After hearing about this brew for quite awhile, I finally got a chance to try it and it lived up to the hype.
Great hoppy flavor that actually drinks like a DIPA. As good as it gets.

Big thanks to seeswo for yet another outstanding brew

Live review.

A beautifully clear and actively sparkling golden, topped by a finger's offwhite head that joins into a rim of crazy lace. Beer porn, man.

Med. strength aroma, but a heavenly perfume it is! Lemon, orange peel, mango, and sweet grapefruit, neutral sweet, a hint of honey, and floral notes of fine fragrance, my gosh, but it draws me like the scent of a woman, and sends my tastebuds to priapus.

Ah, now that's what I'm tlaking about, American Breewing 2011! We've arrived, man; American brewers using American hops and malt, and American craftsmanship, and American brewing genius to make Universal works of drinkable art. Exhibit A, White Rajah, starts with a zip of sweet lemon, lemon zest, orange zing, grapefruit zig, and just a hint of piny zag. It tingles and tickles the tongue through a sip that is one of those that just keeps giving, and finally crests with a breaking wave of clean bitter hop and just the right amount of sweet still in it, all the other flavors still aswirl on palate. My but this is delicious!

It's the mouthfeel, here, the center stage for a wonderful cast of flavor, which enables this beer. It's low/med. carb, very viscous and coating, easy drinking to a fault, and a finish that is the template for this style IMHO. What is crazy is it has so much resin, which can be cloying or leave a bad aftertaste in unbalanced abundance like this, but here just leaves clean wonderful flavor to linger.

My impression of this beer is if given enough of this, and sufficient time to do it, I am certain I could consume a volume equal to the amount of hydrogen in the Sun, and still be wanting more. Get this if you see it, my next step will be to mail seeswo and beg to trade for more.

White Rajah - The Brew Kettle Taproom & Smokehouse / Production Works. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's head is one finger thick and off-white , with secular lacing, and a clear straw gold body.

I smell a very generous, yet non-offensive helping of the citrus and tropical hops described on the labeling.

Tastes like much of the same described above, but with a nice mid-palate snap. Clear, bright, and refreshing. I think this taste is just on the line between IPA and Imperial IPA.

The mouthfeel I'm getting from this beer is smooth and crisp. Again, the bite appears and has a responding tingle on the tongue as a result. I'm starting to wonder if other people have experience...

Overall, I'll give White Rajah - The Brew Kettle Taproom & Smokehouse / Production Works a 4.75. This is an extremely solid offering from this Ohio brewery. Again, I can't get over the unique mouthfeel.

Had a few bottles of the White Rajah in my fridge from a party the weekend before. Intending to savor the taste of some wonderful takeout, I poured a bottle into a glass. I didn't realize that I hadn't touched the takeout when I had already finished the Rajah. Best beer I've had in over a year. Timing? Beer? Who knows. But man, was it good!

Taste: HOP BOMB, dang this is one smooth IPA, front of the tongue lingers a fruity ester of pineapple and mango with some grapefruit to cover up VERY little malt to balance all and all great beer

Mouthfeel: light to medium

I actually went back to a pub I had been to when I realized they had this and I missed it. The prior night I had Fathead Headhunter and thought that was amazing. Honestly, I think this little IPA topped it! The smell was perfect. Heavy floral and fruits, how I like it. Taste just as great. The smell translated well to the taste and had just enough sweetness and just enough bitterness. Really glad I found this one. Makes my top five IPAs up there with headhunter and jai alai. If you find this one try it and but it. Glad I had to go to Ohio for a wedding to find this.

The beer comes in a dark orange amber.

The aroma has sweet tropical and citrus. It has a literal aroma of dried apricot, peaches, and dried mango. Pineapple and oranges follow. A hint of a bready malt.

The flavor follows with a bouquet of fruits in the front. Peaches, papaya, oranges, red grapefruit juice, although not as bold as the aroma. The beer has gentle bready malt that gives the beer some sweetness. The finish is of grapefruit pith and peel and medium bitterness with lots of drying.

A medium minus body on this.

Next to Columbus IPA and Head Hunter, White Rajah won out slightly Head Hunter and then Columbus IPA. A very fruit forward IPA and definitely one of my favorites

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Golden tan/yellow, nice foamy 2 inch head and lots of sticky glass clinging lacing.

Smell - Tons of sweet floral hops, apple, orange, peach, apricot, grapefruit, pine, lemon, very tropical. A very slight malt armoa is present but really buried under the hops.

Taste - West coast citra hop kick at first sip. Smooth, floral with minimium malts. Bubblegum orange and bitter grapefruit up front. Malts are there and add some balance but not overly noticable til after a few drinks. Some added spices and slight alcohol warm round this beer out.

