Notes/Commercial Description:
Maple-Kissed Wheat Porter is a medium-bodied porter that tastes amazingly smooth and velvety. The rich and creamy mouthfeel is a result of the wheat used in the brewing process. Local maple syrup gives this beer just a hint of palate-pleasing sweetness as well as a nice depth of flavor.

We call this beer “maple-kissed” because we use just the right balance of maple syrup to impart a delicious flavor without the beer becoming sweet.

Pour from a fresh growler into a tulip glass. Dark brown bordering on black body. Creamy light mocha head. Solid lacing. Smell is coffee, milk chocolate, and some light maple syrup. Taste follows the nose. Light roasted bitterness. Mouth feel is light to medium with decent carbonation. A solid maple porter. Easy drinking and tasty.

I do love throwback brewery but I found myself really searching for flavors based on the name.

There is a really nice scent and after a couple sips I slightly tasted the maple but it wasn't as profound as I expected.

However, it is still a decent stout!

Thanks Rochefort10NH!

A - Deep, dark brown in color, this porter is near black. A vigorous pour creates a frothy khaki head above the beer which settles rather rapidly leaving trace patterns of lace on the glass.

S - I'm cautious to use the word sour here, but there's almost a touch of sourdough bread and sour mash to the nose. It strikes me as odd, but the beer otherwise has a delicious light smokiness and touch of maple syrup gently surrounding the moderately roasted malts.

T - Maple seems entirely fermented out leaving no trace flavors behind, at least none that contend with a lightly smoky and bitter chocolate roasted malt flavor. Astringent singed wheat bread and earthy herbal hops trail off on the back end.

M - Medium-light bodied, this beer feels more like a dark wheat ale here, somewhat soft on the tongue with an effervescence that ushers in a roasted bitterness and dry profile on the finish.

O - Throwback's Maple-Kissed Wheat Porter encourages delicate smoked wood notes to develop around a roasted malt body but the somewhat thin feel suggests a wheat beer with dark malts and a splash of maple syrup that's been fermented out. The beer in the bottle doesn't sell me on the name, but I'm not about to pour it out either.

This was a beautiful beer: very dark brown color with a huge, sticky tan head that retained well. There was a tiny bit of lace.

Pleasant aroma of sweet chocolate. Some roasted malt/coffee. The maple syrup was present, but not in a big way.

Taste disappointed; did not at all live up to the aroma. Mostly chocolate and coffee, couldn't really get the maple syrup.

A little on the metallic side for mouthfeel.

Not sure I would want to try this beer again.

Thanks to beerworld for hooking me up with this.

A - Very dark brown colored beer. Pretty good sized tan head that had decent retention. Some moderate stuff left on the glass.

S - There is a bit of maple in here. This is a pretty odd smelling beer, I think Dark Wheat is a more accurate description than the word "Porter" on the bottle which is a little misleading. Caramel, cocoa, touch of spice.

T - Taste is about like the nose. Tastes like a wheat beer that had a lot of caramel malt dropped in. Maple is there, but it's not as prominent as I expected. Kind of strange, not great.

M - Medium bodied, a bit creamy, moderate carbonation.

O - First "wheat porter" I've had. Throwing maple in there would have been a nice touch if the base was a better beer. As was, this beer was forgettable.

Pours dark brown but sits opaque black in my glass. 3 finger Mr. Bubbles bubble bath head sticks to my glass like trub in my primary.

Smells like slightly smokey coffee grinds and maple drizzle. Faint aroma.

This beer is like a mullet - very little up front with the whole party in back. Bitter roast malt and a little smoke. Maple is subtle which sucks because it's so prominently advertised in the title. In fairness, it claims maple "kissed" and not maple thumb in the butt.

Better served at room temp I left the second half of the 22oz. out on the counter to warm up while I drank the first half. It really helped wring out the flavors.

Pours a solid dark brown color that borders on black. Spirited level of carbonation provides a monstrous bubbly and creamy tan head that slowly recedes. Smells of caramel, chocolate, and brown sugar mostly, but also has a hint of spice and earth or ash in there as well. Taste is mildly spicy with a moderate maple and malt sweetness in there. I get a bit of caramel and chocolate in here, but the spice of the wheat malt always comes back to dry this up a bit. Medium body with a sweet creamy spicy mouthfeel. I honestly think this beer is a case of I put too much crap in my home brew. Its kind of tasty, but there are too many things going on that don't compliment each other. The spice of the wheat is fighting with the sweetness of the maple. Is this a wheat? Is it a porter? Well its kind of both but it does neither very well.

First had: on tap at Throwback

The name sounded promising anyway. Dark brown pour with a tan ringlet; no retention or lacing worth mentioning. Aroma was pretty muted: dark malts, somewhat bready, a little bit of roast. Taste was similar, roasty malts, cereal grains, maybe a touch of coffee-like bitterness. Nothing really memorable going on, and certainly nothing "maple" in the profile. I've learned that maple is a difficult thing to brew with, and it almost never gives the results your looking for. As far as this beer goes, they should probably just strike the word out of the title. Thin mouthfeel, on the lighter side of medium-bodied. Not much else to say.
