The unmistakable characteristics of this Bavarian Weissbier are achieved with a yeast that is decidedly fruity and phenolic. You may note clove, nutmeg or even vanilla and/or banana-like aromas and flavors.

500mL bottle
A - very thin white head dissipates quickly atop a hazy pale golden colored ale
S - typical hefe nose with clove, banana, cracked wheat, yeast, faint lemon pith
T - wheat, yeast, banana, clove, bubblegum, earthy hops
M - thinner body, moderate carbonation, finishes slightly tart and fairly crisp
O - good American version of a great German style, but I prefer some of the traditional German brewed ones more. (422 characters)

Poured from 500 ml bottle into nonic pint. No visible bottle date.

A: Pours light yellow with 2-3 finger soapy white head that settles quickly to a thin cap. Some light lacing.

S: Banana, clove, nutmeg, bubblegum, and cracker malts.

T: Bready malts with a hint of banana sweetness. Some grassy funk, and faint spices - clove, and nutmeg. I get a little bubblegum flavor in the finish,

M: Medium body with a good amount of carbonation. I was expecting it to be a light lighter.

O: Easy drinking nice beer. I might have preferred the spices to be a bit more pronounced, but enjoyable still. (601 characters)

Second in this line of new beers to my area. Love a well-made Weizen, hope I've found a new choice.

Trademark .5 liter bottle, mysterious date code missing from the bottle neck.

L -- Hazy, golden, light peach color with a dense white head that thins quickly, but revives easily.

S -- Sweet barley malt and wheat malt, clove spiciness, light banana and light DMS.

T -- Good bready maltiness up front, light clove spiciness following with light vanilla in balance, light wheat graininess in the finish, spicy hops and a light tart citrus character linger through the aftertaste.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a light to medium-light body.

O -- A very nice take on the style with a clove phenolic that is very reminiscent of the Schneider beers. This will be a great patio beer for the coming summer. (812 characters)

This was pretty good, but not the best of the style. It just seems like it is currently about 7/10 of what this style should be. If you want a milder version, this would be it.

Would drink again. This is very drinkable. (221 characters)

Appearance: Pours like a hefe should, with a massive head topping the hazy goldenstraw liquid; sticks like a champ and leaves clumpy lacing

Smell: Wheat bread tang, vanilla, bubblegum and green banana

Taste: Wheat bread with a tart edge, with the vanilla influence becoming rather distinct; bubblegum develops in the middle, along with the green banana tones; grassy elements arrive after the swallow

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This beer has all of the elements of a classic hefe and then some but I can't say that I am really enjoying it; I don't like the mouthfeel and it lacks the clove character to complement the fruity esters (680 characters)

The first in a series of beers drank during a get together the other night at a friends house. Side poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - I do like the packaging, name is unique, should be interesting. Pours a very light, hazy yellow with a nice, two finger head that leaves a bit of lacing and hangs around for a couple of minutes.

Smell - Has your standard hefeweizen characteristics of crackers and a bit of fruitiness. There was a strong banana esters, phenols, and clove smell to it as well, making it unmistakable as to what they were going for.

Taste - Underwhelming, to say the least. The banana and cloves are certainly present, and it has a decent bready balance to it, but it just wasn't all there to me. There is a little bit of spice in there as well.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied, finishes clean and smooth. I liked this part of the beer probably the best. Went down real easy. Finished with a zip of clove and pepper.

Overall - This isn't a bad beer, but it certainly isn't anything to go pay a premium price for either. There are plenty of other good weizens out there for the same money. It was just a little underwhelming, felt like there was something missing. Condor recommended and approved, but I wouldn't make a special trip to the store for it. (1,288 characters)

Pours a hazy pale straw. Haze dissipates some but not completely. Very small whitish head which disappears immediately. Continuous stream of bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass.

Banana is the main smell I notice. Some clove and straw as well. Not much going on here.

Banana again for the flavor. A bit of clove, lemon, and orange. A bit of cream and vanilla at the end.

