On tap at the brewery, into a snifter.
Black body, with minimal clarity but some burgundy hues at the edges. Fairly dense beige head with good retention and lace. Nose has some lactose, butter, light smoke/ashtray and a hint of metal. Not super appealing by any stretch. Taste doesn't do much to help this beers case, with more wet ashtray/stale cigarette flavour, and the lactose only accentuates this somehow. Perhaps some chocolate in there as well. More ashtray into the finish, almost offensively so. Moderate bitterness, but a good bit of sweetness to 'balance.' Lighter feel than I'd like in a milk stout - couldn't finish the glass, this was far and away the worst beer offered by these guys.

served from the nitro tap in a tall thinner glass. Proper two-part pour.
appears black with the typical thick white perfect layer of head. mild aroma, slightly roasty. had to bury my nose to get a smell.
taste is slightly sweet and sugary expected of the style. smooth creamy body that goes down easy.
overall - about what I expected. If you want a change up from Vivant's Belgian style offerings, order up a pint of this.

Nitro tap to Becher glass.
A- Typical nitro. Rich tan head, 2-fingers high. Deep brown-black body. Good sustain on head and quality lacing.
S- Rich and robust. Expected chocolate aroma, like milk chocolate or a creamy milkshake. Unexpected, roasty, smoky scents. Quite appealing.
T- Follows aroma. Sweet, rich milk chocolate. Smokiness isn't quite as appealing as the aroma would suggest.
M- creamy and smooth. Full bodied. Nitro is a nice way to go.
O- nice brew. Had a second. Roasty quality is interesting at first, kind of wears after a couple servings.
