and pleasing. This isn't a balanced ale, by any means, but it has a very balanced mouthfeel, and is pretty drinkable for such a palate wrecker.

Thanks to JayORear for the trade!

Bottle: Poured a hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of floral hops with nice light citrus undertones and grassy notes is quite a treat. Taste is also dominated by citrus notes with some strong floral notes with light resin and grassy notes. Malt backbone is present though quite dry and doesn’t interfere with the hops flavours. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed and approaching HT level of goodness.

Surprisingly long head retention and lace production for a non draft product. Predominant aroma component is pine, but there is a healthy amount of caramel and mustiness. Flavor is exemplary for a well hopped IPA: resinous and spicy with a healthy caramel support. A very strong bitter finish. Mouthfeel leans toward the soft side. The only minor negative is that it is a bit boozy. Hat tip to Chuk.

Pours amber with a two finger white head and nice lacing. Powerful hop aroma, lots of pine resin and tropical fruit. Bitter pine resin and grapefruit flavors hit the tongue first followed by sweet malty tropical fruit. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall this is one of the best IPAs I've ever had, bar none!

Re-reviewed May 28, 2014. Thanks Majin for the trade! Drank in concert with a Project Dank, love them both, but prefer the Dank just a wee bit! I bumped the aroma and taste numbers a tad as this is still one of the best IPAs I've experienced!

Big thanks to the surprise can Evan!

Appearance: Clear golden copper with two fingers of whitish head. Nice clean lacing on the glass.

Smell: Hop forward with pine at the forefront and notes of grass and resin. A bit of citrus in there too, want to dive right in.

Taste: Piney hops, great sticky resin as well and a true west coast ipa. Nice balance with some caramel malt sweetness and hints of tropical fruit in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and smooth with a good texture and balance. Nice hop bitterness which I love in my IPAs.

Overall: Tremendous IPA that I'm glad to have gotten a chance to try. Wish I could get this all of the time. Looking forward to trying more of their stuff!