Nice moderate to medium mouth feel. Some crispness from the carbonation which is medium+. Smooth and easy drinking with no alcohol presence.

Decent German-style wheat beer. Definitely a beer you could drink multiple pf. Needs more oomph in the nose. (642 characters)

A - Pours an extremely pale yellow. Its almost white looking its so pale. This beer is extremely hazy. Its has a very large three finiger bubbly white head with great retention. Lacing was ok

S - A very floral smelling beer. Has a strong earthyness to it as well. Nice yeast kick mixed in.

T - Very pleasant flavor. Fruits and yeast. Good ctirus kick.

M - a light bodied beer. Very smooth. Refreshing as well. Slick feeling in the mouth

O - Great beer by Urban Chestnut. This is usually not my style but I really enjoyed this one. I will pick up again next time I am in STL. (579 characters)

Pours a slightly hazed gold with 1" of eggshell colored head (vigorous pour). No head retention or lacing

S: Cloves & green banana

T: Follows the nose, some ripe banana, white grapes & pears along some juicy fruit up front. More juicy fruit & pears, plus a little tartness & dryness as this warms, green banana & cloves as well. Finishes with some dryness, juicy fruit & cloves

MF: Medium bodied with lively carbonation

Easy drinker, fairly spot on for the style, easily the best beer I've had from these guys (514 characters)

Poured from the bottle a hazy yellow gold with one finger of fizzy white head. A bit of thin wet lacing left behind.

Aroma of lemon zest, clove, yeast, and cracker.

The taste was tart apple, banana, clove, white pepper, yeast, and cracker.

Light-to-medium bodied and sticky with a sharp carbonation.

I could drink these all day. Well done, Urban Chestnut! (359 characters)

Had this poured out of one of Urban Chestnut' euro-bottles. Color is a really nice looking hazy straw color with about three fingers of very fluffy head. Aroma is spice and yeast with a hint of banana and citrus. Taste continues with the spice, citrus and yeast. Mouthfeel is very crisp and effervescent due to the high amount of carbonation. Overall, this is one of my favorite Bavarian style Weissbiers that I've had. Will definitely be having some more. Prost! (463 characters)

Hazy yellow straw in color. A fingernail of white foam rests on top. Banana ester aroma is very compelling. The mouthfeel is a bit thin for me. The taste starts of with the wheat and banana flavoring. The finish is brisk, but fulfilling. I like the look and the aroma but that felt like a tease. (295 characters)

A- Pours a very hazy, very light yellow hue. Classic hefeweizen look in the glass. Lots of carbonation, with a sizeable head that lasts a good long while. Good lacing, but the most distinctive part of this beer is the classic, hazy yellow appearance.

S- Light with big wheat and spice notes are the dominant characteristics of this beer's smell. Not as spicy as other hefe's, but there is plenty to go around. Banana spice scent is also fairly strong. Clove and coriander scents, with maybe a very slight hint of pepper going on in there too.

T- Just like the scent, starting with the spices and banana flavors. The pepper flavor comes in stronger in the taste than the scent, providing a slight bite to the flavor. The spices in this are more mellowed with the light wheat flavors, giving this a more balanced flavor than most hefe's. The end of this beer lingers with hints of both wheat and spices on the tongue.

M- Light and one of the most carbonated beers I've ever had. Feel, as far as weight goes, is very light, and reminds me of an easy drinking Berliner weiss. This is definitely a beer in line with the smooth German styles, just with a little more carbonation to make you think twice.

Overall, an above average hefeweizen that is a little more balanced than most. The spices being mellowed out is a really positive aspect to me for this beer. (1,359 characters)

Cold from the tap a murky sunlight gold to a standard pint with a thinnish white head with nice retention.

Aroma of citrus, spice and a hint of banana.

Medium bodied, nice carbonation, smooth and creamy, banana and subtle clove present. Citrus and bready.

Poured a hazy blonde color, reminicent of an old girlfriend. Uniform cloudiness as per the norm with this style. A low head with minimal lacing. I detected a light yeasty aroma, clean and fresh, with notes of banana, cloves, and a touch of orange.

