330ml brown bottle purchased from Leura Cellars.

Pours with a massively frothy head despite a gentle pour, almost escaping from the oversized pint-glass I poured it into. Colour is a slightly murky golden-orange hue. Head retains its consistency at least, even though it's still a bit insane throughout. Light body and some fine streams of carbonation. Apart from the overt head, it looks pretty good.

Nose is clean and bright, with some slightly herbal overtones. As it warms, there's a bit of green pepper as well. From the hop varieties they list on the bottle, I would have expected a bit more citrus, but it's still very pleasant.

Taste is similar, but here there's a disconnect between the dry malty notes, and the hops, which are rather biting around the edges. It's quite dry in places, and it makes the hops a bit dominant in a way that loses balance. Body is light as well.

Overall, I'm not a huge fan, but maybe it's because it's a fairly standard beer from the brewery who has set themselves up as Australia's enfants terribles. It's okay overall, but only okay. (1,078 characters)

Bottle: standard 330mL dark brown bottle, a decent label - certainly not Moon Dog's best.

Appearance: pours out a murky orange-amber with a giant head. I've not had many that explode like this before. I got about half a finger of beer out of a full glass on the first gentle pour.

Aroma: quite a light and basic aroma for an IPA - some citrus, spice and something floral or earthen.

Taste: again quite basic - an earthen fug dominates, with some citrus and floral hops. I thought this was meant to be an IPA??

Aftertaste: the flavours do linger somewhat - definite earth, resin and some hop bitterness. If anything, I would say this beer is simply boring.

Mouth feel: the body is light, as is the carbonation. I think this is the beer's undoing - not enough flavour, and not enough complexity due to the lack of body. Disappointing.

Overall: Moon Dog reminds me of Matso's and Parrotdog - far too expensive and a bit of a gamble. While their Wet Nurse, Henry Ford's and Love Tap are great, but the majority are just plain ordinary. Add a price of AU$110 for a case of 24 x 330mL, and Moon Dog is really becoming too much of a gamble for me. (1,146 characters)

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting mousse-like head.
Nose shows lovely sweet clean malt with a cookie dough-like hint, musk sticks, fruity confectionery and mango/paw paw/rockmelon. Lovely.
Toned down flavours, some sweet clean malt, grapefruit, pine and bready notes leading to an aggressive sharp bitterness.
Carbonation is a bit over the top. (349 characters)

The Jukebox is the best of the Ales, that I have tried, of the Moon Dog range and is something that's worth picking up or getting a pint of if its available.

Pouring a deep copper colour, giving off a strong sweet floral aroma, that wills you into consuming, not that you need any extra incentive.

A medium bodied IPA that packs a good punch, well more of a fierce jab, at 7.0% this beer is not exactly for those trying the IPA style for the first time.

Big hops on the front with strong floral flavours coming through, strong notes toffee on the mid-palate, and a bitter finish you have, this is a richly flavoured beer.

This is a big beer and like a lot of IPA's not exactly something you could sit on all night, still highly drinkable! (744 characters)

Pours a murky apricot hue with a creamy two finger head and clingy lacing everywhere, the smell is perfumey floral hops along with pine and fruit salad, the mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated and super sessionable with tastes of fruit salad,a touch of pine, some light toffee and finished with a super citrus bitterness and overall a nice drop that's very sessionable cheers. (380 characters)

From Jims's

A - clear amber body, puffy pillowy one finger head. Fades to ring of lace.

S - very very Moon Dog. Horse blanket, and sour.

T - more horse blanket, funk, and under all that are grapefruit and some pine. Bitter and dry finish, well into Wild Ale territory.

M - tart, refreshing, zesty.

O - ok, so the keen reader will note that this review is at odds with other reviews, however, not at odds with Moon Dog style. Ah well... Maybe an infected bottle, and certainly not IPA to style. Enjoyable anyways!! (518 characters)

I did enjoy this IPA very much, but if there were one word to describe this IPA.. i'd use "different"... It calls itself an American IPA but it is very far from it, IMO.. that is not to say it is bad, but I think the only thing it shares in common with an AIPA is its high gravity. Having tried a number of American style IPAs from the States and Australia (and england), this one is certainly different.

Look:
A cloudy dark straw-yellow/orange colour, not something i'd expect from an IPA, where i'd expect a darker amber colour, alarm bells were ringing at this point, because i've tried a few "IPAs" that had the same colour and were utterly dissappointing.
Smell:
Whilst notes of citrus, lemon rind and earth were in there, it was dominated by this lager-esque malty smell (for example this smell dominates Corona and Singha).. one again alarm bells were ringing. The smell was akin to another Moon Dog brew, their Double Lager.. and I'm expecting the taste to be along those lines... here goes.
Taste:
Now.. here's where-in the surprises lay.. very different to an IPA /but/ in the same token, complex and even somewhat peculiar in its own way. While the notes you'd expect from an AIPA are very minor, e.g. Pine Needle, Dry Bitterness, Pineapple.. it dominates with some other unique notes that are somewhat unexpected, Apple, Licorice, Biscuity Malts.. very surprising. The Malt flavours (which I sensed in the Nose) were the distinguishing characteristic, it was almost like a Bock or Moon Dog's own Double IPA.. I have a feeling what they got wrong here was Ale Fermenting this beer and marketing it as an IPA, the Malt and Hop Profiles would be better suited to a Bock.
Feel:
An un-easy combination of thick Double-IPA viscosity and lower carbonation, here i'd reiterate my suggestion that the profile be fermented as a lager.

Overall I enjoyed it but probably won't be having it again.. it was surprisingly different.. (1,931 characters)

Very average beer. Doesn't taste like an IPA. Tastes like old wet cardboard. Drink something else. (98 characters)