Mouthfeel - Its quite the mouth crusher, in a good enjoyable way. Tounge gets bitter, coated and left tingly from pine resin and such. Palette gets hops and light malt backbone. Finish is dry, bitter, yet smooth. Aftertaste is thick, bitter, and tounge has hop resin left on tounge for quite a long time.

Overall - Awesome west coast ipa made in ohio. Very easy to drink, plenty of sweet hops and done very well. Not overally easy to locate and im only 2 hours from the brewery but hopefully that will change soon. A world class beer and for the price, 9-11.99$ a six pack, very very hard to beat. Hop lovers, ipa fans, must try this.

Big thanks to Sam for this one. One of the best beers from my favorite brewery? Yes please! 12oz. bottle into a Lawson's pint.

Pours a coarse, .5 finger white head with moderate to low retention. Beer is a clear orange-goldenrod. Lacing is spotty and sparse with average cling. Average.

Nose is outstanding! Notes of citrus, mango, grapefruit, papaya and cane sugar. Very appetizing.

Opens sweet. Grapefruit, citrus, papaya, passionfruit, and other tropical flavors. Big cane sugar malt backbone. End is citrus and sap hop bitterness with some piney notes sprinkled in. Finishes bitter with a juicy, sweet and hoppy aftertaste. Very, very good.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Spritzy and bubbly in the mouth and juicy going down. FInishes messy with a sticky, lingering aftertaste. Real drinkable.

Easily one of the best IPAs I've had in a long time. Which is saying a lot in a style crowded with so many top-notch offerings. Honestly, to be expected from Brew Kettle, one of the most under-the-radar brewpubs in the US in my opinion.

The appearance is golden hay.
The head was a couple of fingers and white with a modest pour.
The aroma was citrus all the way.
This IPA is fantastic and delicious.
The mouthfeel was heavy and oily, like Ballantine IPA, but I like that.
Overall, this is a very satisfying IPA.

Poured into a standard pint. This one is super fresh, only about 10 days old. Thanks to frenchblood21 for the hookup!!

A: Like liquid gold. A shimmering golden copper color, crystal clear with a juicy, bubbly two finger white head that rapidly recedes to a quarter finger. Wonderful contrast here between crisp white head and the golden orange color. Spectacular clarity. Excellent lacing on the sides. A great looking IPA.

S: Wow, a citra bomb! Mango, pineapple, orange cream. Wave after wave of the tropical stuff assaults the nose. But it is so smooth: not a hint of booze or bitterness to be found in the bouquet. Orange zest notes are pointedly assertive here. Has to be one of the best smelling IPAs I have ever experienced. Top marks.

T: Mmmm...hop heads will be buzzing. Lots of tropical fruit, especially pineapple and orange. Pretty good malt presence too, with some sweet biscuit notes providing a solid foundation for the hops. A bit of pine resin provides an assertive bitterness through the finish, but it's very much a smooth beer. The hops here are so assertive yet they don't overwhelm. No harshness to be found. Just a smooth, creamy, hop dream. Excellent.

M: The balance and carbonation are spot on, but White Rajah might be just a little too light for it's own good. It's so delicate that the finish is almost watery because the citrus notes fade out and all you get is just a kiss of bitterness. Probably could have used just a little bit more malt to thicken things at the end. Stacked against the rest of the beer, though, it's not a big deal.

O: Brew Kettle's White Rajah is absolutely a contender for best IPA in the land. That's not to say it IS the best IPA in the land, but it can be mentioned with the likes of Russian River, Three Floyds, Kern River, Alpine, Bells, Founders, so on and so forth and not be embarrassed. This would give any one of those beers a run for its money. Fantastic beer from start to finish. Bravo, Brew Kettle!

Appearance - White Rajah is straddles the border between a straw yellow and light orange and is nearly completely clear. A large white head bursts forth and looks like a snow cap.

Aroma - The aroma is incredibly pungent and is fresh off of the West Coast. Tons of pine and tropical fruit, peaches, and a touch biscuit malt.

Taste - Just like in the nose, the hops take center stage in the flavor. The pine notes are resinous and sticky while the fruit gives it a lighter tone. Pineapple, guava, and peach are the most noticeable flavors.

Mouthfeel - Despite the depth of flavors in this beer, it is still pretty light on the palate and easy drinking. There is no hint of the almost 7% alcohol in this beer.

Closing Arguments - This was a 'diamond in the rough' for me. The Brew Kettle was a complete unknown to me outside of the praise I've heard about White Rajah, and without that praise I doubt I would've given this beer a chance. The bottle art is non-descript and doesn't really draw me towards it, but the contents of the bottle is like liquid gold. And for $2.29 a bottle? Looks like I have a few more trips to Ohio planned ahead of me.

deep orange amber, and absolutely crystal clear. There was a radiance about it that was outstanding. Tons of carbonation rippling up toward the surface, three-inch head of white foam formed on the top settled down into a nice one finger high pillow

t pungent, ripping citrus hops you could imagine. Just absolutely the freshest grapefruit smell. slightest bit of sugar on the back end sweetening it up, but otherwise this was just a hop driven monster of an IPA. dripping fresh hop taste. Really extremely sharp, crisp, and just unbelievably fresh, As it warmed some slight bready characters came out, but nothing was toppling the huge hop taste. In fact, it made a nice transformation over to a pine resin like flavor as it warmed, and got even stickier. The finish was huge, dry, and bitter, perfect.

