To call Nelson Sauvin an aggressive hop would be a vast understatement. What would happen if you made a DIPA that featured this hop??? Over 10 lbs./bbl of hops went into this gem of a DIPA. A ridiculous level of hop aroma, followed by a hop flavor that is literally juicy in texture. The bitterness is undefinable, just unreal. If our Elevated IPA is on the hoppy side of the aisle for you, stay away. If you drink that beer and think to yourself in Homer Simpson’s voice, “That’s kinda hoppy… I guess…” prepare to meet your match. This beer is gonna put the beat down. Will you tap out before you finish the pint?

Medium head, somewhat hazy golden-orange that’s typical for Nelson beers, some lacing. Smells of herbal hops, (still pretty fresh with a can date of 7-22), tropical fruit, candy. Tastes wonderful like all of the La Cumbres I’ve had. Herbal hops, taste the Nelson but it’s not as prevalent as other beers, melon, mango, peach, pineapple, and probably grapes as that’s a hard one sometimes to ID. Well balanced but bitter.

La Cumbre is a great brewery from the Land of Enchantment and I’ve never had a beer from them that wasn’t good. If you like hoppy ales, mostly WCIPA style, than this is a brewery for you. Bravo, well done, cheers!

Pours a slightly hazed gold with a thumb of ivory colored head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: Orange slices, breadyness, a little passion fruit

T: Follows the nose, some dryness, pineapple & a little touch of woody hop up front. Some grapefruit, more woody hops & bready dryness as this warms, some green melon as well. Finishes dry with pine, green melon & a little pineapple

MF: Medium body, subdued carbonation, nice balance

A very good take on the style. wish it would finished as strong as this started; still crushable

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler 8-16-19 for $4.49. Canned on 7-25-19; best by 10-23-19; consumed on 10-19-19. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured orange with a smaller white head that has some hang time.

Nose is citrus and tropical fruits, very nice!

Taste is peach forward with some grapes, passion fruit, and orange. Finishes with a well crafted rind and passion fruit bite; 7/10 on my bitterness scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.

Overall i totally dig the peach grape profile of this beer. Definitely will track this down next time it is available!

Canned 3 weeks ago.

Pours beautiful clear gold with a fluffy white head.

The nose is dank. Pine, diesel, honey, and orange candy.

The taste is orange, honey, subtle white grape, and medium to high bitterness. A clean West Coast punch of hops.

The mouthfeel is a nice velvety medium.

Overall, very good. The hop profile doesn't scream Nelson to me, but it does have the earthy dank intensity you'd expect in an overall clean package.

Orange color with a little bit of haze. Small white head, some spotty lace.
Fruity aroma, tropical and citrus. Some floral hops show up.
I get a taste of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and mango.
Nice bitterness that lingers in my mouth.
A great beer!

2018 version, now available in cans. My review is based on a draft pint (two actually):
L- Nothing obvious here; clear as a copper IPA, straw-yellow, good lacing, decent head
S- More interesting as the floral hop/Pacific wave/dankness are leaping out of the glass
T-Impact is fantastic, incredible juicy acids that have my tongue begging for more. Intense "grape" and wild hoppiness...stays in balance, never raw or astringent.
F- Fantastic carbonation, never over the top. Like a more powerful, balanced elevated but with the full target of Nelson in sight.
O- Great DIPA the way Jesus, Buddha, and Allah would want us to enjoy. Dank, just bitter enough, juicy enough for the "bros" and good impact. Next morning is rough but hey, it was worth it.

Rather dark gold body with a dense, creamy white head. Very fruity aroma; orange and pineapple; pear and peach. Taste is very bitter yet nicely offset with a deft presence of mild malt grain flavors; a bit boozy. Heavy body; dry (almost astringent at moments); some alcohol heat.

Now this is a hop bomb! Incredibly bitter but with enough grain presence to add a note of complexity and balance.

Poured from a 16oz can with a canned on date of 8/9/18; into a pub glass.
Appearance- a semi-oily, dark gold/almost orange with a medium thick, sudsy white head that leaves nice, decorative lacing!
Smell- very juicy tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango with hints of orange peel, peach and grass!
Taste - follows the nose with extremely juicy tropical flavors, but there’s some pine tree and alcohol intertwined!
Feel - big and boozy; not overly bitter, as the alcohol takes away some from the hops.
Overall- a very enjoyable DIPA, however, there’s so much potential here that isn’t reached due to the slightly over the top booze feel; for the price, I just want a little more subtle feel.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 07/31/19

Less than a month on this can.

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice clean/clear dark golden yellowish color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, mango), pretty nice piney. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, mango), pretty nice pinyness. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty well, with a pretty nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Now in cans. Pretty good price.
