Picked up a 22 oz. bottle from The Quarters.

This thing is a hop bomb, pure and simple.

Pours a deep, burnished gold color with a moderate white head. The aroma is strong grapefruit.

Excellent mouth feel. Very strong hop taste hits first; you can taste grapefruit, maybe some lemon, but the hop bitterness is almost overwhelming. I could not taste any malt elements in the brew. Slightly astringent on the finish.

I'm not a big fan of hop bombs, but I'd drink this again. I'd be interested to find it on tap at the La Cumbre pub.

Arrives in a pint glass at the brewery.

It has a finger and a half of foamy, frothy pale white head that lingers well. The body is a hazy dark golden color with no visible carbonation. The head shows great persistence. 4.5

Fruit-heavy on the nose, I think of berries and other tropical fruit, creamy sweet malt, hints of pine and hop resin, and some hop spice. 4.25

Continued fruit presence, but it veers into more citrusy territory, with suggestions of orange juice. There's an aggressive spicy hop flavor that then transitions to a mellow vanilla flavor at the finish. 4.3

Again, I'll emphasize the bite this has, plus a lively effervescence that hits the palate pretty hard. The hops begin to numb the palate after a while, but some smooth, creamy malts smooth things out. There's only a slight astringency and a dry finish. 4.4

This is a hop bomb no question, but it's still enjoyable and offering enough flavors to be more than just a hop attack. 4.4

Thanks to injuredreserve for sharing!

Appearance: rustic medium orange. Frothy white head, a fingers worth.

Aroma: pineapple, papaya, mango, other tropical fruits, citrus rind, hint of pine.

Taste: heavy tropical fruit, mild astringency, light booze, medium bitterness, citrus and pine needles.

***Drinks easy, refreshing, and a great showing of Nelson hops!

Growler from GHB. Thanks!

Appearance: Amber body with a little chill haze. Clearer as it warms up. Pours with two fingers of head that recedes to a cap.

Smell: Nothing but nelson on the nose. This beer highlights the more funky aspects of the hop, with big notes of grapefruit, onion and white grape, with a little cat piss. There isn't much of the tropical fruit softness I get from some nelson beers. It's unmistakably nelson nonetheless, and it smells excellent. There isn't much malt to the aroma despite the hefty ABV.

Palate: Surprisingly dry for the high ABV, with no trace of alcohol. Also quite bitter. There's a ton of hop flavor balancing the bitterness, which learns toward grapefruit-like citrus, white grape, pine and onion. Malt flavor is negligible beneath the huge hop flavor and bitterness. The body is light, and there isn't much sweetness to speak of.

Overall: Nelson is one of my favorite hops, and this showcases it in a great way. It's very different than Alpine's two 100% nelson beers, which are two of my favorites - this beer is more brash, dry and intense, but still nuanced and very drinkable. Excellent stuff.
