White Rajah IPA
12oz bottle into a pint glass
no born on date

Thanks to BMart for sending this want over as an extra!

A: Pours a golden yellow that fades to a paler straw yellow in the part of the glass that narrows. Its bizarre, there is a distinct separation in the color as the glass changes shape. Ive never noticed that in a beer before and Ive used this glass probably 100 times. Lots of carbonation bubbles can be seen rising to the top of the glass throughout the duration of the drink. 1 fingers width of slightly offwhite color head quickly dissipates to a thin film, but that film hangs around for a long time and leaves a fair amount of lacing.

S: Citrus and tropical fruits are the first notes I get. Lots of pineapple and mango, along with some orange and grapefruit. Subtler notes of pine and sweet malts balance it all out. Very nice.

T: Combination of sweet malts, piney bitter, and citrus are the initial flavors I get. The tropical fruit notes are present, but to a less degree than the nose implied, and the piney hop bitterness is certainly stronger. I also get some citrus rind, like orange peel and lemon zest, and the sweet malts notes are more prominent than I anticipated too, theres almost a sugary or syrupy sweetness that balances out the hops very well. Really good palate profile.

M/D: Carbonation definitely on the heavy side of the spectrum, but even with that it remains fairly smooth. Medium body, with very good drinkability.

O: Really good IPA here no doubt. Definitely worth seeking out if you are a lover of the style. Glad I was able to try this. If it were available locally it would most likely be joining my IPA rotation. Thanks again BMart!

Bottle to tulip. First beer of the evening.

A. Copper with a reddish hew. Frothy egg shell head treats to a frothy head that leaves excellent laces. Very translucent.

S. Malts and hops. Hops are mostly floral-citrus. Moderate fragrance. A little cat piss at the end.

T. Moderate hop back bone with floral hops. The hop profile goes a little toward resin but only slightly. A nice peppery tingle. A little honey in the end of the palate.

M. High carbonation. Medium body. Smooth.

O. An excellent ipa. Mostly toward the citrus side of things. Excellent clarity. No booze. I highly recommend this ale. I would love to try this on draft.

poured 12oz bottle (no date) into imperial pint glass with a 2 finger white head that left some nice lacing on the glass. Color of the beer is a clear light golden.

Aroma - citrus/grapefruit, pine

Taste - some citrus fruits, a bit of malty sweetness to balance out the big hop bite, nice bitter finish

mouthfeel - medium carb and body

overall -a very good IPA and glad I picked up a sixer when I was in Ohio. I don't imagine that I would drink it too much given the price point (11.99 / sixer ) if I had easy access to it, but it would definitely be a nice treat and I could see buying it several times a year.

Juicy citrus character, supple caramel sweetness, and dry hop bitterness carry this beer from the initial aroma until the long-linger of crisp citrusy bitterness in aftertaste. This beer astounds at every corner.

Pouring a surprisingly clear gold color, the beer is void of any hopped haze. It is capped with a fluffy white head that's somewhat reluctant to rise, retain, or lace. But a constant swirl reveals just enough foam character to adorn the glass with spider-webbing lace.

Vibrant and fiery character of citrus oils, pith, and zest- the aromas are bright with not only citrus, but also of tropical pineapple, mangoes, and apricots but in the ripest and most pulp-like way. Informed by the mild backbone of caramel, the malt gives just enough energy to the hoppy fruit character to make them seem juicy and ripe. Very clean, the beer evokes nearly giddy emotion heading into the taste.

The juicy hop character doesn't just carry over from aroma, but they intensify as the beer leaps onto the taste buds with an oily taste of orange zest, ruby red grapefruit pulp, and ripe mangoes and apricots. Again, the underpinning of caramel malt allows the fruit flavored hops to seem dripping with candy and honey. As the malt fades, the simultaneous transition to hop fruitiness to turn resiny in bitterness for a clean, crisp, and sharp bitterness of citrus pith.

Medium bodied, only the supple caramel sweetness and creamy carbonation keeps it from absolute dryness from start to finish. But as the malt proves to be fast in fleeting, the carbonation dissipates to a creamy dryness in only the way that IPAs can. Accented by the sappy dryness of hops and the moderate warmth of alcohol, the beer is decisive with its crispness and cleanliness in the end.

Obvious and direct in its lopsided balance that strongly favors the hops, the beer avoids the furniture polish-like alcohols, grassy harshness, and out-of-scale sweetness or body that cause even minor inconsistencies found in even well made IPAs. Goes to show that this is not a well made IPA; it's an instant classic!

