We pronounce it “sta-leep-ah”; you pronounce it how you like. STLIPA, which is the acronym for St. Louis India Pale Ale, is actually a DIPA (Double or Imperial IPA, double the stats of a traditional IPA). We hope it’s a “sleepe” that you’ll include in your set of favorite DIPA’s from one of the best beer cities in the world St. Louis. Hops- Sterling, Cascade, Mt. Hood, Willamette, Chinook.

Big bottle, 16 oz or so. No indication of how old this is.
A: Amber body, no haze to it. Nice head and decent retention.
S: Malt, caramel, sugar. No hop profile. Not a good start.
T: Malt bomb. No hop bitterness at all. Very unbalanced.
M: Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is fine.
O: I'm always cautious of buying undated bottles, but this is local and from a popular beer store. But I got burned. Tired of wasting my money on this crap. Date your bottles!

Easy drinking DIPA with mild bitterness, it’s piney with a bit of caramel malt sweetness. Nothing notable here, but at the same time it’s kind of an every man’s DIPA, and there isn’t anything wrong with it either.

19.2oz can purchased at Busch Stadium 8%. Consumed from the can. It's old school lemony hops and caramel malt aroma. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with pine and vague citrus. Moderately bitter. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good and different.

Bottled on 5/10/22, so approaching 60 days old, this WCDIPA pours a beautiful golden orange color with an unfiltered look and a creamy oatmeal colored head that provides ample lacing. I’m
The nose has grapefruit and pine aromas upfront with some toffee notes as well. The grapefruit and pine are forward on the taste, along with an orange marmalade flavor that combines with the toffee flavor at the back of the palate to really elevate this beer. There’s also a bit of alcohol as the beer settles at the very back of the palate, which I didn’t expect.
The mouthfeel is very full and drying. This is true old school WCDIPA, which I really appreciate. More of this, please.

This is a long overdue review for this brew, which is one of my regular, go to beers. This is one that straddles the line between almost grapefruit flavored, which I can't stand, but with a strong enough malt backbone to make me not notice, especially after a few of them.
At 8% ABV, it's not too high, but still qualifies as a double, or Imperial IPA. It pours a nice amber color, with a good lasting head. God hoppy smell to the nose, slightly syrupy in texture which gives the impression that it's higher in alcohol than it is. Overall, an excellent example of an American style Imperial IPA.

Amber with thick head. Smells of sweet canned pineapple and citrus with other tropical fruit. The same fruit in the flavor is balanced by a good helping of malt and some soft caramel. Medium thick mouthfeel. Not very bitter for a DIPA.

Urban Chestnut deserves more of my attention. Dumped this one out from the big ol can, a fingerish of white head rose over the deep amber colored beer, which made its way down to a rim and some moderate lacing. Aroma is very subdued, mostly caramel malt sweetness and some floral, piney hops. Those hops come through more in the flavor, with some grapefruity notes joining in and just about equal the malts, which still take more of a front position than I anticipated. Still balances out in the end and creates a decent profile. Finishes dry and with a linering bitterness. Not up there with the german style UCBC brews but not bad at all.

16oz can, date stamped 010818. Copper colored ale with a rocky ivory head that holds great retention. Very muted aroma with minimal grain and soapy floral hops. Flavor is bolder with earthy floral hops providing bitterness with a caramely & grainy malt backbone; citrus and pine come through on the dry earthy finish. Overall, not really a beer I'd get again. I love everything from Urban Chestnut but this was a pass for me.
