Impressive color gets me excited despite a lackluster head with whispy lacing. Nose is big grapefruit with a little nose stinging spice as well. Taste is everything all at once - grapefruit bitter, sweet malt and piney finish. Medium body and overly dry. Very nice beer.

I really can't fault this beer for nearly anything. Delicate floral, juicy, hops with a hint of pungency on the finish. Balanced towards the bitterness. Very soft pleasant malts and smooth as. It's a pale yellow, with a white head. Really nice. Perhaps light for the winter, but probably the only thing a person could want in the heat.

Smells like buttery popcorn. Like the sticky movie theater floor beneath my feet. Nice. Has a sweet biscuity flavor. Lemon zest. Bready. Unique IPA! My kind of malt bomb.

Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

This beer is just crafted so well. It isn't all citrus and fruit juice like a lot of the descriptions convey. There is a biscuity, crackery crispness to this beer than makes it stand out from your typical IPA. I realize that may sound weird, but what's even weirder is their All 4 One session IPA has these notes, but even more prominently.

In the end, it may not look as expected, it may smell a little jarring with more than just your typical hop bomb or citrus, but when all of these pieces come together, it's truly a refreshing, unique brew.

Dark amber color, slightly cloudy. Full aromatic hop nose -- sets the stage for a taste that does not disappoint. Strong citrus hops, grapefruit flavor -- exactly what I hope to find in a WC IPA. A nice bitterness that lingers long after swallow. Appropriate carbonation.

One of my favorites. Even though it is not available locally, I try to maintain a small stock of this gem in my beer fridge. Props to the bartender at Brews in Granville, Ohio who recommended this one.

Consumed 12/3/15

A: Golden orange with honey highlights - nicely clear, some light chill haze - pours with a medium sized, bright white head, fades to a few wisps, maintains a small collar, leaves some nice streaks of lacing

S: In a word, citrus - well-rounded citrus aroma, with some orange slices, grapefruit flesh, citrus zest, pith - very floral , some herbal notes - big, resinous pine notes - no malts to speak of, other than a touch of light bread - some alcohol aroma

T: Resinous, with straight-up hops - orange and grapefruit flesh, oil, rind, and pith - floral and herbal, with a touch of grass - very resinous, with some leafiness - above-average level of bitterness, straight-up aspirin - lightly earthy but mostly clean -touch of pale malts and some crackers - some booze flavor

M: Medium body, oily smooth, medium carbonation, finishes with some more oil

O: Wait, White Rajah isn't a Witbier?

I thought I already reviewed this one a few year ago, but I have no record of it. Reviewing this is a bit odd because it's decidedly straightforward. This is an aggressively hopped IPA with a complete emphasis on the hops. The alcohol is oddly apparent to me, but otherwise it's very nice.

Pours clear fizzy orange, with a huge tropical nose. Lots of apricot, mango, pineapple essence anchored by zesty earthy hop spice that tickles the nose. Flavor is a bit sweet at first, but balances out with some spicy hop bitter by the end. Feel is smooth with appropriate bubbly fizz. Great example of the style.

F: clean and crisp bitter bite

O: really well done. Good balance. Def a west coast style

Exceptional ipa. All the big fruit flavors of hops dedicated to doing so, in a fashion that wants to make you drink more of this berry esque ipa.

With just a bit less abv than head hunter ipa and nearly the same impact of fruity hoppy delish stuff this has won the coat rack spot for my ipa in the frig.

This brewery is a staple in Cleveland. And it is where you can go to brew your own. Weird, righteous and outstanding.

White Rajah - The Brew Kettle Taproom & Smokehouse / Production Works. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's head is one finger thick and off-white , with secular lacing, and a clear straw gold body.

I smell a very generous, yet non-offensive helping of the citrus and tropical hops described on the labeling.

Tastes like much of the same described above, but with a nice mid-palate snap. Clear, bright, and refreshing. I think this taste is just on the line between IPA and Imperial IPA.

The mouthfeel I'm getting from this beer is smooth and crisp. Again, the bite appears and has a responding tingle on the tongue as a result. I'm starting to wonder if other people have experience...

Overall, I'll give White Rajah - The Brew Kettle Taproom & Smokehouse / Production Works a 4.75. This is an extremely solid offering from this Ohio brewery. Again, I can't get over the unique mouthfeel.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip pint. The brew appears a pale golden copper color with white cap. Smells hoppy with citrus and pith/pulp character. Tastes bitter and rindy with a mild fruity character, resinous and somewhat floral. This is medium in body with modest carbonation. Overall pretty nice, easy drinking stuff.

White Rajah has a medium, white head, a semi-opaque, orange-gold appearance, some bubbles, and not so heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of very citrus-type hop oil and white bread, and the flavor is of the same, with citrus rind and pith. It is not too bitter or sugary. Mouthfeel is medium, and White Rajah finishes mostly dry and mild.

