Draft. Poured into a tall glass a dark brown color with a slight tan head. Dark fruit and roast in the nose. Medium mouthfeel. Slight smoke in the taste along with dark fruit, vanilla, and roasted coffee flavors. Not bad and drinks rather nice. Could use a little more of something though to push it over the mediocre for me.

Rather plain and rustic. Lots of chocolate malt. A bit chalky. Aroma is modest with a hint of roast malt. Just slightly sweet with all the malt, and trends more on the acidic side. Rather earthy but without any detectable Belgian flavors. Better with food. Darker than some porters in the chalice, some lacing.

Who would have thought a boring Belgian bruin was possible, so I'm glad it was categorized where it belongs, with the American Brown Ales. On tap at the brewpub.
