Pours deep amber with a fading head.
Nose shows big fruity hops, lots of pear, peach and floral notes. Also some sweet caramel and crystal malt.
A fair bit of malt in the flavours too, along with lots of fruity and piny hops and an aggressive finish of alcohol and bitterness.
Could use more carbonation. Body feels overly thick.
A bit too boozy.

A good crack at doing something slightly different with the lager style, with some nice flavours coming through.

A biscuity/toffee/caramel taste came through with some pepper/spice. Also had a creamy like taste and mouthfeel. At back of palate and near end of glass, a distinct alcohol taste was present.

Lager isn't a style I drink too often but a good attempt by moondog. However, not my favourite from Moon Dog.

Bottle: standard brown 330mL bottle, funky Moon Dog-style craft label. Nice.

Appearance: pours a clear amber in colour with a fluffy white head that drops quickly to a decent film. Great lacing down the glass.

Aroma: a very strong combination of earthen characteristics, and leafy / grass hops. Some malts in the background.

Taste: I am actually really impressed with the amount of flavour in this beer for a supposed 'lager'. Again mostly vegetal and floral hops coming through quite sharply with some light sweet biscuit malts.

Aftertaste: works out well - a wonderful hop bitterness hangs about for quite a time. This comes across as more of an IPA rather than a lager.

Mouth feel: a light- to- moderate body with a high carbonation. Very nice, and carries the flavours very well.

Overall: a pretty darn good beer, not sure it comes across as a lager however. Seems more like an IPA to me - plenty of hop bitterness rounded out by a light malt sweetness.

330ml bottle purchased from Camperdown Cellars in Stanmore.

Pours a hazy orange colour, thick and ripe with a fine, slightly sudsy head of white. Carbonation is a little listless, but fine in itself, which helps in forming such a fine head. The colour is a bit heavy, but otherwise it looks reasonably good.

Nose is pleasant, but perhaps lacking the pure, unadulterated punch of intensity that it could have brought. Instead, there's a restrained crispness giving off a little crisp green vegetation and a suggestion of citrus. Some ragged malty tones come through as well, but the crisper hops give it an icy quality: as if the true sweetness and graininess of the malt is frozen out of the bulk of the aroma. Not bad.

Taste is light and crisp, and rather pleasant all up. Clean entry with some foggy hop oil aromatics before a light (albeit slightly empty) mid-palate. On the back is a sharp and conclusive vector of hops, which crisps up the feel a little at the expense of shortening the back-palate. By the end, it's a little dry: dry rather than refreshing. Alcohol throughout is well hidden, however.

Overall, I thought this was pretty good. In some sense perhaps, it's tame for a Moon Dog beer, but only insofar as it doesn't really do anything very experimental. In fact, there's still plenty of punch and flavour to it, and it maintains a level of punky charm that fits it in with the rest of the range.

Bottle from Slowbeer. Reviewed from notes.

Blood orange, hazy, with a modest head that falls over a minute or so to a film.

Candied muscovado sugar, dried apricots and some almost nice fruity hop notes, but with a plasticy element attached to them. Mild booze.

The booze and plastic muscle in hard, if not quite to the extent of rendering it undrinkable.

Hot and harsh.

Not one of Moondog's best.

From Beer Cartel. No BB. Jeez I get fed up of typing that.

I like Moon Dog. I really do. But when they push the envelope and take risks, then sometimes it's gonna fall flat, and sometimes really really flat.

Choc malt??

Hm.... It looks ok, filmy not sudsy head, light amber body.

But there is nothing save malt on the nose, and that really bitter non-entity of a taste that I presume is the choc malt. Hope are bitter and earthy but in a bad way. Body is OK with reasonable carbonation for style,

But all in all, it just doesn't taste very nice. Do I need to say more?

Hazy amber colour. Nice foamy white head. Half-decent head retention.

Very sweet malt with quite a fruitiness. Almost sweaty like in the house Belgian yeast these guys like to use. Quite interesting but also out of place.

The flavour continues the interesting fruity hop profile. Lots of sweaty NZ hops along with a sweet malt profile that suggests Belgian flavour rather than Imperial Pilsner.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation.

I'm not entirely convinced this works. They have tried hard to deliver something original but it falls back to a house flavour that isn't all that pleasant. I wish this were less sweet and used some hops that are a bit cleaner and fresher.

Unusual take on a imperial pils. Has a nose that I thought was belgian yeast (from their other beers), but must be the odd mix of hops. Bit of a smokey edge on the palate, must be from the pinch of choc malt. Fairly easy drinking, big alcohol hidden well, but im not sold on it. Not clean enough, too muddled.

Pours a hazy golden copper hue with a creamy three finger head and lacing everywhere, the smell is boiled candy, guava, blood oranges, berries and off milk, the mouthfeel is creamy and over medium bodied with moderate carbonation and has tastes of bitter blood oranges, guava, berries,a touch of toffee, sherbet and finished with a fruity citrus hop bitterness which is very bitter and overall i like it and suprisingly the chocolate malt in this works would drink again cheers.