Holy nose! I took a whiff of this thing right off the pour and it was super resin. Flavor is very much the same. Strong tones of it. Whew! Meaty this beer is (read that in a Yoda voice). Just wads of pine on top of gobs of it. And I like it. Smooth feel. I found Columbus IPA and this one at the same store and felt pretty lucky. In the end, I think this one wins the battle of the Ohio IPA heavyweights.

Appearance: Beautiful amber pour with 1/2 finger of white head and ample carbonation.

Smell: Pine, mango, citrus, bready malt. Yum.

Taste: Piney, mango hoppiness right up front. The middle has a nice malt profile, that washes over with grapefruit. The end finishes real clean and dry with a hint of piney bitterness and some grapefruit.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation and not too heavy. Paired with the juicy taste, this is very drinkable.

Overall: This is definitely a great IPA, and I feel lucky to have gotten this fresh. Definitely leans towards the west coast style with how much bitterness is going on here, but I like it; there's just enough malt to lend some balance.

A – Pours a clear light golden color with a finger of slightly off white head, phenomenal lacing and great retention.

S – Citrusy rinds, slight pine, bitter hops, light spices. Smells great

T – Really impressed. Citrusy fruit sweetness quickly transcends into a very bitter resinous/piney flavor. Aftertaste is dry bitterness. A little one dimensional but a nice bitter hop wallop is always welcome.

M – Lighter bodied, good carbonation and great bitterness makes a very refreshing brew

O – Really bitter piney hop forward brew with a nice citrus/sweet fruit flavor. Drinkable, looks fantastic and has big flavor.

Thanks to Chris and Adam for this bottle. No freshness info but this was apparently very fresh.
Poured in to snifter.

A - Translucent medium yellow with a thin layer of off-white head.

S - A bright citrus nose. Grapefruit, pine, tangerine and a touch of mango. A very slight honey sweetness in the background.

T - An assertive bitterness with pine, orange zest, grapefruit and peach flavours and a very slight honey sweetness. Definitely a hop bomb.

M - Medium body. Sticky and oily. Light carbonation.

12oz bottle
Served in a pint glass

A - It pour golden amber in color and has an inch of off white head.

S - It is loaded with citrus, mostly grapefruit, and pine. Grapefruit seems to be dominant.

T - The taste is loaded with grapefruit and pine. It starts out with great citrus flavors and finishes with resiny bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste.

M - It is oily smooth.

O - This is a delicious example of a west coast IPA. It has more pine flavors than most of the midwestern IPA's that I have tried. It's one of the better IPA's I've tried in a while.

Pours a semi-clear bronze color with a a white head of about three quarters of an inch.
The smell is of grapefruit, papaya with some caramel notes.
There is a grapefruit burst up front that runs through the mouth with the carbonation ending with a nice bitterness. The bitterness is slowly tempers during the after taste. Nice body with a soft, wet mouthfeel.

12 oz. bottle into a tulip. Cloudy, medium amber in appearance with 1/2 a finger of white, bubbly foam. Huge tropical fruit, citrus, and bubblegum notes on the nose. Light weight with a crisp, dry mouthfeel. More tropical fruit on the taste initially with a sudden transition into a bitter hop bomb. There's a good balance between the fruity sweetness and the hoppy bitterness, with this one leaning slight toward the hoppy side. I detect traces of alcohol, but not enough to be offputting. The finish is clean and assertive, and you're left with a piney, hoppy aftertaste.

Overall, very good. This is probably my favorite readily available shelf IPA next to Head Hunter.

Agressive pour leaves a3 finger, bubbly white head on this crystal clear pale gold colored beer.
Hardcore grapefruit citrus, very potent and very good.
Taste is just like the smell, big citrusy grapefruit. Not much of a malt presence here and that is ok.
Starts with a bitter punch in the mouth followed with a bitter punch in the mouth on the finish
I love the aroma and flavor of this beer. Both are very big and very bold. It smells just like it tastes.

Draft to pint. Looks great; not too dark, not too light. Smells great too; fresh hops and citrus. Tastes good; light and hoppy . Mouthfeel is excellent; the easiest drinking 7.1% beer I've ever had. I'd probably have given it a 5, but it's just so different from a normal IPA. Overall, a great beer that I'll be having again - in about 5 minutes when I get up to order another :)

I started drinking this beer after I opened a Dirtwolf. This is a much more superior beer.

A - Golden, light orange hues.
S - Smells sweet with hints of orange and pine.
T - The taste is desirable and subdued. Hoppy, light citrusy pine taste + grapefruit and goodness.
M - Outstanding mouthfeel. The beer expands inside my mouth. It feels good in there. Great.
O - This is a great all around beer. It is worthy.