Good copper color, nice head, laces the glass. Not as bitter as I like but great flavor, smooth. One of the better non west coast ipas I have tried so far.

Pours a semi-clear bronze color with a a white head of about three quarters of an inch.
The smell is of grapefruit, papaya with some caramel notes.
There is a grapefruit burst up front that runs through the mouth with the carbonation ending with a nice bitterness. The bitterness is slowly tempers during the after taste. Nice body with a soft, wet mouthfeel.

Picked up a from Jungle Jim's in Fairfield. Pours an orange gold with a light head that lingers. Aroma is slightly dank and piney in the best way. Taste...wow. Such a crisp IPA. No trace of misplaced alcohol, sticky resin that coats your palette or too heavy bitterness. So damn drinkable. The malt injects a nice level of sweetness but doesn't try to balance the profile - there's no need to pull the flavor out of the hoppy sweet spot. The clean, crisp taste is what sets it apart; how this beer finishes fairly dry like a saison is beyond me. Outstanding beer.

Hazy gold with voluminous heads.
Smells vaguely hoppy and malty.
This is great! Really lush and balanced and fruity. Clementines and passion fruit. Highly enjoyable IPA. Highly recommended!

Appearance - White Rajah is straddles the border between a straw yellow and light orange and is nearly completely clear. A large white head bursts forth and looks like a snow cap.

Aroma - The aroma is incredibly pungent and is fresh off of the West Coast. Tons of pine and tropical fruit, peaches, and a touch biscuit malt.

Taste - Just like in the nose, the hops take center stage in the flavor. The pine notes are resinous and sticky while the fruit gives it a lighter tone. Pineapple, guava, and peach are the most noticeable flavors.

Mouthfeel - Despite the depth of flavors in this beer, it is still pretty light on the palate and easy drinking. There is no hint of the almost 7% alcohol in this beer.

Closing Arguments - This was a 'diamond in the rough' for me. The Brew Kettle was a complete unknown to me outside of the praise I've heard about White Rajah, and without that praise I doubt I would've given this beer a chance. The bottle art is non-descript and doesn't really draw me towards it, but the contents of the bottle is like liquid gold. And for $2.29 a bottle? Looks like I have a few more trips to Ohio planned ahead of me.

On tap at the CBC restaurant.

Smells good, tastes amazing. A fantastic take on a citrusy, dry West Coast IPA. Crushable at 6.8%. Passing through town and glad I stopped for a pint.

Shoutout to Eziel for this trade!
Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
LOOK: Pours with 3 amazing finger's worth of off-white foam that dissipates into 2 finger's worth after two minutes. Rising bubbles are subtle. Orange-yellow in color. Lacing is high and thick.
SMELL: So fruity! Strong aromas of apricots, peaches, mangos, oranges, tangerines, and papayas. Beneath the fruit aromas, lie subtle sweet and bready malt and piney hop aromas.
TASTE: Strong fruit flavors enter initially along with mild piney hop flavors. Subtle sweet bready malts enter immediately after as fruit flavors persist, but piney hop flavors grow much stronger.
FEEL: Medium-bodied with hints of carbonation (I love that low carbonation!!!). This is ridiculously smooth and creamy. And unlike any IPA I have ever had, the finish wasn't overly dry, just moderately.
NOTE: This was such a close second to Yellow Rose in the IPA category. I'm glad I got multiples in the trade.

12 oz bottle, no date. Bought warm in Ohio but in the fridge the last week. Clear golden yellow color, fairly pale. White head. Big hop aroma and flavor, fruity, floral. All hoping the taste, no malt flavor at all, I'd like more balance. Thinner mouthfeel, I'd prefer more body.

L: Nice light copper color. About 1 1/2 finger head with lots of tiny bubbles. Well carbonated.

S: Tons of papaya, pulpy mango, ripe melon, and just bursting with tropical fruit. A FANTASTIC smelling IPA.

T: Somewhat subdued flavor from the nose. The tropical fruit on the nose is present with juicy orange, assertive lingering bitterness, and grapefruit rind.

F: Smooth, present mouthfeel with medium-heavy body. Nice carbonation keeps the beer from becoming overly cumbersome.

O: Overall, fantastic beer and one of the best IPA's from the Midwest, imo.

Poured into a snifter. Hazy amber color, smallish white head. Aromas of grapefruit and resin, but more muted than I expected. Taste was bold citrusy bitter hops with a clean dry finish. An outstanding west coast IPA but I expected a bit more - not sure about the freshness of this one.

Good ipa with a great nose to it but I feel the malt bill takes away from it a bit in the taste. Maybe it was a bit too hyped up in my brain but it wasn't quite the stud that I thought it would be. STill a good ipa but there are so many great ones out there now & this seems to be a step behind

Favorite Ohio single IPA period. Great hop forward punch but light with a light malt backbone that allows the tropical juicy hops to shine. Would always grab a six pack when in the area!
