Received as an extra by a very generous trader. I was surprised to find this beer had not been reviewed yet. Vivant is a brewery that I don't see here in California, other than that collaboration with New Belgium they did. It appears that they do a limited release series where they have a generic can and place the limited beer name sticker on the front of it. It is a great idea for breweries that are using cans and doing very small batches. This beer pours a dark brown, with a hint of amber and red. Large white head. Scent is interesting....nothing special. Slightly hoppy with some malt and a hint of peppery Belgian yeast. Some more Belgian spiciness. Taste is a lot like it smells. Not a whole lot going on here. This beer has a slight tartness to it with some grassy hops and grainy malt. Hints of dark malt with just a drop of chocolate. Peppery and spicy. Very refreshing, but not the most flavorful beer. Drinkability is high, as the lack of flavor and low ABV make it a good tailgate beer in a way. Mouthfeel is somewhat dry and tingly from the Belgian, yeasty, spiciness. Overall, this beer is an interesting choice to do a limited release on. Noting spectacular here, other than it's drinkability and difference from most session beers out there. Flavor is severely lacking in the hops and in the Belgian characteristics, yet it is not a bad beer. I called this one a Belgian Dark Ale. Don't see it fitting in the American India Pale Ale style, nor do I see it fitting in the Belgian India Pale Ale section. (1,523 characters)