Perfectly clear reddish-golden body with a creamy finger of yellow-white head. Just beautiful.

Nose is very much like fresh Pliny with huge citrus hops and notable pine.

Flavor is sweet, creamy citrus hops swirled onto a light malt body. Unbalanced to the hop end in the best tradition of the West Coast IPAs.

Mouthfeel is solid, yet light creaminess with a substantial hop bite on the finish.

Really just an overall success as an IPA, as well as a well crafted beer. Not a thing to dislike about this fantastic brew. Maybe it deserves all 5s, but I guess I've become a tougher grader.

Never heard of the Brew Kettle before this one, but I will seek out their other offerings.

This beer is what IPAs are about, and more. The beer pours a medium head that leaves quite a bit of lacing. This is probably the best smelling IPA I've had, as the tropical/citrus aromas are spectacular and huge. The citrus and pine flavors continue to be great, and this beer has pretty much no malt presence at all and finishes quite bitter, but that's to be expected. The mouthfeel is on the thin side, but the beer finishes clean and bitter. Overall, this is an incredibly drinkable IPA for a beer with such dominant flavors. This would make for a great session ale given the thinner body. One of these is just not enough.

big thanks to a great trader for this fresh puppy. It went from the box into the fridge and in 1 hour it was cracked and down my stomach. From a 12oz bottle it pours a see through gold color with a white. The smell is citrus and fresh fruits and hops super fresh!!! If it smells as good as it tastes I’m gonna be bummed because this is my onlt (lol). WOW, this beer is so deiciouslly balanced and you taste the fruit up front with a hop finish. The taste of this beer totally lives up to the hype of the smell!!!! Super bummed that I only have had one because I could drink this one over and over and over again. Thanks Bitter!!!

WTF!!! This is only a beer in the technical sense. In reality, it is a hop delivery liquid with only 2 main purposes; (1) To dissolve any and all tooth enamel, and (2) Put you into a lupulin coma.
I bought this on a whim and was quite surprised by this little hidden gem.
The aroma is nothing short of heaven. Citrus & mango overload the olfactory senses.
The color is quite light. Nice head & carbonation.
Taste is all about the hops. If you are looking for balance, you will not find it here!
This is a beer whose main dermographic is the quintessencial hophead.
When I die, I hope this beer is available in the afterlife.

Amber on the pour. Wow, outstanding hoppy nose. Pine and floral scents. This is a really well-balanced IPA. Floral, resiny, citrusy, dryer sheety hops are smoothed out by a thick, oozy slug of caramel malt. This is a classic Midwest take on a West Coast IPA.

Pours a crystal clear golden orange. perfect frothy white head. This beer looks incredible!
Smells hoppy and citrus heavy. Grapefruit, a touch of pine. Smells wonderful.
Tastes like it smells. The bitterness is just a hair more than I'd like. piney but also citrus heavy on the tongue. The malts are barely present but fill out the body nicely.
Nice solid mouthfeel. Rich, full, well carbonated.

Poured from bottle into Goose Island tulip style pint glass.

Appearance- Beautiful burnt orange color with a half finger of snow white head. Very nice lacing throughout the whole glass.

Smell- Grapefruit and hops explode in your nose. Lemon and lime, along with a piney woodsy aroma.

Taste- Wow is this delicious! You can totally taste the hop bomb, but it is also, at the same time, so incredibly smooth. Grapefruit and hops dominate everything else.

Mouthfeel- Unusually thick for an IPA, but so good. It's like you put a grapefruit, lemon, lime, pine cone, a bunch of hops and fresh cut grass all in your mouth at one time.

Overall- Just a fantastic beer from a brewery that consistanly makes amazing tasting beers. This is their pride and joy, and I can certainly see why.

Perfect balance of juicy hops with sweet malt. Smells fantastic and has just the right amount of carbonation.

L: Nice light copper color. About 1 1/2 finger head with lots of tiny bubbles. Well carbonated.

S: Tons of papaya, pulpy mango, ripe melon, and just bursting with tropical fruit. A FANTASTIC smelling IPA.

T: Somewhat subdued flavor from the nose. The tropical fruit on the nose is present with juicy orange, assertive lingering bitterness, and grapefruit rind.

F: Smooth, present mouthfeel with medium-heavy body. Nice carbonation keeps the beer from becoming overly cumbersome.

O: Overall, fantastic beer and one of the best IPA's from the Midwest, imo.
