Notes/Commercial Description:
We pronounce it “sta-leep-ah”; you pronounce it how you like. STLIPA, which is the acronym for St. Louis India Pale Ale, is actually a DIPA (Double or Imperial IPA, double the stats of a traditional IPA). We hope it’s a “sleepe” that you’ll include in your set of favorite DIPA’s from one of the best beer cities in the world St. Louis. Hops- Sterling, Cascade, Mt. Hood, Willamette, Chinook.

Appearance: Arrives with an impresssive head that perches on the hazy amber liquid; very nice lacing action

Smell: Citrusy, with tangerine and grapefruit tones; biscuity malts underneath

Taste: The citrusy elements hit the tastebuds right away, bringing both grapefruit and tangerine flavors with the biscuity malts adding some depth underneath

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice DIPA which showcases the hops without a big malt distraction

A - Poured out a hazy, orange color with a one-finger, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sticky patches of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of pine, citrus and some tropical fruits.

T - Good burnt toast maltiness with a strong bitter hop bite. Pine, tropical fruits and citrus provided a snappy bite.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a very nice beer from Urban Chestnut. It was very good.

Pours a chill hazed amber with a pinky of eggshell colored head. Never really clears, great lacing & good head retention

S: Faint pineapple, some breadyness, then grapefruit & passion fruit

T: Breadyness, faint grapefruit, pears & lemon zest up front. Grapefruit pith, pineyness, dryness, a little bit of peach & pears as this warms. Finishes with a big grapefruit pop & some pineapple & dryness & a little bit of pear

MF: Medium bodied, delicate carbonation, good balance

Could easily pass as an AIPA, very drinkable, ABV is well hidden

a good double ipa, but to me this one is a little generic, especially in the urban chestnut context, I know these cats are creative brewers. it pours like ive seen before, golden and mostly clear with slowly rising bubbles and an inch of white head slowly relaxing. good hop nose, oily and west coast oriented, but with a decent malt backbone and a touch of sweetness that seems to highlight the sweetness of the hoppy oils in both aroma and taste. bitterness is minimal until the finish, where it finally crescendos on the swallow. this reminds me of something lagunitas would make, and not their better stuff. its good, but it isn't original. it was also a little filling with a bigger body, and could probably stand a little more carbonation. not a bad beer, but not up to the standards I have in my head for urban chestnut.

The STLIPA was a decent beer from Chestnut. The beer poured a hazy orange with white head that did not leave a lace. The scent was of fresh hops with slight citrus lean. The taste was bolstered by a sweet malt base that had bitter hops present throughout. The beer reminded me more of an English style than west coast style. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall the beer is good....not the best IPA I've ever had but certainly worth a try.

Pours a golden amber with a tall thick head.

Smells of lemony citrus, flowers, fruity yeast (banana?), and a buttery character that reminds me of an ESB.

Taste is spicy floral hops, again that buttery ESB character. Slightly unusual but pretty good.

Lots of carbonation, doesn't feel like a DIPA but nice and drinkable.

Pretty good beer, not nearly as hoppy as you'd expect for a DIPA but nice and easy to drink.

6.7/10

Received as extra by Stringer_Bell- thanks! Appears a deep gold with decent clarity, frothy 2 finger head the retains nicely and leaves loads of splotchy lacing. The aroma presents light cirtusy waves of lemon pairs with grass and bread, notes of caramel come next with some crackery dryness at the end. The taste has a nice fruity hop character up front that presents some sweetness followed by a decent bit of bitterness. Finish is floral and grassy with decent finishing bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated. Overall, this IPA is sneaky, definitely drinks like a single IPA, but it packs a deceptive punch of alcohol. Overall very tasty and worth a try.

I had this on cask at Urban Chestnut.

Served in a snifter.

A: Poured a mildly chill-hazed orange color which was fairly bright overall in its disposition. There was a slight head and some mild web-like lacing.

S: I got straight up fresh orange juice infused with hops on the nose with added candi sugar.

T: This was very nice and leaned towards the fruit side of the spectrum as opposed to a hop forward one. Citrus galore and downright fresh!

M: I liked the low carbonation bill here as well as the thick, mildly syrupy texture. A slight bitter bite on the end soothed the tongue without attacking it. The sweet, fruit lingering was substantial as well as the lacing left on the glass.

O: This was excellent and I would easily have this one again. Urban Chestnut continues to impress!

A - pours a hazy orange with a 1/2 finger head with some hop particles floating in the beers

S - some spicy floral hops, citrus and a bit of onion

T - starts with some bready malts, but these are pushed aside by a barrage of grapefruit and citrus hops. A tinge of BO/onions On the finish without much bitterness. Really solid hop profile that is huge but not as dominant and to gue bruising as others in this category can be. I also thought the 8.5% abv wasn't even noticeable.

M - a little thin but goes don smoothly

D - really solid DIPA here. I am glad to see a DIPA in st Louis of this caliber. Really enjoyable and I'll definitely revisit this in the near future. Nice work Urban Chestnut!

Poured into a pint glass from the bottle.

Pours a nice hazy and cloudy orange with some copper hues. There is a nice one inch head that forms and is very sticky.

Aroma starts off with some nice fresh citrus notes. Notes of tangerines and some mild grapefruit. There is some nice slight dankness to it with some slight sweet pine. Biscuit malts are nice and bready and balances the hops very nicely.

Flavor starts with nice citrusy notes. Similar to the nose there is some slight dankness and hop juice sweetness. There is a nice bready and earthy grain note in the background. This balances the hops slightly but does not overwhelm the fact that this is a nice hoppy brew. Body is medium/light with some nice carbonation a sticky hop resin note and a nice bitter finish.

Overall UCBC is another great up and coming brewery in STL. Awesome hop profile that is dank but also refreshing, grassy and herbal. Well done.