I would definitely buy this if it was available in my area. I could easily see myself drinking several of these in one sitting. I like it.

Smells good, tastes amazing. A fantastic take on a citrusy, dry West Coast IPA. Crushable at 6.8%. Passing through town and glad I stopped for a pint.

A: Slightly hazy orangey amber in color. Forms a moderate sized creamy white head that reduces fairly quickly to a thick ring around the edges and a patchy surface coating. Some light lacing.

S: Aroma isn't all that strong, but what is there is quite intriguing: A juicy blend of orange, citrus, mango, and passionfruit.

T: Taste is quite nice. Starts off with a pale malt backbone. Then turns decidedly hoppy with notes of orange, tropical fruits and passionfruit followed by a light bit of pine. Finishes with a strong resin bitterness that lingers for quite a while.

M: On the lighter side of medium in body, but the strong bitterness on the finish makes this one feel heavier in the mouth. Appropriate carbonation for the style.

O: A very nice IPA showcasing a nice spectrum of hop flavors and aromas. Drinks easily.

On-tap at the Brew Kettle in Strongsville, OH...

A: Pours a light translucent straw/yellow with about one full finger of pure white head. The foam settles in a decent amount of time. There is minimal lacing as it drinks.

S: The nose is tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, passionfruit), mixed with some light citrus, and mild malt. It smells great.

T: The taste follows the nose. It's light sweetness up front and then the tropical fruits come on strong. From the middle to the finish it's all about the mango. The end of the beer really bitters up as lemon and grapefruit make an appearance.

M: Light bodied beer. It's refreshing at first sip, but the hoppy bitterness of this beer lingers for quite awhile.

O: This is a really nice IPA, and worthy of all the praise it receives. I'm a big fan of the tropical fruit notes in this beer, but I thought the finish was a little harsh. Solid stuff. I'm happy to have tried it at the place where it's made.

Beautiful golden beer, incredibly active, with a solid snow white head. Retention is fantastic, leaving behind wide flat snowy fields of lacing.

Extremely tropical hoppy aroma: mango and starfruit, with pale malt sweetness behind.

Flavor follows: this is a fruity, sweet, but fairly light IPA. Carries the hop flavors of a DIPA, with the drinkability of a single.

Pineapple, mandarin orange, mango, honey; a bit of leafy green bite to the hops, as well. Slightly dank, but certainly not the primary component of the flavor.

Very lively feel, minor sting; very drinkable, fairly light; semi-dry with just a bit of oily retention.

This is an excellent, juicy, superbly drinkable IPA. Believe the hype.

The Brew Kettle Production Works - White Raja. 6.8% ABV. 12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Look: Nice translucent orange body, and retains a one finger sized white, bubbly head shortly, before ending up as a ring of lacing.

Smell: Tons of sweet, juicy tropical fruits, with some bitter hops underneath.

Feel: Medium bodied with lots of carbonation.

Taste: Bitter hops immediately up front, unlike the aroma. The juicy orange, mango, grapefruit, and citrus/tropical provide some additional sweet flavor near the back. Within the aftertaste, some light bready malt appears.

Overall: Great combination of juicy fruits and bitter hops, with the malt coming into play within the aftertaste. Nice refreshing fruity IPA.

12oz bottle with no freshness date. Come on Brew Kettle, White Raja is certainly worthy of a bottled on date!

Pours orange in color with nice clarity. The head is off-white in color and initially stood about one finger tall. After about 5 minutes, it's settled to almost nothing. There is some pretty good lacing on the glass though.

The nose is where this beer really shines. Big juicy citrus aroma in your face. Orange, peach, white grape, and grapefruit.

Nice citrus-forward hops up front accompanied by some sweetness as well. The malt body is pretty thin allowing for the hops to shine. Not a whole lot of bitterness, and I'm actually getting a bit of the alcohol. Fruity hops and alcohol linger after the swallow.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

An above average Ipa overall.

Morey's Bottom Line: A really nice beer from the Brew Kettle. The nose is elite, the taste is above average. Very close to being a top tier IPA.

Almost feel bad getting this review in as I am ultimately cutting into my own supply of this stuff!

People mention "fatigue" on a particular style often on this site and i feel like that is where I have been with IPAs, after a while, they all start to taste very similar and there isn't much differentiation.

However, when cracking open one of these it is like joy and excitement of this style returns again.

Clear pouring, clear fresh sharp pungent tropical citrus. This beer literally awakened me from my IPA slumber. It is a definite must try.

The hype is only going to build on this one, so I better stock up while I can.

Exceptional beer!
