Mt Whitney XPA (Xtra Pale Ale) is our take on a non-traditional American pale ale. Our XPA has a very low use of colored malts which makes this pale finish dryer and accentuates the hop profile and aroma to the fullest. Traditional Cascade hops are at its core, but we feature “XTRA” amounts of Citra, Amarillo, and CTZ in the back end and in the dry hop for a modern take on this classic style. The idea with this newer breed of Pale is to have a year round session option that is hoppy and can appeal to both our classic and modern craft beer drinker.

Decent Pale Ale. Very well crafted. Hop bill just didn't work for me. Too grassy.

On nitro tap at BC's Pizza & Beer
A: Pours slightly hazy dep golden amber with a soft off white head that settles to a dense layer and leaves some nice lacing.
S: Tropical fruit, citrus, pine, herbal notes, a little crackery malt, and a touch of sweetness.
T: Citrus and tropical fruit, orange, grapefruit, passion fruit, a hint of pineapple, plenty of pine, faint herbal notes, crackery malt, and a touch of light caramel sweetness.
M: Medium body, mild carbonation from the nitro.
O: First time I've seen this one on nitro tap and in all honesty I don't think it did the beer any favors. On it's own it's a fine pale ale, but it really could use some carbonation bite. I will definitely retry this one in one way or another with CO2.

A: Super citrusy fruity hops, followed by light malt.
A: Golden color, totally clear with a puffy white head that has adequate retention. Some lacing is evident in the glass.
T: Big citrusy, slightly tropical fruity hops followed by light malt. There is a light hop bitterness on the finish.
M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Wow, this beer is quite tasty. Really expressive, big citrusy-fruity hoppy aroma and flavor that’s light and easy to drink.

Bottle of unknown age into a tulip glass. Nothing really great nor bad about this beer. Appealing golden color with minimal haze. Mute citrus nose with faint hints of something I think could be juniper. Both the taste and mouthfeel could be better. Perhaps it's an old bottle, but there's nothing here that would lead me to try again unless I know it's uber fresh.

Bottling code of 15415. I'd assume that's June 3rd.
Appearance - Pours hazy and golden yellow with a white, finger width head. Good retention before breaking down to a thin layer of surface suds. Lace leaves a nice sheeting along the length of the glass.
Smell - Citrusy with a bit of pine. Grainy undertone.
Taste - On the hoppier side, but displays nice balance. Citrus with a touch of pine dankness. Malts come through boldly with bready sweetness and a grainy bite. A bit of leafy character comes through mid-taste. Finishes with a light, lingering pith bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Finish is crisp and dry.
Overall - Decent pale. If I'm reading the bottling date correctly, it has about 4 months of age on it, and I fear the hops may have begun to degrade. I'd certainly be open to try this again with a fresher bottle.
