Another big thanks goes out to Mr. Mark for this one! Although there's a slight haze the tangerine orange body still manages to glimmer when backlit. When not backlit there's a rubbed bronze quality to the body. A bright white head grows to two fingers and as it settles leaves impressive lace in its wake.
I fear this beer may be a couple weeks older than I'd like. There's a bit of tea leaf hoppiness to the otherwise bright citrus. A pale malt base includes cereal grain, toast, and a touch of caramel. The hop profile consists of candied citrus peel, orange marmalade, and sweetened grapefruit. A faint whiff of booziness hits on a deep pull.
This beer may be fresher than the nose led me to believe. I get none of that tea leaf hoppiness. What I do get is a bright citric twist with added sugars, think candy and jam. I'm a big fan of the malt profile. It's pale, obviously, but has a lot of depth. Caramel, grain, and sugar cookie all play roles in the malt base. I'm a fan.
The body weighs in at moderate with a carbonation that's creates a decadent smoothness. The finish isn't immediately dry but does dry up rather quickly. The bitterness is easy up front but grows to moderate plus about halfway through the bottle and lingers. Nicely done!
STLIPA isn't mind blowing but it's all around a damn fine IPA. I'd love to try this beer a couple days after release and taste the brightness. The malt profile shows more depth than most with a juicy citric hoppiness. More of these in my future? Of course.
