Thanks to IrishColonial for bringing a growler of this over last night. It poured a clear, orange amber color with a thin white lacing scattered across the top of the beer and sticking to the edges of the glass.

The aroma shows a lot of tropical fruit notes to it. I get some peach, pineapple and grapefruit flavors all coming out of it. Great aroma overall, I love the juicy, tropical fruit flavors to it.

The taste has more of the tropical, sweeter, juicy hop flavors to it up front. Towards the finish I start to get more of a bitter, resiny, citrus rind flavor coming out. Very nice balance of sweet, juicy and bitter, resiny hoppiness.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being moderate. Overall I thought it was a great beer. I loved the juicy, tropical fruit flavors and the bitter citrus rind like flavor gave it some great balance. Very drinkable and flavorful beer overall.

Undated bottle, just delivered from OH.

Clear amber with a modest bone-colored head. Medium level of sticky lacing.

Aroma: wow! Loads of hop aroma. This is strong (hoppy) even for a West Coast style IPA. A hint of malt too, I think.

Plenty of hop flavor, with plenty of pine and citrus. This is a bit aggressive, like some DIPAs. The bitterness is under control (IBU = 70), but aside from some sweetness, the malt flavor is basically MIA.

M: relatively heavy body and syrupy, for style. Good carbonation.

O: a hop forward IPA for hop heads only.

Bottle shared by someone at Real Ale. Thanks!

A: Transparent golden orange with an inch of white sea foam. Great color, great retention, and great lacing.

S: Herbal and weedy with grassy notes. Light orange and grapefruit that are submissive to the herbal, weedy, and grassy characteristics.

T: Restrained citrus with firm herbal and grassy notes. Light malt presence.

M: Lower medium body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: Hard to say how fresh this is as it was shared by a friendly stranger. Not very bright or aromatic, and not a lot of flavor. Lots of herbal notes.

12oz bottle poured into a Pint glass.

A - Pours a clear, dark orange, almost brown with a one finger near-white head. The head fades to the edges and leaves good lacing on the glass.

S - Pine - that is it.

T - Pine, then some carmely malts. Some orange pokes through in the middle also.

D - Good carbonation and an average body.

O - Good balance between pine hops and malts.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. No bottle date. Big thanks to henryspam for this one.

Appearance - Clear yellow. Looks Iike a pilsener. Small white head. Nice lacing.

Smell - Citrus hop. Floral. Strong grainy malt. Light malts with a biscuit aroma. Spicy.

Taste - Hops, but the grainy malts come through more here. Spicy hops. Slightly bitter finish. Good clean finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Good carbonation. Grainy finish.

Overall - Solid IPA. Not world class. Other IPAs provide more flavor, but this is very clean.

Thanks to Kurmaraja for this one. Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a lightly hazy yellow-gold color with about 1/2 inch of white head that had medium retention and light lacing.

The aroma was very pine hop forward, with some light floral notes and no real malt presence. The taste was the same, mostly pine hops, with some floral notes and a very slight citrus aftertaste.

The body was thinner than I like in the style, but is fairly typical for "American" IPA's. Drinkability was good, again typical, about what one expects from an IPA. Overall, a nice, solid brew. Not really worth seeking out, but probably worth a shot if you see it.

From 64oz growler to Bruges hybrid glass on 7/12/11
*From notes

I owe a massive thanks to Señor siege06nd for bringing a couple of growlers back from Cleveland, and generously sharing one with me.

A: Filtered, rich amber. It's certainly a good bit darker then I'd expected. A generous pour yields a 2.25 finger head. The lacing here is top notch - gobs of the white sticky stuff rims the entire glass.

S: How's it go? "Juicy Fruit, it's gonna move ya!" Damn right. This is jam-packed with an epic amount of juicy, tropical fruit and freshly sliced pineapple. This bad mamajama is a certified hop bomb.

T: There's no playing around with this one. It's all hops all the way. Malt and yeast be damned! The exotic and utterly knee quivering tropical and juicy hop oil kills it on the fore, and easily surfs onto the mid. The late-mid to finish is slightly bitter. And wouldn't you know - a touch of golden malt arrives just as it all ties together on the back end.

