Year old bottle.

Pours a rather lovely combination of garnet and amber. A dense, but think head with even lacings to the finish. Very nice.

It's sour fruit on the nose. I'd be lying if I said I could pick out anything more specific than that.

It's pretty much all sour cherries on the tongue. Hits sweet and sour in equal measures, but both are pleasantly restrained. Cherry flavour is really front and centre, almost kriek-like.

Can't say anything negative about the mouthfeel. Well carbonated, lets the flavours pop on the tongue. Perfectly on style.

This is a top-notch beer. Never been a fan of the style, but this has won me over.

BIG ups to andrenaline for including this in our most recent cross country trade
A - swampy purple amber, thumb of head receded to half a finger and left plenty of consistent lacing
S - sour cherry, apple, and some citrus, musty with a dry cracker aroma
T - big sour apple and cherry up front, followed by a musty sawdust thing, cracker malt, and a touch of champagne
M - light and bubbly, tart sour kick with a hint of sweetness for balance, finishes dry
O - I am fairly new to the style but this speaks to me, the flavours are bold but friendly and generally inviting

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a chalice. Gave it an aggressive pour at the end but the head didn't stick around long. Dark cherry wood colour that complements the aroma and taste.

I don't have a lot of experience with this particular style but I believe it fits the textbook well. Lots going on here... tart and sour cherries with light woody smoke are definitely there a vinegar pickle-like character.

A dry finish with some bitterness in the after taste, the drink goes down with a low level, fine champagne carbonation.

An interesting beer but I probably won't purchase again at the price it's sold for in the Ontario LCBO (over $11).

A: Stained wood brown with a dull wood red tinge. Reddish brown foam on top, highly carbonated, unfliltered and opaque. Foam overflowed with no agitation before opening.

S: Cherries, sour balsamic vinegar, metallic, earthy woody quality.

T: Sour, metallic, woody earthy qualities all come out followed by a malty beer taste, sour cherries no sweetness, light, long dull bitter linger on the tongue much like oak or wood, slight licorice taste to the bitterness.

M: Medium body, highly carbonated.

O: Well balanced masterpiece. More woody, malty, earthy tones than cherry in comparison to Goudenband. Love the earthiness and bitterness of malt this one has. Love sours. Would go well with cherry pie, great to sip, would also match well with creamy cheeses.

From a 750mL bottle into a 330mL snifter.

Hazy reddish brown colour, like that of a horse really. Low head retention, but it keeps a thin, sticky foam for the whole drink.

Great aromatics here! There is just so much going on. Cherry, sour apple, vanilla, wet forest wood. Beautifully fragrant, I could smell this all day. It continues to evolve and move between its component for hours.

The palate is just as complex, but not quite as powerful. Medium-bodied, huge acidity. The tartness is rounded out by a more forward sweet flavour profile. Cranberry, apple, vanilla, tart balsamic. There is a tannic grip & wine note that is distracting at first, but integrates nicely.

This is really something else! Something worth seeking out & trying. A great combination of old fashioned Lambic beer's sourness & the polish of oak-aged Flemish Red ales.

Totally worth seeking out and trying, even if it is not for everyone.

750ml bottle poured into a goblet. ABV 9%.

A - Poured a murky reddish brown with a 1cm light beige head. The head thins out but it does stick around and there's also decent lacing.

S - First whiff was mostly vanilla. Another one and I'm picking up, caramel, candy, fruit (mostly berries), some mouldy wood, and a hint of herbs. Smelled good at first but as it warms up it smells more medicinal.

T - Mildly sweetness, lots of fruity tartness and the finish mostly being apple juice & mild hop bitterness. There's some wine like oak notes and a hint of sweet & sour sauce in there. The berry like sour aftertaste lingers to the point of being a bit unpleasant. The sour gets much more prominent as it warms up.

M - Medium body, medium-low carbonation, dry finish a bit reminiscent of sparkling wine .

O - Interesting beer. I suspect this one might be better paired with food or used for cooking. Overall it wasn't bad but it was enthralling me either.

Thought I'd crack this open before the 3 year best by date. From Bir&Fud in Rome.

Light reddish brown color, pours with a substantial head that recedes to a thin cap of foam. No lacing to speak of.

Smells of bready malt, nuts, fruit--raisins and figs. A touch of funk under a layer of candi sugar sweetness.

Tastes of nutty red malt with a twangy bite, cola, milk chocolate. Seems more like a Belgian dubbel than a Flanders brew. A bit of balsamic and strawberry. A little anise too. Some white pepper in the finish. Sweet like a quad, but all these flavors work together well.

Medium bodied, round carbonation with big bubbles, it is creamy on the palate.

A very nice red ale with an Italian twist.
