From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #65 (June 2012):

LOOK: Sturdy head, hazed brassy amber

SMELL: Dank hops, hemp seed oil, minty resin, orangey, clean estery alcohol, herbal, nutty, pineapple, mango, toasted grain

TASTE: Creamy, full bodied, very bitter, very herbal, marmalade, fallen apples, phenolic, walnut husk, very warming alcohol, peppercorn, banana skins, toasted crackers; never-ending hoppy, drying finish

It is a hard slap in the mouth, but our palates ask for more. The brewer clearly put little to no restraints on this ale, and we’re glad they didn’t. Clearly more American than Belgian, but it’s great to have the that house yeast edge to set it apart from most of the intensely hopped DIPAs out there.

Thanks to SurlytheDuff for this one. 16oz. can into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a 2.5 finger frothy, cream colored head with good retention. Beer is a clear mahogany. Lacing is thick and layered with good stick. A pretty good looking brew!

Nose is citrus, cane sugar, clove with a bit of soapiness. Tropical fruit too. On point and moderately aromatic.

Opens citrus, Belgian yeast, papaya and clove. Some coriander with a bit of pepperiness in the middle. More tropical fruit and dank hop bitterness. End is citrus, cane sugar and a sap hop bitterness. Finishes spicy, sweet, and hoppy. This tastes exactly as I would think... but its not very good.

Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a touch of bubbles in the mouth and goes down lively. Finishes messy with a lingering, sticky, dry aftertaste. Decent.

A decent beer but the flavors just don't work here. The Belgian yeast clashes with the citrus, and sap hop profile. Definitely to style, but it's just not very good.

Pours thick and sticky, golden yellow with a sunburst of orange, rather cloudy and almost syrupy it's so thick.

Hop bomb for sure, juicy grapefruit and tropical notes overload the senses.

Uhm, hmm, thick and sticky like fruit juice. Way too malted and the sweetness is just too overpowering. Citrusy, and tropical, but not enough hop bite to cut through all of the sweet.

Mouthfeel, is sticky and syrupy, not good.

This pours beautifully and smells great, but feels and tastes like a hop juice box without any bitterness to note from the hops.

Another beer courtesy of the legendary woodychandler. Poured from a 16 oz. can. The crack resulted in some beer squirting out and hitting me in the forehead. Settled in the glass with a caramel/orange color and about 1.5 inches of head. Smell had lots of hops, tropical fruits. Taste is hops, grapefruit, some malts, tropical fruits, alcohol is very well hidden. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer worth seeking out.