M: Rock solid. It's creamy and perfectly carbed. Insanely drinkable.

O: The Brew Kettle's White Rajah is one of the absolute best American IPA's I've encountered. If you're looking for your next hop fix, make sure to get your hands on what The Kettle's pushin'. This is superb stuff. Seek it out at almost any cost.

Mucho, mucho thanks, John - you're the tits!

22oz bottle courtesy of thegrogbog (thanks Tim!). Apparently this won an IPA contest at Fatheads, but I also heard that Fathead's beers weren't included in the competition so this shouldn't indicate any position over Headhunter. Still a good accomplishment for the Brew Kettle though.

It pours a clear pale golden color with a thick frothy foam. Lots of dry clumps of foam on the walls of the glass too. The aroma is sort of malty for an IPA, but still has good tropical fruit type hops. A little muted though, the malts seem to have taken over while in the bottle.

Well balanced flavor, not exactly a bitter take on the style, but it makes up for it in flavor. Pretty solidly midwestern styled, tasty but unfortunately not as spectacular from the bottle as it surely must be on tap. That said, my glass emptied very quickly. An easy pounder with enough flavor to satisfy a beer lover, maybe could use a little more hops muscle for those that crave a sharper edge.

Thanks to Chris and Adam for this bottle. No freshness info but this was apparently very fresh.
Poured in to snifter.

A - Translucent medium yellow with a thin layer of off-white head.

S - A bright citrus nose. Grapefruit, pine, tangerine and a touch of mango. A very slight honey sweetness in the background.

T - An assertive bitterness with pine, orange zest, grapefruit and peach flavours and a very slight honey sweetness. Definitely a hop bomb.

M - Medium body. Sticky and oily. Light carbonation.

A - A very standard looking IPA. Clear amber and bubbles constantly floating to the top. This could be why I am not getting much lace but the head is a great 1/2 inch that settles to a thick lace ring.

S - Rich in tropical and citrus hops with not very much malt so it's fairly strong and bitter. Smell is great.

T - Kind if underwhelming actually the beer has a strong alcohol taste similar to other tropical DIPA's yet this is an IPA. It does go down smooth enough with sweet hops then balancing cracker like malts that seem to dry the palate with a mildly bittering finish. It's good but could use more balance...

M - Despite the cloying alcohol it goes down smooth. Oliy is a great descriptive Medium bodied and chewy.

Overall nothing really meriting a "world class status" but an above average IPA that could use more balance. Worth picking up if you like "Captain Lawrence DIPA"

I've been waiting to try this for a while now, hope it's as good as everyone tells me it is! 12 ounce bottle, 6.8% ABV. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear golden/orange color with an inch and a half frothy off-white head. Head retention is excellent, and there's a decent amount of lacing left on the glass. The grapefruit aroma is strong in this brew. There's also some tropical fruit, lemon peel, pine hops and a bit of bready malt. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma. The citrusy hop flavors dominate, and there's also some pine hops and a bit of bready malt flavors noticable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit creamy and has good carbonation. This is a pretty good brew, I wasn't disappointed at all. At $10.99 a 6-pack, I think it's worth every penny.

Pours a clear amber color with a fairly large white head that leaves some solid sticky lacing.

Aromas begin with a range of tropical fruit and pineapple hops which are complemented by lemon/grapefruit citrus hops. Vibrant notes of citrus oils, pith and zest.

The tastes begin with a hint of shortbread malt but then the hops take over, with an intense, pithy bitterness more prominent than the tropical fruit flavors. While the pith dominates, the tropical fruit flavors linger underneath, as does the sweet light toasted breadiness.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finish is bitter and fruity from the ample citrus forward hops which must have been added here.

Overall, this is a top notch IPA, with a nicely balanced grapefruit pith and floral tropical fruit flavor in the hop profile. Normally the standard IPA style is a miss for me because the hop bitterness is usually to resinous and overtakes the hops flavors but this is super balanced and the shortbread maltiness helps to counteract and balance the flavor profile.
