Got this one from BobbyHeenen. Cheers!

From a bottle into a snifter
Brewed at Kissmeyer Brewing
IBU 46
SRM 16
Malts: Pale, carahell, caraaroma, honey and dextros
Hops: Warrior, horizon, cascade and amarillo
Yeast: Abbey Mr. Special
Aged in ex Shiraz and Point Noir barrels

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, slightly looser, off-white head with decent retention. Clear burnt umber in color with medium levels of carbonation for the style. Head fades to a partial wisp and foamy ring. Decent splotchy wisp remains but leaves no lacing down the glass. Good looking for the style.

SMELL: Nice red wine and oak aromas on the nose, Toffee, caramel, light coconut and vanilla with hints of melon as well. Aromatic and complex.

TASTE: Lots of flavor here. Boozy as well. Red wine, oak, with some spicy alcohol up front. Malt sweetness and more alcohol through the middle into a bold and lingering finish of oak, wine and grapes, toffee and caramel sweetness, vanilla and a bit of melon and molasses. Some red fruit in there as well. Quite flavorful with lots of complex, sweet flavors and notes from the wood aging. Very well balanced and layered.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. A little prickly on the palate, goes down okay with a bit of a burn at the swallow and finishes a touch sticky. Some heat lingers. Not quite creamy enough for top marks, but okay.

OVERALL: This was really nice. Really liked this. Piles of complex, interesting and enjoyable sweet flavors on this one, making it one worth pondering over long period. Or perhaps over large volumes, if you've got enough and are up for the challenge. The alcohol and heat is perhaps the only thing keeping it back from being other-worldly, though that isn't really that big of an issue. A creamier feel would help the candidacy as well. An excellent barleywine that I would love to drink again. Thanks again for the brews Bobby!

Bottle: standard 330mL dark brown bottle, incredibly funky label - more a piece of art, in fact. A typically wonderful package from Moon Dog.

Appearance: pours a murky brown-orange with barely-visible fine carbonation. Very little head to speak of that dissipates rapidly to a thin ring. Very thick in body. Looks... interesting.

Aroma: strong, rich aromas of boozy sweet syrup caramel and molasses. Heavy fruits and some sherry.

Taste: a strong - almost overpowering - caramel malt with those heavy fruits tagging along. Some alcohol trailing.

Aftertaste: the alcohol becomes warming and tart on the finish with a lovely sweet sugar - gave me goose bumps. Very nice.

Mouth feel: quite heavy in body with a moderate fine carbonation. Quite sweet and smooth.

Overall: a fairly one-dimensional barleywine dominated by strong caramel malts, but there are enough other flavours backing to make this very drinkable. A bit too expensive though for the reasonable quality - I'll stick with Moylan's.

Pours murky brown with a small head.
Nose shows rich sweet syrupy malt with some soft oxidative notes, a little booze, gingerbread, spicy phenols and a red wine note. Lovely.
Sweet flavours. Oxidative notes, brown sugar, woody notes, soft tannins and a strong port character. Some booze but it's reasonable well integrated.
Nice syrupy body and light carbonation.
Great stuff.

Moving to a lower intensity beer consumption schedule means that one values the beer which is consumed much more. There is much less time for poor beer. Fortunately, this is not a poor beer.

Dark murky, red-brown colour. Small off-white head but decent head retention for what there is.

Fruit, malt, barrel and booze. Massive dried fruit profile with raisins and dates. The sweetness is intense from the caramelised sugar. Almost cola like. The caramel and vanilla of the barrel is great and there is a touch of oak. Really good integration of aromas and flavours which all come together cohesively.

On the palate it is full and thick. Hard to believe it is 14%. The carbonation is nice too.

A really great beer. Lots of complex flavour and well controlled alcohol. A stunning Barleywine and thank goodness the Moon Dog guys managed to stop themselves from adding peated malt to this.

After I tell everyone I still have this in my fridge I get the same response "mate what are you doing drink it" well tonight it's time and it pours a dirty bronzed honey amber hue which leaves no head but some leggy lacing here and there which just yell I'm very boozy and yeah it looks like 14%,the smell is bourbon,Shiraz, oak,a slight herbalness and a Ton of Redgum honey, the mouthfeel is full bodied with low carbonation but suits and has tastes of strong Redgum honey and man is it strong and its briefly interrupted by red wine, caramel and toffee kept real by a nice hoppy bitterness and rounded out with that predominant honey and overall it's a nice sipper where the barrel ageing was timed well but if you don't like honey this one ain't for you cheers.

Collaboration with kissmeyer
In Pinot noir and Shiraz barrels

A-- murky orange brown, off white head that falls to a collar. Some lacing and good legs.

S-- thick and juicy dark fruits, strawberry, caramel and touches of wine and oak. No hint of the ABV. Two or three snifs and could tell this was a winner.

T-- strawberry jam, plumb, caramel, soft cherries, wine and oak. Tasty. Quite tasty. Barrel notes are soft and well balanced with base beer.

M-- big feel, low carbonation. Sweet and sticky. Almost 15%??? No way.

O-- exceptional beer. Not a fan of moon dog but this is sublime stuff. Best thing to come out of here in a long time.
