Dark murky burgandy with a frothy beige head supported by a constant stream of carbonation.
Aroma is equally dark and mysterious, with rotting crushed grapes and apples, barnyard funk, tart rasberry vinegar, bubblegum, tawny oakiness, dark cherries and plum, and hints of ripe banana.
Flavor furthers the complexity with sweet decaying grape, apple, and fruit notes at the gate. There's a great bubblegum note that reminds me of the way the colored bubblegum cigars tasted when I was a kid. As it warms more flavor comes out: tart cherries, vanilla oakiness, band-aids, and nuances of red wine. It leaves the prickly tickle of Brett in the back of your throat with each sip and a perfect balance of tart funky flavors and fruity sweetness. It really goes back and forth on your palate. So complex. The 8% not noticable in any way, merely upping the ante.
Body is medium, soft, creamy, and smooth as silk. I've never experienced such drinkability in a Flanders Red before, This is glorious stuff!
Thanks Gabe!