I absolutely love the combination of clove and nutmeg evident in this solid weissbier from UCBC. It reminds me of a similar taste in a Paulaner variety, the name of which I can't recall. I'm going to enjoy this one on hot summer evenings! (487 characters)

Pours a hazy straw gold color with a very nice white head. The head recedes quickly leaving no lacing. (4)

Aroma of cloves and bananas but with some more breads notes that provide some a nice balance to the brew. There is a slight grassy hop note in the background. Very typical but yummy. (3.5)

Flavor is straightforward Hefe. Starts of bready and grainy with some nice earthy notes. This is then followed with some nice clove notes and the yeasty notes typical of a Hefe. Pretty clean and yummy. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. (4.0)(3.5)

Good traditional Hefe with a nice fresh hop character to it.(4.5.) (609 characters)

I had this on-tap at a bar in a hotel right next to my own hotel on a recent trip to St. Louis.

A: Poured a very cloudy (unfiltered), orange creamsicle color, with an Alka-Seltzery head that made this look creamy and inviting.

S: Pow! Lots of coriander, fresh banana, with a very well balanced spice mixture.

T: Bubble gum, disciplined sweetness, and with a spice blend that was downright awesome and made me go back for more and more. The smoothness on the end was just icing on a well-baked cake!

M: Creamy as hell, and with ridiculous lacing that put most hefes on the market to shame.

O: This was one of the highlight brews of my entire summer! (653 characters)

the masses (my mates in st. louis) have been raving about this one for ages, time to dig in. this baby pours a conventional hefe looking cloudy bright yellow/orange color with a 2 inch white head that lasts the whole time. smells like a banana cream pie, with loads of fresh bananas and vanilla, some spice in there too. flavor is equally vibrant. tons of fruit and spice intermixing. its sweet but only for a second, then citrus and clove come in, vanilla in the finish. excellent character given to the beer by the yeast, its light and airy in the mouth, well carbonated to say the least, with more body than usual for the style, which absolutely makes this for me. a delicious brew, majorly sessionable. dying for my next one already. worth the hype. (753 characters)

Served this Hefeweizen on tap, at the brewery, in a Weizen glass. This brew poured a cloudy, pale golden orange color, produced a white head, featured excellent retention and lacing. The aroma of this Hefe features fruity Bavarian yeast, full of banana, clove and soft wheat. Medium in body, this traditional style Hefe featured malted wheat, banana , clove and nutmeg flavors. Very nice example of the style, great session beer- Prost! (436 characters)

A - pours a cloudy, hazy yellow without much of a head

S - smells of spices (nutmeg & clove) and banana

T - taste follows the nose well. Opens up with a nice lemon citrus flavor. This fades to a nice spiciness that contains a bit of clove and nutmeg that is intertwined with some banana flavors. It ends with a spritzy citrus flavor with some subtle grassy hops. Solid stuff.

M - creamy and full, goes down nicely.

D - very enjoyable beer here. Hits the style perfectly and deliciously. It will be tough for UC to top this hefe in their German lineup. (555 characters)

On tap at 33 in St. Louis.

A - Poured a cloudy, pale gold color with a two-finger, pillowy white head of foam. It left sudsy sheets of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled very yeasty with cracked wheat and some banana notes.

T - Good cracked wheat flavor with yeast, cloves and banana. A touch of caramel maltiness, too.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This was a really good hefewiezen. Great flavor and a great representation of the style. (500 characters)

Urban chestnut brewing company stopped for lunch at schlafly but was closed. They directed us here. Beer is cloudy with lacy white head. Bright yellow, lightly carbonated. Clove dominates aroma, with touch of citrus to balance. Tangy citrus- lemon - some clove and quite a bit of yeast. Chewy but light body, pleasantly palate cleansing and refreshing. Etoh mild. Finish with touch of green banana. (398 characters)

Pours a cloudy, yellow/maize color. 3/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of lemon, citrus hops, slight wheat, hint of tart malt, and a hint of clove. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, cereal, bread, citrus hops, lemon, and hint of clove.
