A- pours a crystal amber with with a thin white head which settles into pools of lacing.

S- big big citrus notes of grapefruit and orange peel, caramel malts, and a touch of heat in the background that I'm guessing is brought on by this being served at cellar temp.

T- candied orange peel, grapefruit, caramel, bitter piny and herbal hops, a touch of heat.

M- syrupy hop oils and a viscous body with moderate carbonation.

D- a potent and big dipa definitely west coast in style with powerful hopping and bitterness. A hop heads delight.

Thanks go out to Csmiley for the treat I poured the bottle into a tulip glass and it produced a nice two finger head that stuck a round for a while and had a nice lace that followed the beer down the glass. The body of the brew was a nice color of golden orange.

The aromas' of Simcoe hops were right out front I due like them so it was really enjoyable. The flavor was great as well nice and balanced being hop forward a bit but not so bitter that you wouldn't want to session this brew. It had a swolid meduim feel in my mouth with ample carbonation to keep me coming back for more

I could easily session this brew like I said earlier. A good DIPA worth seeking out for the try, and a brew a local should be proud of

Dried apricot orange with butterscotch colored edges when backlit with morning sunshine. There goes my theory that 100% pale malted beer can't be darker than gold. The pastel orangish beige colored crown is both bubbly and sticky. Thick sheets of BB-shot lace look good enough to earn the big score.

One rarely runs across an American DIPA that uses only four ingredients. This one includes pale malt, Simcoe hops, water and yeast. The nose isn't a gobsmacker, but it has plenty of tropical fruity goodness... and no toasted maltiness to get in the way.

The Brew Keeper's Old 21 Imperial Pale Ale is better beer than 4 C's Pale Ale. That said, it isn't significantly better and may not deserve a higher taste score. Before jumping to any hasty conclusions, let's see what the rest of the bomber has to say for itself.

Considering color and flavor, I'm positive that something darker than pale malt was used. Caramel-crystal is almost a certainty, assuming that my eyes and taste buds are in good working order. Maybe TBK changed the recipe along with the label. The new label looks much better than the picture seen above.

The flavor profile delivers sugar cookies drizzled with melted caramel, a bit of butterscotch, pink grapefruit peel and bitter orange peel. In the end, the borderline abrasive hoppiness (90 IBUs) is winning me over. At least this isn't one of those overly malty, sappy, sticky, insufficiently hopped versions of the style that seem to be all the rage these days.

The body-mouthfeel finds that often elusive sweet spot between too light and too heavy. It's easily medium-full and has a creamy smoothness that is complemented by an ideal amount of hard-working bubbles.

Given the new label, Old 21 refers to the former Ohio route 21, which (I think) was in the vicinity of the brewery. Keeping with the theme, Old 21 Imperial IPA is a road well worth traveling, especially if like your beer to be both big and hoppy.

The Brew Kettle Production Works Old 21 Imperial IPA - 9% ABV - Consumed March 21, 2013.

A: pours a clear amber hue with bronze edges, one finger of frothy white foam, lots of bubbles in the body, sheets of lacing on the pint glass. Nice look.

S: pine, hemp, bread crust, citrusy and herbal hops, grapefruit, honey, nuts, cotton candy, resin, navel orange, alcohol esters, and nectarine. Fresh and aromatic nose that falls just short of greatness.

T: juicy, citric, and orangey hops upfront, peach, caramel sweetness mid-palate, nutty malt, pine resin and bread crust to end. 90 IBUs make themselves known with some lingering heat in the throat. Good.

M: full side of medium-bodied, bordering on syrupy, with a spicy, citric and drying hop bitterness and lasting piney-bready afters. Consistent with the style.

O: a very respectable East Coast DIPA that I would gladly purchase again.

Pours a semi-clear orange with a thin white head and good lacing.

A little bit of citrus and tropical fruit hoppiness, but the nose is very subdued compared to others in the style.

Very impressed by the flavor after a non-descript aroma. Starts off with some very juicy tropical fruit. A touch of caramel malt balances out the hops and it finishes with a nice pine presence.

Good mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Very impressed by this one. It's not among the elite, but has some complex hoppiness to it and enough malt to balance it out.

A 650 mL bomber from Vintage Estate. I've gotta get to the brewpub on my next trip...

A: The DIPA is an amber color, like dried brown leaves in the fall. At times radiant, the ale doesn't give up its translucence. A finger plus of off-white head laces in thick patches about a finger below the mouth of my glass.

S: The nose is medicinal and oily, excess pine is soft but definitely present. The more I linger, the more resiny and citrusy the aromas get. A very tempting sniff.

T: A good dose of Simcoe hops but an equally strong caramel presence, all good things are about balance after all. The simcoe grabs hold early, resiny with pine and citrus kick. For a DIPA, the hops aren't too concentrated. Instead they carry the ale without fuss. Check that, there is a hint of boozy heat near the end of each sip but it is easy to overlook. Despite that hiccup, I'm a fan of this ale.

M: The mouthfeel is hop driven but it isn't prickly and hot. The hops are at their most resiny, smoothing out the ale considerably. But they are strong and leave their mark.

D: More, please! The third pale ale incarnation from The Brew Kettle that I've really enjoyed. A strong DIPA any way you look at it.

The beer pours a clear caramel, golden orange/brown topped by a foamy white head that laces and leaves a thin coating throughout drinking. The nose is predominantly perfumey grapefruit sweetness, a bit of citrus rind, and tropical fruit. Juicy grapefruit dominates the palate, but it's far more bark (aroma) than bite (AAs), and has a big malty backbone to support the generous amount of citrusy hops. This qualifies as a big DIPA with a medium body, adequate carb, and reasonable sweetness, but the booze and bitterness become a bit overpowering/tiring after awhile. The biggest limitation of this beer is its tremendous alcohol content, but my slight criticisms wouldn't cause me to avoid this beer in the future.

Murky pale golden yellow body with loads of sticky lacing.

Pleasant aroma of tropical fruits... Pineapple, mango, and orange. Little malt presence.

A solid showcase of simcoe hops. Tropical fruit dominates the hop profile. Spot on with the bitterness.

Mouthfeel is sticky with low carbonation.

It's a solid DIPA and certainly quenches any hophead's craving.
