From a RB tasting thanks to Brad. 2006 vintage.

a - Pours a deep mahogany color with a reddish tint, a few bubbles of off white head and low carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sour dark fruits, wine, oak, earthy notes, vinegar, and fruity malts. Nice and sour, really like it.

t - Taste follows the nose; lots of sour dark fruits, tart cherries, fruity malts, vinegar, oak, earthy notes, tannic.

m - Medium body and no carbonation. The no carbonation hurt it a bit, but pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a good beer. Would put it right under the Italy version due to the lack of carbonation. Nice and sour, definitely worth checking out.

A Rare Beer Club offer. Pours a reddish brown color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma of dark fruits. Taste is slightly sour but mostly dry. Not sweet but very smooth. Enjoyed it.

750 ml bottle served cold-ish into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $16 CDN. Bottling date appears to be sometime in November 2017.

Appearance - Mildly hazy dark red with brownish hues. A finger plus of off-white head is poured, good staying power and lots of lacing left behind.

Smell - Complex is where it begins. Balsamic and cranberry are most prominent, there is also a distinctive musty aroma to the beer. Possibly some wood and a faint bit of cherry sweetness at the end. How the mustiness, wood and balsamic play together is tough to decipher, having limited experience with those three aromas working together.

Taste - Initially balsamic then tartness, possibly rhubarb and cranebrries and wood mixed in. Goes musty in the flavor too which doesn't quite work for me but it adds complexity. Finishes with cranberries and more wood although it is subtle. Some lemon in the close as well. Complex, but the mustiness doesn't make this something I'd enjoy on a regular basis. Booze is seamlessly integrated. I think there's an element of raspberry in here too.

Mouthfeel - Medium body, even to the point of being watery with lower carbonation and a drying finish. Refreshing as far as 8% ABV sours go.

Overall - Panil Barriquee Sour is certainly a complex beer with a lot of disparate flavors and aromas coming together for a fairly well integrated brew. The booze is seamlessly hidden too. I'm not a big fan of the mustiness, bit for something with this level of complexity, it comes together quite nicely and that in itself should be acknowledged. Worth a try and probably worth a share with a couple of buds who like sour beers too.
