Was glad to see this on growler fills at cellarbrations as wanted to try it and its not bottled so abit of a suprise and it pours a dark dirty murky apricot hue which leaves a three finger head and lacing everywhere its weird looking for an Altbier but thats Moondog for you i spose, the smell is apricots, bananna, cinamon,a touch of peated malts and candied citrus,on taste i get the candied citrus first up followed by some alcohol heat then banannas, sweet caramel, marzipan, stewed apricots and the finish is nice and dry and overall its alright but i wouldnt go out of my way for again as its very one way and if you want a nice normal definition of the style you would not like this as its not your normal Altbier.

On-tap at Mrs. Parma's during Good Beer Week. This was a one-off smoked altbier designed to match with the venue's one-off bratwurst parma for the week.
Cloudy, but not opaque deep russety brown. Head is an inconsistent off-white. Some up-and-down lacing. Solid body that feels heavy but actually swirls quickly at the edges.
Nose is crisp and grainy, overlaid with some estery banana characters, not much smoke, but the hint of it once you've tasted it. Pretty light really, but with some potential altbier characteristics.
Taste is lightly smoky on the front, with an increasing acrid bitterness that eventually melds into a sharp phenolic and boozy astringency towards the back. Light feel leaves this brutally open and unbalanced on the palate, leaving a truly sharp unpleasantness on the back.
Harsh, too heavy in some respects and really uneasantly unbalanced. It hits you after a while—the astringency on the back really kills it and moved it towards being undrinkable.
Another experiment from Moon Dog. Hey, that's what they do, right?
