Growler from GHB. Thanks!

Appearance: Clear pale amber body capped by two fingers of froth.

Smell: Can't say that I'm terribly familiar with El Dorado hops. They bring a strange combination of earth and tropical fruit aromas. Cocoa powder and lychee, some leafy earthiness, a bit of pine. Swirling the beer alternately brings to mind toasted chestnuts and orange pith. A dry and bready malt backbone is present but doesn't interfere much with the hops.

Palate: What an odd hop this is. It opens with a lychee-like tropical fruit flavor along with earthier notes of chestnut and pine, which leads into a finish that's strangely reminiscent of chocolate. There's a decent malt backbone here, but it doesn't lend much flavor beyond a bit of toasted bread, and the yeast profile is pretty neutral. Bitterness is pretty mild here - this leans strongly toward flavor and aroma hops.

Overall: I'm not sure how representative this beer is of El Dorado hops as a whole, but it's certainly a strange hop profile that kept me scratching my head trying to figure out how to describe it. That said it's very enjoyable and easy-drinking stuff - another winner for LCBC.
